Songbird Celebrates Her Second Mother's Day

- After foaling a filly by Arrogate in 2019, Songbird now has another beautiful filly by Tapit. Katie Ritz checks in with the superstar mare at Timber Town Farm, just in time for Mother's Day.
Of all the jaw-dropping feats that a Thoroughbred is able to accomplish, perhaps nothing is quite as miraculous as watching a fierce, powerful racehorse transform to fill the role of motherhood.
Wayne Sweezey, who owns and operates Timber Town Stables alongside his wife Cathy, has watched this dramatic role change hundreds of times. But one mare on his farm in particular has excelled above and beyond both on the track and with a foal by her side.
She won 13 of her 15 starts, never finishing worse than second, and took nine Grade I victories over her three-year career. She retired with over $4.6 million in earnings as a two-time Eclipse Award winner and Breeders’ Cup heroine and for $9.5 million at Fasig-Tipton November in 2017.

So happy to hear that Mike wanted to ride her and happier, very much so, to hear that her sire was my 2nd favorite racer, ever, being Arrogate! My forever favorite is/was the big red one from Claiborne! Since that was 2 yrs ago, I'd really like to know the beauty's name. Arro had a filly who raced this year in the Breeders Cup, but Mike Smith wasn't the jockey, so I doubt that was her. He was the jockey for both, Songbird and Arrogate! I'd love to know her name, though! Such gifted parents makes her extra special! I hope she'll be well taken care of! I love her already, those long beautiful legs! I pray she's treated well! ❤Just would like to know her name!💕

@@peggypapczun2906 and she broke two sesamoids and broke her neck when she fell and they put her down about 3 months ago Todd Pletcher doesn't know much about feet evidently kind of like his old boss Lucas!
Pletcher put her down three months ago before she ever started her last work

@Maynard Runkle Yes, out of Great Lady M. You forgot to mention Terlingua whose mother was a Graded Stakes winner. All of these offspring you mentioned had dams that were just as (or more)important to their breeding as Secretariat.

You should do your research before commenting such dumb things, Songbird was bought in November of 2017, and she was bred in February of 2018. She had a rest before being bred, it wasn't "days after" being bought.
