    LOL @ the few haters in the comments. The truck was built on a serious budget out of almost strictly salvage parts. It was never meant to be a "restoration" it was simply a shop wrecker. Yes the engine is dirty. No it wasn't rebuilt. Commenters never cease to amaze me at their willful ignorance on any subject but y'all just go ahead and keep hating. Let's see what you built? =)

      I really love this build. I've been dreaming up and planning a car hauler ramp bed truck. I'm familiar with square bodies so I've been looking at 1 ton frames, p30 frames, and these 3500HD frames. That led me here. I really like this frame. I like the beef, front and rear suspension, axles, 4 big disc, and 19.5"s. I would swap in my own drivetrain and an older body I've got in mind. Although your body is black is 😍.
      Next question is can I regear the diff to something around 3.73 or 3.42? If not, then I might go 14 bolt or AAM but then I've got mismatched wheel patterns.
      I wonder if I can put these 3500HD spindles onto a square body.
      The research continues.
      Very very nice truck you built. I adore this in black.

      I did repo for almost 10 years. This Dynamic is my favorite bed for repo. I'm a damn surgeon with that bed. I love the rearward visibility immensely. It has a few small drawbacks..... (I would repo about 10 cars per 8 hour shift usually 6 days a week, so I used it pretty hard, our whole crew ran these hard.) They are great but with this much use and abuse.... the center pivot wears out too fast or breaks compared to other tow beds. The hoses burst pretty often. The hoses can tear but that's with any autoloader setup. If you're hooking up something and its next to the curb or half on the curb or anything that forces one claw not to close... I've burst hoses doing that or snapped the bolt the cylinder attaches to. That bolt was my #1 failure.. I carried extras always. In a jam sacrifice a short screwdriver in there, a long one will catch on the car and bend. The bolt brakes on one side mostly, I forget which side, because the cylinder pushes on it directly where the threads start. On the other side it pushes on the shank part of the bolt and it rarely fails there. When the L arm bend from being overloaded you can flip them onto the other side and they'll bend back eventually. Dynamic has updated L arms and pivots. The cylinder that lifts is kinda weak for big trucks but you can rev the engine a bit to help. Since you can't adjust the L arms like the old manual stuff... if you have a flat on the towed vehicle, you can use the spacer adapter thing but what I usually did on flats or missing wheels is throw a 4x4 across the lift and cradle the suspension on it just be careful it can shift and fall off. If you tow at night get good lighting but not so bright that drivers will rearend you while you're hooking up. I liked to paint the cross bar tips white so I can see them at night. If you tow something heavy those L arms like to spread, the strap moves, and it all gets loose.... so I would hit the jaw closed once in a while on a bump.
      So yeah she has issues but it's still a super great bed.

  • @terryhall8542
    @terryhall8542 Před 3 lety

    I’m curious about the fabrication of the wrecker. The initial build was based on an early illusion type hydraulic Chevron Rebel Bandit and a Dynamic design but ultimately what the build ended up with was a refurbished Dynamic with a fold up wheel lift. What happened with the first wheel lift that was shown? I noticed the wheel grids did not extend simultaneously. Was there not a proportioning valve? Was this a failed attempt and the second wrecker an afterthought?
    What was the total cost of this build vs purchasing a new truck and wrecker from a distributor who builds them new?

    • @michaelamundson1152
      @michaelamundson1152 Před 3 lety +1

      Good questions! May not be the most cost effective build, but cool none the less. I'd drive it.

    • @someotherplace
      @someotherplace Před 3 lety +1

      First unit was an ancient Sneeker lift that had been hacked with JerrDan spoon ends. It was what was available. Later the white wrecker seen late in the video suffered its final engine failure (6.5td) so the Dynamic bed was swapped from it

    • @MRJEB25
      @MRJEB25 Před 6 lety

      Manual windows is actually better, less likely to break and WAY cheaper to fix! My 01 Silverado has manual everything, and that's why I got it.

    • @taylorh3930
      @taylorh3930 Před 6 lety

      +MRJEB25 Hell no manual windows suck. I've never had a problem with my power windows and my one truck is a 94 Chevy. The more options the better and the more desirable the truck is. There's nothing desirable about a bottom of the line truck you could give me a bottom of the line truck if it was free. No one want them either when it comes time to sell I see plenty of bottom of the line trucks sit on Kijiji for months sometimes years cause they are bottom line trucks.

    • @MRJEB25
      @MRJEB25 Před 6 lety

      Well friendo, you know what they say about opinions and assholes. Just a personal preference I guess, especially for a truck that actually works for a living, not one that just drives me places.

    • @taylorh3930
      @taylorh3930 Před 6 lety

      +MRJEB25 I drove tow truck for a bit believe me you need power windows it's to much of a pain to reach over to roll down windows manually and talk to a customer. And the more options in the truck the better a customer that's broke down doesn't want to ride in some bottom line truck im sure they would like to be comfortable. We had one tow truck ( for very long ) that didn't even have air conditioning. It was painful to run in the summer and you could tell the customers were pissed off having to ride in such a hot cab on top of there bad day already. Needless to say we ripped the wrecker off the truck and tossed the truck in the parts row.
