Thank you for this! I ordered a Kalimba on Amazon yesterday and am so excited; I can't wait for it to come in. I used to play the guitar years ago until I had an injury that made me lose the use of one of my index fingers and yesterday I googled instruments to play without index fingers and found the Kalimba, lol. I'm so excited to have something I can play with my thumbs. I had no idea these even existed until yesterday 🤣

First thing I did when I got my kalimba yesterday was play 8 melodies from Mother/Earthbound beginnings. It's always my go to song for new instruments. And just like every instrument, it reminds me just how much I don't know and should learn from videos out there.

I was inspired to take a closer look and listen of the kalimba since I'm reading the autobiography of Earth, Wind, and Fire founder Maurice White. I have played piano and am currently taking banjo lessons so I don't want to put too much on my plate for the time being. I may reconsider more seriously sometime in the future.
I got a kalimba on my birthday and I already failed the first step, to grow your nails. And I, who have an unhealthy nail biting habit, this is not a good sign.
heyy thats ok.. i sometimes but my nails too.. everyone has their own weaknesses and strengths.. just try to grow your nails, even just a lil bit would do the job :)
Getting acrylic nails helped me to stop my nail biting habit. Maybe you can try that. Good luck.

I just ordered a Kalimba so my daughter and I can learn to play. She's very much into music and wanting to play instruments, and I played several growing up. I'm super excited for this new adventure for her and I to go on together... I found your channel while trying to find beginner ideas/tutorials for the Kalimba, and I'm glad I did! I subbed right away! It doesn't seem like a lot of people know about the Kalimba, at least those around me, so this is definitely a new experience :) Will definitely be checking out your other videos :)

I have three great-nieces, five (almost six) years old, to eight (almost nine) years old, who have been studying piano for years. I bought three Kalimbas for them from a company that offers the same Kalimba, in three colors! How wonderful! I also bought an electronic Kalimba tuning device for them to share. They live in America, but far away. The Kalimbas for them are supposed to arrive today! I purchased a 17-key Kalimba, the kind I purchased for them because I also wanted to learn, and I wanted to become familiar with what I was giving them I believe this is a wonderful way to tell the girls, "thanks for having the self-control and desire to learn the piano". I think it will be fun for them to compare and contrast the piano and the thumb piano. I'm very excited that I will soon be able to ship them this special instrument! I believe they will be very happy as I was able to purchase not only the Kalimbas, but actually a wonderful "kit", with beginner's manual, tuning hammer, optional thumb protectors, optional note-identifying stickers, a cleaning cloth, and all in protective plastic bubbles and a beautiful bag and gift box! Your video was a great help to me just now. I will continue to follow you and recommend your channel to the girls at the appropriate time. Thank you very much for providing this very helpful information.

I learned many Instruments in my Life. Violin, different flutes, a little bit Piano and Handbells. I Had to Stop playing Handbells in a choir ten years ago and i played for more than 20 years so i Miss it so hard. But the kalimba Sounds very similar to Handbells so i Bought one. Äh OK i Bought eight in two weeks to find one i really Like. Now i play a hollow kalimba From Ortega and my First Song is "you are my sunshine" and i am so proud 🤣 i mean i played really big monumental Classic Songs with my Handbells choir but now i am so proud to Play a Mini small Song on the kalimba, that is funny for me but it Is healing for my Soul after the loss of the Handbells. For Christmas my whole Family will get a kalimba so they can Play and learn and Stop Missing Handbells so hard i did until now.

Could you give additional playing tips, like beginner scales and more easy songs like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”? Could you please tell us where to order the stickers/notes that you have on the tines? I like yours better than others. I am so excited to start practicing. How do you start a daily practice, like where do you find practice examples.

the notes are actually engraved on the tines of one my kalimbas I used in this video. Most of my kalimbas do not have sticker notes because they leave gooey residues on the tines.. so .. I opt to just write on them using a sharpie

Tysm a very good tutorial it resolved almost all my doubts but I have a question im sorry if its a bit stupid buy how do you know whether you have to play the higher tine or lower time for any note?
Try to practice your ear, there are times you will realize that , hey this sounds lower, this sounds higher, then try to pluck it in the kalimba :)
"Simply pluck the tiles with your thumbnails. Yes your thumbnails"
I guess I'm not playing the piano from now on if I need to grow my nails
