  • Brian and Prof. Ken Hammond discuss U.S.-China relations, China’s role in Africa and the new Cold War. In a stunning display of hypocrisy, western powers are decrying China for alleged “colonialism” in Africa. What is the true nature of China’s economic and diplomatic engagement with the continent, and how does the corporate media try to twist reality? Prof. Hammond explains the vital historical context to understand the China-Africa relationship, and how the United States has Africa in the crosshairs as it pursues its new Cold War.

China has traded with my country Malaysia for two thousand years. In those years, they were the world’s biggest powers most of the time. Never once they sent troops to take our land. In 1511 the Portuguese came, in 1642 the Dutch came lm, in 1786 the British came, we were colonised by each. Today China is still our most important trade partner, and our relationship has always been win-win. There are dispute between us in the South China Sea, but we always resort to dialogue and corporation to resolve our differences, as we believe that corporation between the two countries brings much more on the table than the piece of dispute that history left behind. The water in South China Sea involves many countries, between China-Malaysia, Malaysia-Philippines, Vietnam-Philippines, Vietnam-China, Brunei-Philippines, but Western media always portray the dispute as “China vs others”, which is just to smear China. It’s frustrating that the UK, the USA and Australia keep stirring tension here. British and American cargo ships are welcome to the South China Sea, but I hope the Royal British Navy and the US Navy battleships leave the South China Sea.

Former Singaporean diplomat, Kishore Mahbubani, said that if Europe really care about its own national interest, then Europe should work with China on Africa, instead of helping the US to attack Chinese investment in Africa. Because in the future, Africa population will be 10 times Europe, and if they can't find jobs in Africa, they will go to Europe, legally or illegally. The US doesn't have to worry about this cause of geography. Only economic development will prevent that bleak future for Africans, and Africa need investments, especially in infrastructure, to develop their economy.

I am from Hong Kong and I can tell you that since the introduction of the National Security Law in HK in the middle of 2020, it is much more peaceful now. What the western media reported about freedom, democracy being ripped off from HK citizens are all BS.
In 2019 before the National Security Law was introduced, there were serioius riots every weekend, and later almost every day in every district. In the beginning, we avoided going out on weekends just in case we got caught in one of those deadly riots. The situation became worse and the rioters started to cause chaos at airports, Metro stations, blocking major expressways, tunnels, destroying traffic lights, elevators, basically just destroying the city and stopping normal people from going to work, going to school, going for entertainment, even going to hospitals.
Can you imagine that HK, well-known for night life, with bars, shops, restaurants, entertainment facilities opening till midnight were all of a sudden coming to a halt? All major transportation systems would stop at 8pm, people rushing back to home right after work, no more night entertainments, shops, theaters, malls, restaurants, everything was closed before 8pm. Every night there were roits everywhere, setting out fires, smashinig windows, setting roadblocks, digging out bricks from the road, attacking police stations, attacking people with opposite opinion.
Basiically we started our "lock-down" 6 months before the COVID19 outbreak. For what? They will tell you that they are fighting for the democracy, for the freedom for HK people. Huh? I mean, I didn't even have the freedom to go for shopping, for gatherings, for movies, and I dare not express my opinion publicly, in case I wiill be attacked in the street corner by those rioters. Isn't this sarcastic?

We could add that the current Sino-African Cooperation was at the inviataion of Africans, put together in 2003-04 by Presidents Kibaki and Mbeki.
Before that, there was a long, friendly Sino-African relationship
From about 200 BC to 1400 AD, Sino-East African trade flourished.
The main product was manganese steel processed by East African industrialists who then manufactured artifacts for export to China and India. Neither of the partners, for over 1600 years, thought of colonizing the other and that behavior has not changed.
This trade was eventually disrupted by the Arabs who colonized much of the East African coast. In quick succession, the Portuguese, Germans and British replaced the Arabs and one another as enslavers and colonizers, taking away our land and resources including human…basically taking away everything.
There’s no reason to suppose any of these parties - Africans, Chinese, Arabs and Euro-Americans - have changed their Diopian civilizational traits
And Africans remember well that though a poor country in the 50’s to the 70’s, China trained and armed African independence armies from Algeria in the 50’s to South Africa in the 90’s.
In return, Africans with their numerous UN votes, voted China into membership not only of the UN and its affiliate bodies, but into the Security Council where China has repeatedly used her veto on behalf of Africans until we can get our own.
As China became richer and technologically more advanced, African countries turned towards it for trade on terms much better than those offered by the neo-colonial west:
.1 The Chinese companies build infrastructure in Africa at upto 30 % cheaper than any others
.2 Each project has its specific loan which it (the project) is to pay back according to its feasibility study.
.3 Unlike western governments, the Chinese government does not tell African people to do with regard to governance and even personal behavior such as how many children to have and sexual inclination to have.
.4 The dealings are centered on trade not aid. The trade is based barter- raw materials exchanged with infrastructure - which means that the US $ is not used, which hurts the US economy because:
o The US earns a commission whenever the US $ is used in trade between third countries, say, Kenya and Ethiopia.
o The US is able to use the US $ to export its economic inflation to other countries.
o It costs US $ 0.04 to print US $ 100, which allows the US to buy 1 ¼ barrels of crude oil, 2.5 grams of gold, 100 kg coffee at US $ 0.04 instead of US $ 100. The rest of the world has to buy the US $ because its use is enforced by the US military from its 800 global bases
o This enforcing US military, which costs about US $ 800 billion annually, about 10 times the next 10 countries, including Russia and China, is funded by simply printing more US $ are printed US $ 0.0004 per US $. This is a mafia-like protection racket against the protector.

---------------------------As a Chinese, do you envy American history and culture? Does China's 5000 history and rich culture make you feel inferior? how sad

Poverty alleviation starts with access, its that simple. Thats how CPC eliminated absolute poverty at home and thats how they plan to do it in Africa. Theres no need for complicated IMF lending structure or US NGO’s donation with ties to military industrial complex. Just ram infrastructure down their throat and watch the people bring themselves out of poverty.

I’m a month late in hearing this valuable and informative program. This program is timeless. Prof Hammond’s knowledge and insight into the history of China and its relationship with the Western countries is impressive and inspiring. I feel like I’ve just attended a class from him. I should demand continuing education credits. Brian B should be on a panel himself with his in-depth political information. Hope you’ll do another program soon

BRI is build for the future because when green transportation, EV and Hi_Speed rail and BRI will come into full fruition. This will cut fossil fuel accordingly in connectivity between countries. any flight up to 5 hours flight can be replace by Hi Speed rail, some fossil fuel cargo shipping can be replaced by Hi Speed rail and all fossil fuel transportation can be replaced with EV. With these in mind majority of the COP26 could be fulfilled.
