Gaming's Forgotten Football Rivalry | NFL Gameday vs Madden | NFL 2K vs Madden

- I may not play football games, but even I find the good old NFL Gameday vs Madden feud to be interesting. You've gotta love a good old fashioned Football rivalry. Once the Rivalry between Gameday and Madden ended after the terribly Gameday 2001 on the PS2, Madden found itself competing directly against NFL 2K on the same consoles. Unfortunately, EA cheated to win, and we have been robbed of seeing epic football game rivalries since. Fun times for Sports gamers though.
Note: This footage was taken off a PS2 running the games, and I used the Hyperkin PS1/PS2 HDTV cable to upscale. The early madden games have tons of visual glitches if you use a PS3 to upscale, so I opted to used the PS2 for this video.

What a time when sport game rivalries was fun Gameday madden and 2k I had them all then ea got lazy and got the nfl license to be the only company to make nfl sim games instead of rising to the occasion I believe nfl 2k would’ve surpassed madden just like nba 2k surpassed nba live

So, EA Sports at one point, had the people that make/made 2K, Visual Concepts in-house to create Madden and didn't stick with them? Someone loved Coca-Cola bc they should've stuck with them
The PS2 Gameday titles felt more like it was done on a much smaller budget compared to their PS1 counterparts, mainly due to 989 rushing development. (6:55)

If you've got the hardware, you can probably still find your favorite GameDay for cheap nowadays. I had to buy all these games for this video, and the prices weren't too bad for the individual games

Also, Amazon has every retro game and system as well. I collected every gameday on ps2. 01 to 04, and will never trade them in again lol
Gameday was much better than madden until about the 2000 series. The AI was better and gameday innovated more with their on field player actions and had a rudimentary franchise mode first. Their issue was they rarely updated the playbooks. Not only did the formations and plays never change, the money plays never changed. Deep outs from shotgun was 25yds-TD every single year. Run mechanics always favored sweeps and off tackle strongly. Madden continued to improve. Gameday didnt.
At the time, I owned a copy of NFL Gameday 99. I remember trying to play it for awhile but I just couldn't get into it. I thought it wasn't all that interesting and found myself going back to games like Tekken 3 and Crash 2. I was never a football guy or that big of a sports fan in general. In terms of sports games, unless it was something very arcadey like NBA Hangtime, I had no interest in playing it. I also tried to play March Madness 99 also but with the same result. I think it was at that moment it solidified that I only like over the top arcade sports games.
The only traditional sports games I ever found myself being able to play were the 2K games, like NFL2k1, and NBA 2K, because they just had a smooth playability to them that reminded me of an arcadey sports game. Other than that, NBA Jam, and NFL Blitz style games were the only sports games I liked to play.

Gameday 99 through 2001 had better player models while Madden’s were way too big and clunky like a lineman playing all positions
This era was one of a kind for sports games even qb club was around but it never improved like these
QB club was the pretty graphical showcase for the N64, while Madden played way better. Gameday and Madden pushing each other to be better, and then 2K and Madden pushing each other to be better. Probably the best time to be a sports gamer when it came to new innovations in gameplay and new features.

You got a better mic
I got a better mic in 2017, but I only recently learned how to edit the voice over in Audacity to make it sound louder and clearer. Stuff I should have known like 10 years ago. Lol. Plus, I've kept my mouth closer to my mic so I don't have to yell into the mic. I'm always trying to learn, adapt, and improve.
Gameday 98 was the sh*t !!! I hated Madden
In the little I played of it for this review, I really liked how Gameday 98 played. It's still fun to this day, and the embarrassment they gave to Madden that year is still epic.
@@DookieCakes Gameday 98 was the best game ever, madden made a comeback with the ps2 and marshall faulk on cover then after that it was OVERRR NFL 2K and NBA 2k on dreamcast TOOK EVERYTHING OVER !!

i wanted to like this sport, but they stop the ball all the time, so is boring to me.

Football is fun if you're playing 2 hand touch in a schoolyard, but I've rarely ever watched the sport. It's an incredibly complex sport to learn about. half the fans don't even understand it.
