      TSMC won't change much in term of battery. This year Samsung nm node is on pair with tsmc one and tensor is still bad (exynos 2400 is better than tensor g4 and A17). Pixel 7 success

    Currently on the Pixel 6 Pro and it`s a tough choice. I will make the choice based on pre-order deal + trade in value for my current phone. If I get down to 600-700€ then I´ll probably upgrade and maybe trade in for the Pixel 10 next year if it´s really such a huge difference switching the manufacturing from Samsung to TSMC.

    I have a Pixel 8 Pro that I like a lot. The only reason I'd have for upgrading to a Pixel 9 would be design. I don't believe performance will be drastically different from the 8 series. Though the processor may have some minor tweaks and efficiencies.

    Huge reason for thermal problems in current tensor cpus is lack of vapor chamber. While I'm waiting for the Pixel 10 (owning 8 pro) I hope they finally add it to the 9. Without it the G5 won't be such huge upgrade and will still have thermal issues.

    I have a Pixel 7 Pro and will likely upgrade to the 9...not so much because of the chipset but because usually it financially makes more sense to upgrade every two years vs three years. You get more money from trade in or selling a two year old phone vs a three year old phone.
    My 7 Pro is still running fairly well and the battery still holds up but the depreciation does play a factor, unless I plan to keep the phone like five years which I've never owned a phone more than three years. Which is when I realized it makes more sense to trade in after two years.

    So considering that Google will have 2 plus years to work on the G5 I'm hoping they will offer something that's really good. The g4 seems like an after thought since they weren't able to secure the chips for the Pixel 9 from tsmc. I have a 6 and it's starting to show it's a age. I was really hoping the 9 would have a 3nm chip. I might go back to Samsung for a couple of years and get the s25. I really wanted a foldable but I wanted a future proof chip and the g4 is not future proof.

    • @alegzzis
      @alegzzis Před 3 dny

      TSMC won't change much, this year Samsung nm node is on pair with tsmc one and tensor is still bad (exynos 2400 is better than tensor g4 and A17). Therefore, changing to TSMC will not do anything (because Google simply does not know how to design good chips) and the chips themselves will probably just be much more expensive, but no other change.

    There hasn't really been a good reason to wait a whole year for a next generation of technology since like 2018, probably earlier than that. Get a phone when you need it.
    That being said, as good as the move to TSMC is going to be, the 2nd generation on TSMC will probably be the one to wait for if you were going to wait for a better chip. Give them a year to learn Tensor and how to best manufacture it.

    So I have a theory on this TSMC chip. From what I read they're responsible for mostly apple chips, and that's supposed to be a big great thing because apple has powerful chips. But I make the argument that those chips really aren't that powerful and IOS is just (as always) incredibly optimized. From my understanding people are complaining about lackluster gaming performance for the new AAA ports to the app store. Meanwhile Samsung phones are running Window 10 emulators and downloading PC games that are running incredibly well especially considering the lack of optimization and the strain of running it through an emulator. Samsung chips know android which is by nature an unoptimized experience due to it being open source. I have a feeling these TSMC chips are not going to do well for quite some time which is why I think I'll upgrade to the Pixel 9.
