I carved out my first spoon with a single blade from my pocket knife. Fifty-six years ago. It was a serving spoon size. I might have it in my things. I kept it but have not seen it since I moved to my small farm 25 years ago. I was 12 when I carved a revolver with a rotating cylinder for one of my friends. One blade. I now carry a special whittling knife with six folding carving blades from "Old Timer." Any Victorinox SAK I give as a gift, excluding the Classic SD, has a saw blade as well. Remember, when you want a person to remember you, give a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. I give the Classic SD most often.
Thank you for this great story!
@FelixImmler I used to carve the likeness of the faces of my children on wild black cherry walking staves for each individual child. I grow trees and bushes just to carve, selectively pruning out the branches. I also make primitive longbows. I'm getting back into whittling with my grandchildren.
@@DavidBenner-cy4zl those are some very lucky grandkids to have a Papaw like you.
@@TonyTooTuff not really. My grandfather was the best one.
I have one of those Old Timer's, but I can't get it sharp enough to use very well. How do you sharpen yours?
Immler and Kusk are the best CZcams has to offer concerning Bushcraft!
Wowww, thank you very much for this wonderful compliment!
You improved my technique. Thank you. 63 later, when I received my first pocket knife as a Cub Scout, I learned a better way.
Hallo David. Thanks a lot for your interesting comment!
@FelixImmler for years I would just score down into the bowl and then scrape it out. Repeating until I got to the right depth. I would take sand or grit swirled around under leave or cloth to smooth it out, if needed. With whittling blades, it goes quicker. Maybe a year ago. Visiting his farm, one son showed me a spoon he had carved.
That's cool! A nice shortcut version of a spoon. I'll try it on my next camping trip! Thanks Felix
Super! Go for it! Thanks a lot for your comment!
I’m definitely going to try this out this weekend!! I love the technique and the design!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Have fun on your holiday with your family!! Be safe out there, many of us love watching your videos!!👍🏿👍🏿💯💯❤️❤️
Your comments makes me happy. Thanks you! i wish you a good time too!
Absolutely marvelous video, my friend! I really do like that and it makes it quite simple without having a spoon carving knife! Enjoy your vacation with your family!
Thank you so much my friend!! All the best
Felix
@@FelixImmler You're most welcome!
I just wanted to say i saw your comment on joe x about the adventure its and awesome knife. People just think anymore that every knife can be beaten the heck out of. Switzerland does it best and will always do it best because of quality and awesome craftsmanship and they always stated true to there hearitage for 140 years. I am 42 and have always carried victorinox so useful. This updated technology isn't what its all cracked up to be. Simply stuff always works better in my opinion. Thanks again Kyle awesome channel
Brilliant! This opens up so many opportunities when only a straight blade is available... and I imagine that other designs could be easily accomplished besides the three sided "inverted pyramid" - perhaps even something hexagonal, for example - which makes room for more artistic expression! 🙂
Thanks for this, Felix! 😊
You are right. Thanks for your interesting feedback!
Hi Felix!! I’m still binge watching your videos!! Your amazing!! I’m definitely not good at this, however, I’m sure enjoying your technique on bush crafting. I really enjoyed watching when you collaborated with way points survival on building the bridge!! It was amazing!! Thank you!!👍🏿💯❤️ from Washington state, USA
Thank you so much for this wonderful feedback!!! Greetings from Switzerland!
When they outlaw plastic spoons, we may need this.
..and i you like to craft spoons :-D
What's sad is I can see someone suggesting that at some point. They've already tried outlawing plastic straws after all.
I have been trying and trying to carve a spoon with just a knife. I'm going to give this a try. Thanks, Felix; I appreciate you.
Super... try it out!
The techniques you show on are always helping me improve my outdoor skills for the just in case scenarios. Thank you and may your family and you enjoy your vacation.
Thank you very much and i wish you a nice vacation too!
Thank you Felix. One of the things I have always wanted to try is a spoon. Now I don't have an excuse, you've made it so easy.
Thanks a lot for this compliment!
This is so much faster! I made two knives. The second one I made larger with a longer handle that I used for cooking. I looked around and there are so many things that you taught me how to make, Felix University. I like the name. Friend from Florida USA 🌴
Thank you so much for this wonderful compliment!
Love the simplicity of the technique!
Enjoy your family brother!
Thank you very much!
Very Cool Design!!! I like that it has the square-ish corners so you can easily get down into the corners of a pot when stirring or eating, *PLUS* the flat shank of the handle helps you keep the bowl of the spoon orientated flat and level!!! ❤️🤗❤️
Thanks a lot for your interesting feedback!
I may have to try this just to do it. Not to mention that carving and whittling is so relaxing.
Have a great time on holiday!
Thanks a lot..i wish you the same!
This is the first video I’ve seen on this subject .thank you Felix .
Thanks a lot for watching my video on this topic
I'm going to try this out this weekend. I hope you enjoy your vacation/holiday.
Thank you! Yes i will do that!
Thanks, That was a lot of fun. Now I have to find a list of food-safe woods that grow in West Georgia USA. Be Well and Good Journey
Thank you very much!
Wow. That looks faster than the traditional gouge, and easier to control.
I don't know if this is faster... but yes it is very controlled!
That is a good, safe and quick way of spoon carving! I look forward to trying it! Thanks again Felix for sharing your skills.🦾🌞👍
Thanks a lot for your positive feedback!
That technique produces a useful spoon with a great chance of carving success.
Thank you very much!!!!
Thanks for sharing this new technique.
I hope you and your family have a safe and enjoyable vacation. See you next month 😊
Thank you very much!!!!
Have a great vacation! This looks like a great method to make a spork for all your spoon and fork needs in one.
Thanks a lot for this wonderful tip!
Very innovative and well presented, thank you for posting. I hope you and your family enjoy your vacation.
Thanks so much. I wish you the same!!
This is fantastic, have never seen this idea before.

Ich danke dir!
Thank you Felix, for teaching us this technique for carving usable spoons. Happy holidays to you and your family!
THank you so much! I wish you the same!
Note to wood carving newbies.
Don't expect to get this right the first time !!
When you do get it right though, the satisfaction will be substantial 👍😁
Thanks for your hint!
Excellent job, Felix! Thanks for sharing. Happy trails my friend!
You gave the idea with a big knife and Felix made it with a SAK.
Very nice combination!
Hope you'll meet someday and do little projects together...
Great technique, I've seen some racing spoons similar in design, but only seen one years ago with a similar pyramid design, excellent content brother ,thanks ,God bless you and your family and happy camping 🏕 😀 😊 🙏. Lee
Thank you so much for your kind comment I wish you the same!
Wonderfully functional with less effort!
Thanks a lot for your comment!
Vielen Dank!!
Interesting! It could be fun to adapt the shape into a whole set with a fork and knife too, fantastic!
Hallo Felix,
Well, Felix, I used willow to try this. I learned it is important to stop at the stop cuts and cleanly carve each quadrant, one at a time. I got in a hurry, cut my thumb. I like the idea and the project and the end result you got. However, I was not successful. I will try again tomorrow when the bleeding stops. Ciao.
Did you saw this tip? czcams.com/video/U53au1PyR6c/video.htmlsi=RWpUn2qsde_2-g1b&t=587
You are so kind. I did see your great tip. But…I got my blade stuck when cutting the stop cut. Willow is very wet and slippery. I was holding down the wood and pulling the blade. It’s a small cut on a knuckle. I will heal. Besides, I have another thumb in my other hand. 😅. I love your videos. I have learned a lot from you and you bring cheer. Enjoy all your family time!
You do have the way to simplified complicated things. Bravo.
das ist einfach genial! It's a genius idea. So simple and so effective. I like carving spoons. sometimes very sophisticated, sometimes very simple ones. But this also gives a whole new direction for design aswell. And it helps if you need the spoon quickly. Thanks.
Thanks for your positive Feedback!
Making and positivity always makes me happy
Thank you very much for this compliment!
Greetings Felix. Excellent tutorial! Fast, easy, and ready to eat. Enjoy your holiday.
Thank you very much. I wish you the same!

The shape was in fashion number of years ago for salt spoons and condiments spoons. Interesting to see that it’s looks to be a bit. Easier to carve. Good job.
Thanks a lot for your interesting comment!
Every video, project, tips, from Felix are fantastic !
Thanks to share all these

That’s a great way to do that, have a great time on your vacation, thanks again Brian.
Thank you very much!
Felix, even when someone does it "right", I always wince a bit when I see someone baton wood w/ a folding knife because it seems like an easy way to damage the knife's pivot. (Or any knife really...My Dad always was of the opinion that, barring an emergency, axes are for chopping/splitting and knives are for cutting. I just adopted that attitude from him.) It was made worse in this video because you had already shown us you were using a SAK with a saw that could have been used to cut a notch for the wedge you used to split the wood.
Other than that, great video showing how to carve a spoon for those of us who don't have a hook knife.
Edit:
Have a wonderful holiday. :)
Another fun technique video. Spoon carving is pure fun and very relaxing. Thanks 🎸🔪
Super... thank you!
Very good video Felix, thank you for sharing it with us.
I have a suggestion for you. Can you start naming the make & model of the knife you are using in your projects at the beginning of each video? I know you use several different models of Victorinox pocket knives, it would be nice to know which model you are using for each project.
Thank you. Have a great weekend my friend.

Great video, Felix. I like the look of this new spoon. I've only made one so far and I made it too deep, so I'll give this one a go next week, when I'll be camping in France and Germany. Enjoy your holiday.

Cool spoon. Enjoy your vacation. Thanks for the video.

Just in time for me to watch on my lunch break! Love your content.
Thanks a lot for this wonderful compliment!
I met a former Russian, he came to Sweden yeeeeeeears ago. He gave me some tools to make both knife handles and taught me how to make a spoon. The he left me some tools for that too.
Yes, to have special tool is a good option too!!!
to be honest i have never seen this before. and of course i never thought about it. and of course i tried it and of course it works and is easy. and, as usual, of course i am impressed
Thanks a lot my friend!! 🤣🤣🤣
I love ideas like this, that I really should have thought of on my own, but didn't. Chip carving, but for a spoon. I really should have thought of that, since I've done both separately. The next step is to decorate it with more chip carving as you digest your meal by the fire.
Thanks a lot for your funny comment!
The play off Jorg's intro was great.
Thank you!

Interresting Teknik have you considered making the bowl square with the same teknik? I like your videos see them all you will be missed while on vacation. May you an your family have a nice vacation.
I will think about a bowl or a plate. Thank you, i wish you the same!
This guy and Joerg who makes crossbows would make one hell of a duo crossover.
Great Tip on spoon depth, but I would have done the profile before removing the pith
.
Another great video. Enjoy your holiday with your family!

Very nice design! Have a nice holiday in my country😁
Thanks a lot Franc!
Suggestion - we could mirror the triangular shape and thereby double the size of the spoon and have a shape closer to a regular spoon.
Good idea, I see no reason that the spoon bowl shape could be any shape you and size you decide to use. 👍
Thanks a lot for your interesting thought!
Well done!! Thanks for showing us the method… and it’s a good one 👍👍
Great video!!
Thank you very much!
great technique great video, thank you Felix 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hi Felix! I like the technique and look forward to trying it. Enjoy your holiday!
Thank you very much!
Masterful, masterpiece. I will give this a go.
That ma kes me happy. Good luck!
Have a great holiday! :)
Thank you very much!!
I really like the look of this technique! I think if you just turned the spoon head around and made the handle on the blunt and not pointy side. It might have a little bit more utility. But I think it will have less durability.
Have a great vacation. If I'm correct, I have heard you go to the Netherlands. If so, enjoy my little country.
This is great, I can't wait to try it later after I escape the shackles of work.
Good luck Colin!!
This is, essentially, a chip carving technique, just enlarged to spoon size. Nice.
I Gabe a Swiss soldiers blade with a serrated front, many don't like it cos it's "harder to sharpen" apparently, but I find it's like a sharp little saw with a flat edge at the back for shaving cuts, and if I angle the tip properly, I can carve out curves with the serrations and make a spoon
Realy cool! Like that shrink pot this will be a relaxing project! And a fast one at at hat!
Danke für Deinen Kommentar!
Enjoy your holiday and thanks for the spoon tip.
Thanks a lot for watching my video!
