    The weird 1873 'safety' with the three click hammer that eliminates the original robust first click safety it a mystery to me. worse than the original and as they say.... a complex solution to a nonexistent problem.

I may shoot black powder revolvers one week and then early semi autos like the Remington 81 or Winchester 51 the next mostly revolvers and 1911's tho. have three or four shotguns but never shoot em. mostly revolvers from say 1917 to maybe 20 years back and 1911's and maybe a PPK or a Makarov or a 1907 Savage thrown in for fun. my 1873's are all Uberti clones but this new hammer safety thing is a real turn off for me.

      @@PopLeCorque My son wants me to do a youtube but it is really not me. I am good with people in person but... my 'collection' is nothing great just a little of this and a little of that. no real collector guns or.. maybe a few but... I even have a few replicas from navy arms that are now sorta collectable like a side by side percussion shotgun and an 1873 deluxe 30" with pistol grip and checkering etc.. I do have stuff like a 1917 smith in 45 acp in like 95% and a Python in say that or better condition. Mostly tho I have guns that most have not seen but are not rare or particularly valuable I will take out say a Remington 81 in .300 savage and the thing will for sure hit 2 liter sodas at 110 yards and feels like shooting a pogo stick LOL.. By the same token I will take out my newish Henry color case hardened .357 lever gun carbine cause... well... anyone can hit stuff with it and hitting stuff is fun right? If someone says that they seen a Garand in some game of whatever I say "want to shoot one?" Stuff like WW2 mausers with a the "stamp' on em. My grand daughter shot a black powder pistol (1851 Navy clone that I nickel plated) she doesn't even know how to tell her friends what it is except that it was fun and lots of smoke LOL... I am fortunate to have friends who also enjoy such guns and have their own eclectic ones.

    • @timclarke9627
      @timclarke9627 Před 6 měsíci

      The 1887 is the result of a stubborn clothing & PR Guy (O. Winchester) forcing his opinion on the world's greatest firearm designer (J. Browning). When the man who is creating the gun tells you not to build it you should listen. I and many others used them back in the day for CAS. Most of us sold them but kept our 1897 pumps. Some spent a lot of money trying to slick them up, but even they gave up for the most part. This gun is THE reason there is the 1897. Period.

      At one time, if you could get 10 or so like-minded people together to commit to an order, they would, but that stopped a long time ago.

      "99dsm1," In decades past how EXCITING and welcome it was when Winchester would do one run of .38-40 ammo each year or every other year. Sweet. We 38 WCF faithful didn't feel completely like dinosaurs.
      It's sad to see it, and to a lesser extent, .44-40, be 'left in the dust' of .38 Special, .44 Special, .45 Colt -- the 'usual suspects' at CAS events.
      Congratulations, California gun owners, for Freedom Week no. 2 -- home delivery of the restrictive, life-challenging ammo BAN just ruled illegal, unconstitutional by the very wise Judge Benitez. Meanwhile, Golden Staters MUST implore their friends and relatives who have tickets to the Super Bowl (Las Vegas this year) and are driving to game, to "P U H -- L E E Z" fill their ammunition needs shopping list before leaving Nevada for home.

      "gotsloco1810," You make Cimarron being an 'importer' sound like a dirty word. Well, look at the manufacturer of the one-and-only, true, historic 'Gun that Won the West,' the vaulted Model 1873 from Winchester. THEIR 21st Century 1873s and 94s and 1892s are manufactured by Miroku and imported from ITS factory -- in Japan -- as most shooters know.
      Looking at the bigger picture it's a downright shame that the prices and salaries of materials and labor in the U.S. make statewide production cost prohibitive. But, the good news for shooters and collectors is the factories in Japan and Italy have been making clones of western favorites for decades now. If the guns were indeed crappy, due to customers' complaints and bad p.r., Winchester would have cancelled the contract(s) with Miroku long ago.

      I wanted to follow up from your comment earlier about the firing pin. First off, it was a very astute observation on your part, but, there are no transfer bars in these guns, the reason the firing pin was not showing is because these vendors are required by most of the venues where they appear to have the guns deactivated so spectators can't throw a cartridge in and go hot at the show. I just confirmed that with the vendors at END of TRAIL. Please check back on the channel for the latest @poplecorque. Thanks for your interest.
