  • In the 1960s, Zambian patriot Edward Mukuka Nkoloso had a dream to launch a rocket that would send 12 astronauts, a girl and cats to the moon.
He hoped to beat the United States and Russia space programs at the height of the space race.
He took his "Afronauts" through strenuous training.
But due to lack of funding, his project never took off.

    Fun Fact....
Nkoloso wrote letters to many Western Governments and even the United Nations asking for donations... which ranged from few thousand dollars to millions of dollars... But he received none. The only documented donation that he received was a INR 10 rupees note from a young individual from INDIA...
I myself as an Indian who have lived and worked in Africa, know the potential of Africans.
Your kindness is unparalleled to any other on this planet, ur Tenacity is superhuman, ur strength is envious... The only thing that pulls your people down is infighting... Africa is ONE, Africans are ONE...

Wow! Now that's a great human being. He was a leader in his time, showing you can have dreams, because dreams are the beginning of reality, in which we can reach the stars in many different ways. What a wonderful man of vision ❤, as to quality and dignity of not only human development but also societal development in which all human being have dreams and vision of a better world. Many people, especially African Americans never even heard of this man. That's because the less African Americans know about individuals such as this man, the more we stay in the dark (confused and lost). This man should have been a great hero to not only African Americans but all people as well. There is a lack of scholarly literatures out in the world that recognize this man as a great human leader with visions of development for Africans and all people.

No matter how impossible nor how far fetched, can you say you've lived if you've never attempted what you know in your heart you were meant to do. No matter where you're from or how dire your circumstances, it's our ability to dream which creates Empires.

I like the take Kalenga has (a student interviewed). Take the inspirational good points from Nkoloso. My only hang-up is the lack of maths and physics (or perhaps starting with model rockets to give a visual representation to wind resistance, fuel to weight ratios, course trajectories)
Adding the actual understanding of science and engineering would've made the crazy far less batshit and a bit more substantial a more tangible dream than hoisting children up in an oil drum and pretending that's a rocket.
    (Like I said, sentiment 👍 execution👎)

lol it's so cute seeing a third world country trying to science. Metal cylinders for rockets without any engine. Using tire swings to simulate weightlessness. It's like watching a child sitting in a box pretending it's a car or a plane. It's so adorable...or at least it would be if they weren't grown adults. But yeah, go ahead and praise the child for pretending to be an astronaut.
