My mom was a drug addict and for the longest time I didnt understand. In 22 i developed prescription drug addiction(benzos) and I started to understand her. Recently ive watched this movie and read the book and my first thought went to her(she was 16 when the movie came out,) and i immedistely called her if she ever saw and or read Trainspotting. She did both. I get her now completely.
Danny Boyle is so on point with his descriptions of dreams and hallucinations. I’ve had morphine (basically legalised heroin) and it does give you a lovely sinky feeling
Morphine is delicious. Five minutes you feel the warmth in your stomach, and it expands. Then your head feels warm, and you retreat into yourself in comfort and love. The problem is it is so good you want it again and again. I'm four months clean as of Jan 2024.

Obviously for personal reasons and with this film and only one other film that's also based on a biography from his span growing up in New York Brooklyn 1979,as in Irv. Welsh's book Trainspotting, The film is and will forever be bloody fantastic with the excellent supremely dark humor, thrown in an around Trainspotting and peppered with true events that of course, got left out, or edited because of the subject material but always a great film and one of the greatest junkie true event based on a an better book.. However briefly mentioned before about the most in your face true reality of a very similar group of mates in Brooklyn, there is so very little dark humour in the book and film its wholey accuracy about similar hardcore addicts depicting how, why, when's, to the brutal and very tragic true end of fuck who, how, why, and whatever etc.., which is way too close to my 25 year dirty habit on 3 different continents, and nearly 3 decades of being a smackhead, who still thinks about it, but in my opinion top 3 junkie films, that are hard hotting and darkly humoured are- #1 Requiem for a dream (if u can stomach the truest and grimiest film from the book.. Same title..from the late Author Hubert Selby Jr., for film n book. #2 Christian F. For we are the children of Vanderhoof Station - Another deeply true fact based novel from herself growing up addicted to smack at 13 and turns to prostitution in early eighties East Berlin. Focused in the transcending and controversial political times and the severe destitution of the abandoned and lost teens of and around Vanderhoof Street Station.., Book and very controversial film same name. #3 TRAINSPOTTING great account based around the authors life and friends with deep rooted dark humour and excellent portrayal of very accurate addict life X
i feel like so many people overlook Trainspotting and fail to see the importance of it ... how the treatment towards drug users in hospitals was so appalling and how it was normalised to have so many people into emergency units for overdose
papa mary Treatment to drug users is fucking horrible. For the last week I've been going around hospitals asking for help, and the best I can hope is a bed in two or three months. I' m fucking going to die two or three thousand times untill then.
Wonder what percentage of patients in critical care are there as a result of lifestyle - diet, lack of exercise, overweight, poor driving, alcohol and tobacco etc. Trust this pisses her off as well.
@Magpie the term you should be using is “Addicts” not “druggies”. Easy for you to say when you’re not the one who’s battling a drug addiction. Also, don’t think that all drug addicts are portrayed like they are here in this movie. Some are lonely, neglected and depressed human beings and drugs is their coping mechanism. How can they possibly avoid the only thing that gives them comfort. They need support and help they do not need people that get “pissed off” at them.
