Chasing them off after 1st Punic war wont only made the senate lose people's support, but also made them loss the rich Iberian peninsula.

It probably would have been better for Hannibal to unite with the Boi in northern Italy and first clear out all Roman resistance in the area. Once done, it would have been too late to march on Rome but at least plans and logistics could have been organized prior to an assault on Rome in the next campaign season. By then, it would have been a lot easier to surround Rome and have your Northern supply lines be secured.

    Great Video!
I learned two things. Number one, Rome should stay away from forests. Number two. Hannibal has a history of getting the short end of the stick as far as his government is concerned.

I'm really interested in how this series will progress. Because there is such a strange tendency to look at the 2nd punic war - and Hannibal in particular - as being something that happened only in 218-216 and then there was just a massive void until the battle of Zama in 205. And I would love to know more, but so much of the focus is just on the beginning and end.

"Africanus: el hijo del cónsul" by
      Santiago Posteguillo
