As a FPV professional the main step up I see in the Hero 12 is the addition of a "Log" feature for the colours, that is a major upgrade to the quality of footage that can be shot with it.
I love my Hero 12, on the FPV drone HDR gives a really nice look but GP-Log is a mess, they locked the EV at -2 for some weird reason and the iso can only go up to 400 and its really saturated for a proper log profile, and the noice reduction is out of control but if i use Gopro Labs Color Profil Flat with the settings LOGB=400 NR01=1 WIDE=1 BITR=200 i get really really good results mutch better than "GP-Log"
How would i ger to the labs settings for my gp12? And a little tip for the log thing, download a log profile upload it do davinci resolve and then use it on your footage. That makes it to where its gradeable

I just bought a hero 11 mini for a good price as a step up from a RunCam 5. I’m excited to see how it performs. Their is a difference in weight, but from my experience a little weight is good for freestyle.
I got one used last night for cheaper than I've been buying hero8 lol... The weight is annoying, I wish it had removable batt. The GP12 is a step down in features and a step up in overheats and unreliability lol
New cam definitely looks nice, but session 5 is GOAT
action 2 is a solid replacement for the session 5, although I haven't big crashes with it yet

I have one action cam and that's a Session 5 I bought used 4 years ago that still hasn't been used in the field. I just use DVR footage for evaluating my flights. I don't post to Social Media so I'm not concerned with how it looks. My flying has gotten way better but I know if I thrash that session 5, I may not be able to find another used one in good condition at a decent price and I don't feel like hauling the weight of a heavier model. Plus I'm not looking to spend the additional money for something newer.
Mmmm Old school Detroit. Good location choice. I'm on 9's myself and one 6 and pretty happy but, if it was in the budget yeah the quality of the HDR seems to be worth the extra. I like my quads heavy as well. Were at just sub 900g and working on lightening a bit. Going from a Hero 6 to a 9 then a 1300 6s pack makes it chunky. I've pulled the GoPro battery and saved myself some weight along with a few other lightening choices and brought it down about 60 or so grams maybe more and went back to my favorite prop the HQ V2S from the J40 on my heavier builds but, will still run J40's on lighter ones.

Does the gopro hero 11 mount work with the hero 12?
The mini 11 has gone on sale several times for $200 that includes a 1 year subscription to GoPro s website. With the labs firmware you can save multiple settings for different situations and change them in an instant with a QR code. I'm gonna grab another next time there is a sale.
There is a reason IMO have you heard about them not working and just heating up to 100 degrees till the battery is dead? I had two of them do that so I just gave up on the mini in the end. Liked it but if I cant use it at all its quite worthless haha
@@jamesbond-pr5jlEven using the labs firmware? I haven't had it happen personally, but have read that using labs at least keeps it from randomly shutting down. That really sucks though, and I'd be pissed if I bought two and they both did this.
@@kurtzFPV Unfortunately don't know what labs is... I did the gopro update like it said on the second one as it was NEW NEW other one was open box so I never did that, but the old one also worked for 5-20 tries what ever I had in a month and a half. Then the NEW NEW one that I did the updates with lasted one or two runs and was just a hot plate like the first one in days.

@@jamesbond-pr5jl yea. That's no good and I don't blame you for being done with them. GoPro labs is alternative firmware that GoPro makes available to allow the use of more features in the camera. I have read several people say that installing it instead of the normal firmware helped solve their overheating or freezing problems with the mini 11.
I am flying 3 5inch quads and the Hero 9 Black. I crashed it several times and often it got smashed and killed but without any visual damage. It just stopped working. Glad to have insurance for that.
I still rock the session 4 on my bashers! LOL......and I use a Hero 9 Black for my "fancy stuff". I'd like to upgrade but until these fellas fail it's not worth the investment at the time. Great video guys!! Thank you for the review!!!!!!!!!!!

session 5 or something similar in size and weight is the winner for me unless you are doing work where the best quality is a must.

IMHO opinion There’s almost no reason to shoot LOG or HDR at night. LOG and HDR are to have maximum dynamic range but when you’re flying in dark environments you’re already lacking dynamic range in general.
I too like the weight.
Perhaps im just inknowingly still giving a small bit of throttle when i want to be falling down but i jus feel like the extra weight helps me lose altitude as fast as i want to without actually looking and fkying downwards.
Then again i also recognize that heavy things fall the same speed as light things so im not even sure why i feel this way about extrs weight 😅
they only fall the same speed in vacuum, you are not flying in vacuum indeed :D
@@nonicknamenoname3450 my understanding is that wind resistance/aerodynamics would be the only real factor but that doesn't change much generally.
I fly the hero 11 mini, the weight of the hero 12 isn’t worth it to me, I’m with let’s fly RC if the had a mini 12 then maybe but the price on the mini 11 is really decent and I’ve been flying the same 2 for about 8 months now and haven’t had an issue with either besides cracking my camera butter filters.
IL stick to my 5 and 9 they both fit in were I need them
The only thing the hero 12 hasn't got is GPS telemetry but other than that it's awesome flying.
I HAD a 11 mini I actually had TWO of them and they did not turn on but would get to 100 degrees and do nothing loved for the 5 or so times i Used it but after my second one did it on the first run and then was as I said unusable what so ever I had no choice but to return it for good.

Its super odd that the weights between 11 and 12 are the same... looks like gopro more than likely just disabled the GPS not removed it.
Its a shame GoPor really shysted the customers on these 12's, no case and no GPS, but hey you get blue speckles 😵💫

Hero-11 Mini is 10-bit color. Hero 9 is not. Huge difference! Massive jump up in IQ in the Hero-9 to Hero-12.

The Hero 11 mini is complete garbage. One quit all by itself, the second had a small crash and quit, my brothers stopped for no reason and our friend broke his. I'm just saying they pushed to hard on releasing it so it's durability is compromised lol. I don't think I will ever buy a gopro for fpv except naked gopros with waterproof cases lol. The case takes the blunt force and leavs the camera all good
