One year ago (18/3) my boyfriend died by suicide. 13 days later 13 reasons why came on Netflix and it’s my favorite serie since then. I was in love with the soundtrack (only you) because it made me think about him. 13 reasons why really helped me a bit through this awful period in my life, and even though it still hurts it’s getting better.

See the show isn't glorifying the idea of suicide ... it's trying to open the conversation and aware people of the real life struggles of children, adults, men and women ... it's showing what happens in reality and whoever says otherwise is just trying to believe different.
Yes, it's only glorifying it if you chose to believe that. This show portrays reality and people are disturbed by reality.
I work in an inpatient psych unit. I think it's good to spread the word that people really think about suicide... however, many doctors and psychiatrists warned the producers of 13 reasons to not show the actual suicide scene because it does the opposite effect and more so "inspires" others who are already feeling suicidal. We have had multiple kids come in who have watched 13 reasons and then were "inspired" to do the same. It's very triggering for some people. They def shouldn't watch it but if suicide and pain is all they are thinking about and then there is a show about it, I'm sure it's tempting to watch. Another thing is that this show kinda has hannah "live on" throughout, even after her suicide. Many young people don't understand that when you die, you're dead. You aren't going to see the pain you've caused others. Again, I think it's good they are talking about mental health but there are some flaws in the show that I wish they could've done better at avoiding. Especially when advised by actual professionals in the psychiatry world.
Beth Smith but what people need to realize ... is that they didn’t show her death to inspire people who already suicidal to commit it .. it was to show everyone the pain in her shoes and the pain her family suffered .... like how real would the show be if it didn’t show her doing it and her family finding her in the bath tub ...??? Like just hiding another fact if they didnt show it ...
Yeah, I get there intentions. I don't think they meant to trigger people. However, there are studies that have proven by showing those who are suicidal watching a suicide, they are more likely to then commit it themselves. Which again, the show was warned about and advised against. I think they could've shown the pain without the bathroom scene in many different ways. But if you're thinking of the general public, I get it. People want detail and shock value. Obviously for you or I, it's not triggering. But to the people I work with and GO through these emotions, it's not helpful. Either way, they are talking about it.

In the sense that there’s a possibility that I am or not suicidal ... a lot of people looked at that scene and said heyy that’s not a choice in my book now and for people who looked at it as a way of being like “oh yeah now imma do it” obviously watched the whole show with a really different aspect .. which clearly they shouldn’t be watching it .. which is why they added the whole new intro ... I give this show props because it’s reality and you feel sympathy - it’s a discussion that should tells people we need to stick together not break each other down .. like I totally get what you’re saying but the show doesn’t deserve backlash from telling truth
What I love about Selena now in her recent music is that she cares more about the art than she does about making hits. Like she new that fetish and bad liar especially weren’t going to do well but she put them out anyway and now bad liar is the most critically acclaimed song in 2017. Back to you is such a beautiful song, lyrically and musically.
