Could you potentially run these instead of the heavy lead batteries in an old e200? The weight savings would be awesome but I worry about the them heating up.
You could but you will need to take them out every time you need to charge them up.

Yep! Look in Craigslist or Facebook market place and you will find some for dirt cheap! They may not be in working condition because the batteries died out and have flat tires. Change out the batts and the tubing and do some cleaning and you got a cheap electric scooter :) Get some batteries like the socokins 6s high capacity ones and you could ride for quite a while :)
Does the moped become not functional when the voltage goes into the sub lead range? Lead acid batteries are designed to go between 13v and 12v, creating a voltage range of 24 to 26 volts. A 6s lithium battery goes between about 25.4 and a low of 18. Does the 24v motor stop working early or is it able to drive all the way down to 18v
With any Lipo batts, taking it below 3.7volts per cell isn’t healthy so I have never tried to take it down to 18volts
@RCEscape 3.7v is the nominal voltage! Lipos are safe til like 3.2v and dont chemically neutralise til 2.5v... so you definitely have wayyyy more battery capacity than you are utilizing. What voltage do you usually run it down to? By your logic of 3.7v minimum i would think you stop somewhere around 22v. This is still lower than the pocket mod was ever engineered to drive on. Did it feel sluggish or slow when you drove? Super curious

You can take it below 3.7volts but you will notice the sluggishness but you will also notice your battery isn’t the same after recharging so my advice, don’t go below 3.7volts. Lithium ion batteries can handle the low discharge better but lithium polymers can’t.
@RCEscape interasting to hear the motor is sluggish, makes me rethink how im going to do my conversion. I may try to use a voltage regulator to give the motor the highest possible voltage at all times and use a charge indicator to see the battery percentage. Id just hate to lose alot of efficiency to the regulator... also it makes me sad to think that to save a lithium battery, you have to cut out more than half of its capacity by cutting off at the nominal voltage... it makes the lithium battery marketing feel a bit disingenuous especially when they say things like you should normally cut off at 2.7v. It also makes you think about the advertised capacity vs actual capacity

When we go out to the park, everyone asks what these are:) when I tell them what they are and how much they costed me, they want one. I was going to DIY our bicycles into e bikes but this way is so much less expensive.

The weight of the original batts don’t make much of a difference besides I get twice the range.
I wonder how long they would last if someone ran them in series, Be alot faster, but probably burn out that shitty stock motor almost immediately..
