What episode
This comment deserves so much more likes
I am a huge fan of that episode but i do not see any connection. Squidward (who lived too long near Spongebob) was able to enter and leave in his own will and was able to interact with the neighborhood unlike this film where it was basically a trap for a slow death

Interesting ... they've been abducted!
Thanks for this .. you saved me a google search also.
A harsh look on how we might be looked upon by God, from the director’s perspective I suppose. “Raise the child and be released”...
In other words,
The couple= Adam and Eve
Fall from heaven= the town
Getting trapped= life ( as opposed to life in Paradise)
The baby in the box = producing and raising another human to keep the cycle of life going
Raise the child and be released= Do your job on earth, then be released and move on to the afterlife !
What do you make of this?

This movie is something else truly amazing. Not your typical already chewed and digested movie that leaves nothing to the imagination. It’s weird, clever and refreshing.
It's also predictable from the get go
The ground structure is stolen from a potcast, the plot is predictable, the roles are just the stereotypical ones... And it's not clever when one it just to lazy to create at least a little background.
Exactly this !!!
Clearly you were born way after The Twilight Zone TV series...not your typical? Its straight out of that show. You know there is nothing new between heaven and earth, right Homer?

It was nice to see Jesse Eisenberg in this movie. I had not seen him since Now You See Me. He is just as handsome as I remembered, and I am glad he is still rockin’ those curls.
Trying to understand the plot of this movie without understanding the definition of the title will be hard for some.
No it won't...
The movie seemed like a metaphor for life imo. Stuck in a simulation working for nothing, hoping for a better future… then you die. It was pretty dark. Lol
Update- I did not know the meaning of Vivarium when I first watched the movie one year ago. I have heard aquarium and terrarium, but had never heard it called that. It really is very close to how we treat caged animals as others have commented! 😔
Ashley Marie I mean a vivarium is a tank where u keep pets like lizards and they cant really escape
It's aquarium, but instead of fishes, there is these people :D
If you know basic Latin, you could easily deduce that the word “vivarium” comes from “viva” (life; to live) and the suffix “-ium” which when applied to a noun becomes a place or environment... Terrarium, aquarium, planetarium... vivarium, like someone else said, an aquarium but for people lol.

The movie is a representation on how humans would look like if we're Cuckoo birds. Just like the beginning of the Movie, a Cuckoo Bird was laid in other birds nest (just like the baby was given to Tom and the girl (not the baby's actual parents), and yet the other mother bird still feeds the Cuckoo Bird (just like Tom and the girl, they still raise the boy even though he's not their son and they didn't want it). Cuckoo Bird screams when they wanted food (just like the boy). And eventually, the Cuckoo Bird ate the mother who keeps feeding him all this time (just like the boy dispose the couple like they were nothing, even though they kept him).

“That’s nature. That’s just the way things are.” Dead wrong. In nature, there is chaos, there is variety, there is conflict, there is purpose. In Vivarium; perfection. Horrifying, incomprehensible, maddening perfection, made for an imperfect couple.
I figured it was actually perfect because they were part of an experiment. They wanted to control all the variables and thus put the humans in a sterile environment.

LOVED this movie! I can see the parallels from Lorcan Finnegan's original short film "Foxes".
My interpretation is that the film is a weird, macabre and depressive view of life. Imogen and Jesse were free at the start (possibly representing the childhood years) however they become trapped in the suburban labyrinth (presenting how adults how less free than they once were). Then the child comes along to be raised by them where Jesse gives into his paternal disciplinary side to the boy while Imogen gives into her maternal urges to care for the boy. Jesse begins to dig (representing our jobs) and how it literally destroys men physically (shown to us as he dies) while Imogen is emotionally broken by the child (shown by her decent to death at the end) while the child lives on to become another worker into the systematic cycle.
Edit: Damn, who’d thought I’d continue getting so much hate for having an opinion on a movie

the movie itself is so disturbing, but it wouldn't be if the director didn't do what they did. in this movie, the director made every single shot still. no shot was moving except when gemma was falling through the different colored levels and stuff. with it being still, it gives the viewers a sense of suffocation and them being stuck. not moving anywhere. not moving forward in finding the way out. stuck. props to the director, amazing work.

For what I can see, the aliens are only using a human couple for imitation purposes. They have a short life cycle, and so must imitate humans in order to trick the next couple into being their next host.

The answer of this movie is at the beginning of the movie about the bird.. the alien use human n trapped them in vivarium to raise rheir child and adapt/learn about human . @@gabrielaaristy1565 i'm not really a fan of horror movies, I get really bad dreams, but i'm really into thriller. I just want to ask if this movie is scary?? like with jumpscares and horror elements
@@ianbontilao1450 For me, of all the movies i watched, i found this movie the most scary, pLUS ANXIETY 100% and i don't want to experience IT. It's just..... some of the scenes are really creepy and the whole point gives me goosebumps. I don't reccomend you watch it because i couldn't sleep and i got scared of my own house- anyways yeah it was scary for me even it wasn't a horror film.
Edit: and yeah there is a creepy/scary scene (pretty scary). No jumpscares.
