Will A New Cold War Emerge Between US And China? | Insight | Full Episode

  • The simmering tensions between the US and China have reached a boiling point during the coronavirus pandemic. In rapidly evolving global dynamics, the Trump administration officially pulled the plug on US funding of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) criticising the organisation for being too friendly with China and for providing cover for Beijing in the wake of its mishandling of the COVID-19 outbreak. As the two largest economies of the world get openly hostile and indulge in a war of words, what’s at stake goes beyond implications to trade dispute. Will the confrontational policy of the US towards China continue beyond the US Presidential election in November? Could this be the beginning of a new Cold War? Are the US-China relations edging to a point of no return?

    copied from K C Koay
The spike of reported cases in the United States from 85 cases (on March 2) to 1,367,638 cases (80,787 deaths) on May10, is just something too difficult to grapple with.
It seems to point towards the situation where a cover-up was in the work, for someone blunders, intentional or otherwise.
    Cases in point:
    * CDC director, Mr Robert Redfield, had admitted in his testimony to the Congress on 13 March 2020, that the virus deaths have been miscategorised as the flu. He had also stated that the standard practice has been to first test people for the flu and, if the test is positive, they stopped there. They don’t test for the coronavirus.
    * The denial by both U.S. state and Federal authorities to grant permission to infectious disease experts in Seattle, lead by Dr. Helen Y. Chu, to test for Covid-19 in the sate of Washington, especially when the presence of coronavirus was already looming like an elephant in the living room. For weeks have passed by since Wuhan lock down, and outbreaks have been reported in countries outside of China.
The progression of infected cases, and the way it explodes in the United States and Europe vs that of China and Asia, suggests that “it (the Covid-19) must have been here this entire time..It’s just everywhere already,” as Dr. Helen Y. Chu, the Seattle based infectious disease expert, observed.
Someone responsible for controlling the emergency preparedness and response against the spread of infectious diseases in the United States must have failed - big time!
What better way is there for the perpetrators to cover-up other than blaming the bogeymen, China and the W.H.O.?

I happened to live for 5 years in Shenzhen, working there and I can tell that the citizens of China do not suffer under the CCP. Infact, the CCP has more than 60% approval rates in surveys done by independent media. Deng Xiaoping started the greatest poverty alleviation in 1978, today, China is seeing the fruits of this labour. 600M people lifted out of poverty.
How can you classify the CCP as bandits? What reasons and explanations do you have? Furthermore, do you know that having lived 5 years in Shenzhen, I have witnessed elections in China for their local leaders AND also they have channels that they feedback to the upper echelons if their griveances are not heard?

If China became democratic with a moral directive then it could become a better more moral more equitable, and indeed a better place, and perhaps the saviour of civilization.
From the invasion of China in 1937 to the end of World War II, the Japanese military regime murdered near 3,000,000 to over 10,000,000 people, most probably almost 6,000,000 Chinese, Indonesians, Koreans, Filipinos, and Indochinese, among others, including Western prisoners of war.
Whilst it would have been morally correct to stand up to Chinas CCP, I do not really see America making morally correct moves it seems only interested in serving its own goals,
which seems short-sighted and not clear, foggy! - Hoping all will be well with the world. It seems China will take the world and we will all become a
little China with a dictator. Our rights and freedoms will be taken away. We have seen history tell us that acting slowly, and especially now! IN TIME OF
CRISIS makes everything far worse. I am discouraged by the west and its allies actions and feel they will curtail to a bikie gang like the CCP.
if China became democratic with a moral directive then it could become a better more moral more equitable, and indeed a better place and perhaps the saviour of civilization.

We live in interesting times. The key question in a new cold war is which countries line up on which sides, which countries remain neutral ... and what forces will be applied to every nation. My guess is S Korea will be the biggest piece of the puzzle. China and US will both apply the carrot and stick. China may offer to help S Korea reunite with N Korea in an amiable way. And there are many huge economic carrots and sticks no matter which way S Korea turns. Countries fortunate enough to escape being locked into outside controlling superpower dominance will be hard but the least dangerous option .... i.e. Fence sitters doing a balancing act playing the superpowers off against each other while being courted by each.
