An Unexpected Storybook Ending for Midnight Bisou

- Although a minor injury prevented Midnight Bisou from making a final appearance at the Breeders' Cup this year, Jeff Bloom has found peace in remembering the unforgettable career of the Bloom Racing color-bearer as the highest-earning dirt mare of all time.
Midnight Bisou wrapped up her 3-year-old season with two more graded victories, never finishing out of the money in her nine starts. But she upped her game further at four, finishing first in seven of eight starts and adding a trio of Grade I wins, highlighted by one of the most heart-pounding stretch battles of the year in the GI Personal Ensign S. with Elate (Medaglia d’Oro).
After connections made the decision to race one more season, scratching her from the 2019 Fasig-Tipton November Sale on the morning of the GI Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff, the newly-crowned Eclipse winner crossed the globe to make her 5-year-old debut this year in the $20-million Saudi Cup, where she closed to finish an ultra-game second behind fellow champion Maximum Security (New Year’s Day).

I was lucky enough to see her at Santa Anita 3 times and every time that I guess bay more almost black coat stood out in the paddock . One of my all time favorites .

As always, I was thrilled to hear the conversations covering what I had been following since your last show. I have always liked Skinner; I see him as a herd fellow being happy to play the role of a team player. I hope the white horse makes it to the Derby. Agree that the horse with the perfect trip still has to take advantage of the trip. And, I had thought I needed to check the Equinox pedigree. Now I don’t.
Mr. Beckmann was so adept at dealing with the overseas training experiences. I can’t imagine being able to deal with the Saudi culture as a woman. Best to Honor Marie and to Mr. Beckman’s stable.

After I watched the 60 minutes segment, I left my opinion (no surprise) of disappointment: Not long enough, not balanced enough, and “late to the show.”

It was an exciting few years to have Bisou, Elate, Monomoy Girl, Abel Tasmin and Wonder Gadot on the track. Those races were fun no matter the outcome. I had the pleasure of seeing the Cotillion at Parx. On to new heights!

I am very sorry that she is not running this year, it was an honor to watch her. But to say you knew she was good be her presence is bs. I have been many a good horse and bad horses in the last thirty years I have been in the business. I have seen horses hold themselves in high esteem, not to the extent of Zenyatta with her dancing to the post but I have seen this behavior among many horses that couldn't run a lick. We once had a full brother to the great John Henry in our barn, The best he could do for a mile was dismal. John Gosden shipped him back to his owners.
Imagine what the horse would be worth if they breed Midnight Bisou with Improbable?
Better off breeding her to a proven G1 producing sire.

No, it’ll be up to her new owner, they are auctioning her off November 7 or 8 in a breeders sale. So her new owner will then have to decide who they’ll breed her to.
Hmm I’d say Into Mischief or American Pharaoh.
Would loved to see her run some more and maybe challenged the other ladies like Monomoy Girl and Swiss Skydiver, but I think everybody retired. We will miss MB, almost beat Max Sec.

In case anyone is still wondering, she was bred to Curlin and is now in foal to Tapit and she's heading to the auction again in November 2022.

Yes they polished this one up nicely.. The mare retired sound (with a fractured sesimoid).. Bloom seems to take credit for everything this mare accomplished, and not one single mention of the two crooked, cheating, hall of fame super trainers that campaigned her... I love horse racing but sometimes the journalism is very shallow and videos like this seem like an infomercial for her breeding career.

Good horse but couldn’t beat Monomoy Girl in the big races. M. Girl won 7 grade 1 wins and was 13/15 , unbeatable. Unfortunately she had to take her fourth year off.

Yes, MB is a terrific and accomplished mare. But to say that because she earned more $ than others proves that she is the "best ever" is ridiculous. By that measure Man O'War would be way down the list. Purses and inflation change constantly. Most of MB's money came from the Dubai race, and few US horses ship to Dubai. Personal Ensign, Zenyatta, and many other great mares were as good if not better than MB, depending on your criterion.
This wouldn't even be a conversation if this horse dosnt get the benefit of Steve Assmussen's "special" program.. Notice that not once here were her two trainers names were mentioned...
I say she is one of the greatest as I avoid the singular when I speak about race horses. It is a pointless claim to name ANY horse the one and only greatest. So much about every great horse is debatable. Who they raced against, the quality of the opponents, the track the weather the conditions etc. You can say Secretariat had the greatest Belmont ever, you can point our Seattle Slew being the first undefeated TC winner. Plus I have to point out the use of illegal drugs which looking back on some really good horses puts into question their accomplishments but I LOVE the game and love so many horses and replay so many races. The internet has been great to see the horses that my parents loved and considered great. I have visited the Hall of Fame and so many can claim greatness as to make it moot in myopinion. People can get so upset trying to convice others of their opinion which is impossible
Monomoy Girl was the better horse
I wish all racehorses got such a storybook retirement package...instead for most it ends on a slaughterhouse kill floor...all owners shd b held legally responsible to properly rehome tbreds after the runs are done.
