I applied at my local Sheriffs dept for a IT Technician position. I respect what you guys do, you guys deal with the scum of society daily.
Iâm 38, about 4 months ago I was 300lbs and struggled walking up the stairs. In that time I managed to get fit, dropped 40lbs, easily beat the pat and have just received a conditional offer of employment. I still got 30lbs to go but if you put your mind to it and really dedicate your life to being healthy, itâs totally possible. When I took the Pat in seattle I came third in my group and they were all military guys.
Absolutely inspiring and incredible!!! The effort and work is worth it, and youâre proof of that! Thanks for sharing your story about this!! If youâre good with it, keep the 10 Code Mindset community posted on your journey!
@@The10CodeMindset 100% I will. As I said I still have the medical and psych to go. Iâm worried that my bmi will still be above 32 so whatâs your thoughts on that? Do you think that it could be an issue? I would hate for it to be a problem considering Iâve worked my ass off đ€Ł
I've seen applicants who became new hires who were definitely 32+ when it came to BMI, but that's just my experience. I really do not know what the fine print is. Sorry, wish I did for you. You said you had more weight to go, and you obviously can get it down. You've got this!
@@The10CodeMindset yea I also think in todays climate they may have some discretion and thatâs what Iâm hoping for. Great channel by the way. Iâll keep you updated đđđ
Just a quick update. Iâve started with the department and hopefully will be in the academy in the next month.
Awesome video, my friend! Thanks for the shout out.
Thank you Coach for making yoga tolerable! đ My body still feels like Iâm in my 20âs!
Oh this is awesome. I thought HIIT training wasnât going to help me as much and I wanted to focus more on lifting weights. This video definitely helps. đđŸThank you
Awesome! Glad you found it helpful. I just did a HIIT workout this morning. Kicked my you know what đȘ
Thank you, that has been my biggest struggle throughout the process. Getting in shape to be able to pass these physical tests.
Stick with it, keep showing up for a workout and nourishing your body. Consistency and determination.
Mine too, but ive decided chocolate and burgers mean more to me than a stressful job, but im older and set in my ways
Love your content, keep it up
I appreciate that
Iâm so glad you came up with this video as someone who is 22 had no detection in my life Iâve decided to start to work on myself to become a cop and your advice will help me greatly thank you.
Youâve got this! đȘ
And I appreciate you sharing that.
I cannot thank God enough for this channel Just the motivation I needed đđ»
Thanks be to God indeed, all day every day!
And Iâm grateful you found the video(s) motivational. Take care!!
Iâm 23 i Start the academy in January. I need to fix my 1.5 run and drop it down by 3 mins and fix my sit ups. This video is very helpful
YOU GOT THIS! Train your you know what off! And I'm grateful you found the video helpful.
I can't believe I made this video over 2 years ago.
Thank you for this video I have the training on the 15 of next month this helps me alot
Great! I'm glad to know the video was helpful. All the best to you! Do the work!
Thanks man. I'm thin and I am entering police academy in January. Will be doing everything you said thank you once again. đđœ
Anytime! Stay healthy and fit! Wish you the best! Remember to treat people with respect and empathy and youâll be fine.
Thanks a bunch mate, such a great resource. Recently passed my panel interview for the Western Australian police and I've been a bit worried about the physical portion of the academy. I will definitely keep these tips in mind and work hard on the calisthenics and especially the cardio. Might give yoga a try too!đ€Łđ€Ł
No might about it, just do it đ
Iâm grafeful you found the video helpful
Iâm really doing well on sit-ups and push-ups for my academy times but Iâm struggling with my 1.5 mile run. Iâm close to a 10 minute mile but I seem to gas out after a mile and slow down. I hope this video helps me with one month left of training before academy! Thank you!
Eat healthy, get good sleep, and some things that helped me during the track and Marine Corps days was to run hills as much as possible and run longer distances than the required distance. Donât give up! You can do this!
dude this channel has been a goldmine for me. thank you so much
I really appreciate that!
Iâm 36 and looking at joining the County Police department but I definitely was struggling at how to start preparing myself for getting into shape for the academy. This really motivates me to ease into them without burning myself out and to slowly add more to my routine as I move along. I definitely want to do my best and I feel this will point me in the right direction especially with push ups/ sit ups and the running parts in the academy
Hey thanks for commenting! Yeah just going all out from the start will definitely burn you outâŠbut going all in with the perspective of continuously showing up, thatâs the game changer. I wish you the best!
38 and same, we can do this man
Same 38 and will be applying soon, we can do this man.
When i went to do the agility test a poor chubby guy could not even get a foot over the 6 foot wall. Train hard lady's and gents on some David Goggins unbreakable mentality! đȘ

I am 20, and got some plus weight that I really wanna get rid of. In the past couple of weeks I looked into starting some kind of workout even created a plan of some sorts to start with. When I was in High school I disliked running very, very much. I am planning on starting jogging and improving the pace and distance as times go on to get in shape and create some leg muscle, I don't know if it's a good start for someone like me with a 242lbs body weight. Then the usual stuff with push ups, situps, squats, and pullups. I really need some heads-ups or confirmations from pros like you whether it would be a good start. :D Thank You, sir! God Bless
I am definitely not a pro trainer by any means, just speaking from experience. But you got this! Stay determined and just put in the work. Some fitness channels I follow (in addition to Sean Vigue) are Bully Juice and NEXT Workout. Iâm sure they have weight-loss/beginner routines to start. Just donât start out with something too intense, leading to injury and/or discouragement. Hope that helps!
I try to enroll in my country for being a cop but i start by using start to run and progressivly improve my condition stamina i want to eventualy try to do marathons easy. besides that i use rubber bands to use that to strenghten my arms, push ups, sit ups, planks, squats.
I also use whey protein suplements beside the healthy food i already am eating just to suplement it and ensureing to be in top condition.
Taking action! đȘ
Better you than me with the marathon đ
Needed this my academy starts on august 19
Outstanding! Do the work. You got this!
Sincerely,
A guy who started the âacademyâ in August 2007 đ
@@The10CodeMindset yeah Iâm hoping for the best, I currently work at a hospital as a security officer and get a lot of tips from our company police officers

You got this! My former supervisor was 5â1. I would encourage you to train BJJ or Krav Maga. I state that for everyone interested in joining.
I have about 12 months to get ready for the academy and I'm starting today. Wish me luck!
You won't need luck, just consistency and discipline. You got this!
@@The10CodeMindset Thank you sir :D
Howâd it go?
Hey I'm 18 and I plan on going through the academy. I'm not usually the fitness kind of guy but I'm attempting to start now. I'm just hoping they hire me đ. I get so parched runnin.
You're going to need it (fitness), but at least you started! If you're not the running type (like me) then follow some at home workouts on CZcams. In addition to Sean Vigue Fitness, I follow Bully Juice and Next Workout. Stick with it! Best wishes to you applying to the academy and eventually working at a police department.
Been at PD for 12 years. Iâve gotten fattish and just pure weak and out of shape. But Iâve decided to apply for Trooper academy. I have a lot of work to do. Gonna suck but I need a lot of freakin suck right now (yâall donât take that out of context now). Iâm looking forward
Lol
Understood what you meant and time to start feeling the pain for the gain. đȘ
All the best to you!
Iâm 6â2â and was 225lbs a couple of months ago. Iâve been eating clean 1500-2000 calories per day and nothing after 8:30pm. I am just now being consistent with my workouts and running. I am down to 197. I still canât do more than 15 push-ups in a row, no chin-ups, 30 sit-ups, and 1 mile without my legs getting too tight to run. I do the pre-POPAT June 7 and the program begins in August. Iâll be ready with no problems for August, but a little nervous about the preliminary physical qualifying tests. And Iâm 43.
Wow! You're taking action and making progress! Do you do yoga? Go to Coach Vigue's channel and look up beginner yoga and work your way up. I do not run that much anymore because unfortunately my knees are bad after the Marines, BJJ, and Policing...but when I do run, it's like I never stopped because of the endurance and agility from yoga. Can help with pushup and sit ups too, but congrats on the weight loss achievement. czcams.com/video/ee44JJaWbIo/video.html
Howâd police academy go
@@User_-jg9wy It went well, but after an injury on my farm, Iâve had to pursue other opportunities.
@@stumpbumpers sorry to hear that man Iâm 16 hopefully going to get into police academy as soon as I turn 18 I will sighn up and hopefully join at 18 1/2 anytips that got you thru for a little while before the injury? Also good luck in life wish you the best of luck
@@User_-jg9wy As in anything, stay focused on the task at hand. Remove all distractions and commit your time to study. You can get by, not studying, but you will not be the best you can be at law enforcement and a liability. If you want upward movement, you need to be educated and education takes dedication. The physical aspect of it is more about competing with yourself and progressing during the program.
Hey brother . 2 years ago I went to our state police academy. I was 340lbs. I didnât quit and went all 12 weeks, but in the end my final o course time 15 seconds over time, so I failed the academy. Since then Iâm now 250+ lbs and will be attending again in a few weeks. Iâm just worried that maybe the weight loss wonât make as big a difference as Iâm hoping it will, any words of encouragement?
You lost almost 100 pounds! Thatâs awesome! Iâm sure it will help. Looks like you suck at giving up, so I think you will be fine. Keep being awful at quitting and I would say do power yoga and more burpees. Just my advice. Congrats on losing the weight and then getting another chance. You can do this!! Be tenacious!
@@The10CodeMindset yes sirđŻđŻ
Hi brother next month have to do 1.5 in 15 minutes 55 seconds. 15 inch vertical which im so worried about since the 3 meniscus surgeries. 24 push-ups in minute which I can do and situps 28 in min and 300 meter. Any tips on vertical
Hello good sir! I really have no idea how to jump higher from a stand still, but what has helped my knees is stretching my itBand, having turmeric and Relief Factor vitamins. Power yoga and stretching. Also reducing diary and refined sugars. This is what has helped me, but since I'm not a doc by any means I really can't give direction.
Hello, I don't know if any of y'all are having this problem but I thought I'd ask. Do any of y'all get really bad foot pains after running long distance? It's like a burning sensation that goes away after you rest it for a bit. (It comes back after you start up again.) If you have, do you know how I can prevent it from happening so I can run farther distances? Thanks so much for your time!
Careful, might be plantar fasciitis. I dealt with it when I ran track in high school. Do you stretch before running? Do you have new shoes with good support to them? Roll a tennis ball under your foot, putting tolerable pressure on it. Good massage. Also, this might help, start smart: czcams.com/video/P3Quz5jVC-w/video.html
@@The10CodeMindset I'm gonna try stretching a lot more before I go out running. I tried the tennis ball and I think it really helped. Thanks for responding.
@@liftedcandy9146 Good! Glad it is helping! Stay well!
@@The10CodeMindset You too!
How long would it take to be prepared if you never worked out before?
I'm not a fitness expert or trainer, but it depends on the consistency and efficiency of your new workout plan...AND...some police academies are physically grueling (which I'm not saying they shouldn't be), and then other academies it's pretty darn easy. So there is that to consider with your fitness planning. Hope that helps.
Hi, going in soon, hope Im not too old. 35 years old. My age worries me... have a good day.
You will be just fine as long as you are in good shape for the Academy, and I do not mean collegiate athlete shape! A friend of mine joined at age 47 or so and he is still in kicking arse and taking names! As you have questions just let me know.
@@The10CodeMindset Thank you, I am in shape. Actually my body fat was recently too low. I'm 6'5 and 200lbs. Thank you for the good words of motivation .

I have a question that is unrelated to this video. I am a 16 year old female and I really want to be a police officer. I have studied and watched videos for the past few months and know all the pros and cons. I am ready, as soon as I hit the age Im going to the academy. The only problem I have now is support. I have had multiple bad arguments with my mom about this, and I just want her to support me! My dad does and even he has tried to talk to my mom. She doesnt think it is a good idea because Im a girl and she thinks Im going to die. I understand completely there is a chance I can get hurt or killed, but I want her to see I really want to do this with my life! My uncle had a full rant on why I need to change my career, and I understand why they are worried, but I wish they would at least support me and be happy for me! I cant even talk to my mom about it because she gets upset and starts telling me I shouldnt do this, and its really having a toll on me emotionally. I was just wondering if you had the same problem and what I should do about it.
Thanks for sharing and please understand Iâm not intending to get into the middle of a debate but this situation does remind me of when I wanted to enlist in the Marine Corps at 17 and my mom was very apprehensive about it until she met with the recruiter and had all of her questions answered. So having said that, would meeting a police hiring supervisor/recruiter at your local Police Department be possible? Is there an explorers or cadet program you can participate in? Is there a citizens police academy event the family could attend? Just brainstorming for you. I wish you the best!
DDP yoga
Hey Brother, for long runs (5 - 8 miles ) what is the pace you guys suggest at the Academy? Jogg or run or right in the middle? Thanks
Btw awesome video. đđœ
Thank you! Now when it comes to an 8 mile run, I wouldnât have been able to do that in the academy! Haha! If this reference helps, I would suggest being to run 1.5 miles in less than 12 minutes and if you have to maintain a pace for 5 miles then be able to run the total 5 in less than an hour.
@@The10CodeMindset Yeah. I actually do match 1.5 in 12 min and running 5 M with in an hour.
For the 5 Mile, I actually Jog 10-11 min per mile. I was just concerned about that if i have to run 5 mile with the same pace for the 1.5 miles run? Because that would be tough lol
Any information on that brother?
Thank you
I canât remember if we ever had to run 5 miles. If we did it was not expected to be a timed and graded run.
@@The10CodeMindset Thank you for the information brother. Appreciated

Donât quote me on this, as I never worked in hiringâŠbut if it doesnât inhibit the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, then I donât see a problem.
25 and working in teaching, and I've decided I want to change careers. My biggest issue was diet, but I've already dropped 10 pounds (190 to 180), and I've gone from barely being able to run to having a bit of trouble running 10 minutes straight.
Sounds weak as hell I know, but my dumb ass never cared about my health until I was already fat as all get out.
It is NEVER too late to get back into shape, and I have no doubt that you can, as you know you must. Keep showing up and dominate!
Hello Sir.... I want to join police force but i can't run i always get tired ... What should i do?
Hi there! I could give a lot of information, but in addition to the content in the video, I would focus on good sleep, running a little bit further each week at your pace, and then maintain an overall healthy eating style. I know it can be intimidating, but to get better at running, fuel your body and just keep practicing the running. I wish you the best!
