El and Mike are so good at that unsuspecting lyrical slap to the face.
After I heard this song the first time, I added it to my "driving to work" playlist, just to get me in the right headspace. Great song and reaction as always!
Looool This song (just the beat) was used in a famous car commercial. I knew the song before the commercial came out, so when I first saw this commercial with my mom and she liked the beat and asked me for the name of it, I almost died laughing knowing the opening lyrics.
The production quality on this video is incredible. They filmed in the Ukraine and hired award winning actors and a movie film crew. Full Hollywood quality film production.
Absolutely correct in all aspects. Love the song, video. Everything
This song got me into run the jewels i was thrown into it like u said with no context and enjoyed it thoroughly
Same here... thought it was the greatest video ever when I saw it.. and have been a huge RTJ fan ever since.
I heard it at the end of an episode of Silicon Valley, had to find it immediately. Went ALLL the way down the rabbit hole and have never come out.
Also, can someone explain to me why they aren’t talked about more? Ever. I have never understood why they aren’t included in more hip hop conversations.
Because they're a threat to the surounding vulture's competition
Unfortunately, I think, they are too real for people, too many people have been indoctrinated into avoiding topics that make them uncomfortable.
@@peacemaker00 very fair point
@@peacemaker00 Then why the f**k is Tom MacDonald so popular? Because RTJ beats him in every category, and he’s just as political.
@@SparkimusPrime touche, I'm not a fan of him so didn't even think about him.
I STILL find myself listening to RTJ regularly (RTJ is a practically perfect album). Even if you don't react to all of their music here, you'll be doing yourself a favor by going through all of their work - one of the best to ever do it!
i love how they also released instrumental versions of their albums...
i made a playlist that first plays the instrumental and then the regular version of all their tracks on their albums, so it feels like all their songs have a super long intro 😃
@@dawatcherz The cat themed remix was actually almost better than the original album
@@vorpalrobot true, meow the jewels is kewl
It might've been said already but the video(As I understand it) is essentially a commentary on the state of politics in America. Both parties get into ridiculously dramatic conversations but it's the workers/working class of America who have to clean it up or deal with it in the end all the while watching the dramatics with a strong sense of disapproval
What i also love about run the jewels are the "modern" hip hop beats, they are so sweet and show that it's still possible to develop and stay dope without getting wack over time 😅✌️
As for the video's meaning, it can't be divorced from the time: Aug 24, 2016. It's about the lies and underlying truth of politics, and how sickening it is when politics devolves to barbarism. Killer Mike said, likening the visual to our current presidential election, “It’s such a dope video. It’s what I really wish Trump and Hillary would just do and get it over with … And even in that fight I think Hillary would win - and that’s not an endorsement.”
Clinton ONLY wins a physical fight with trump if she's able to hire her usual hitmen instead of fighting.i You'd have to be legitimately crazy to think that withered corpse could damage anyone physically with her hands OR that she wouldn't be outright killed from a single, well placed face shot.
hillary would win? no chance 🤣
@@ms-xh1gx That's what Killer Mike said, not what I would say. XD
@@thetalantonx ik
I love RTJ 🔥🔥🔥 This video is one of my favorites 🖤
This was my first RTJ and I fucking love it, such a hype fucken song.
I've always taken the video as a commentary on how most politics - especially on the world stage, and even more especially from America, UK, China, and Russia - is little more than posturing and bigging themselves up, and the inescapable result will always be just a brutal free for all. And the dude grabbing the USA flag and waving it around to keep everyone away, then almost using it to brutally end the other guy, is so much how most of the world views America over these last few decades particularly, with it becoming more and more obvious to the rest of the world how involved America has been in so many wars.
I am so happy. Whomever recommended this to you.....legend.
six days from DJ Shadow is amazing
Ive been waiting for someone to request this song to you for MONTHS glad to finally see you checkin it out
Amazing video from DJ Shadow. Love his style, and then to add Run The Jewels with such a kicking baseline just "Chef's Kiss". I mean Run the Jewels isn't my style, but the blending is just awesome.
Amazing track .I saw Dj Shadow 2 weeks ago in Vancouver. Amazing show and the sound was incredible. This track deserves praise. Thanks for checking in out and spreading the word.
The people with power make a mess of everything while the regular people have to clean up the mess.
The next videos from then you need to checkout are out of sight and oh la la they are amazing as usual.
This is a great song. DJ Shadow and Killer Mike are LEGENDS. Can't wait to see your reaction to this. (had to come back and add this... That Trump line right? LMAO!)
That Trump line
@@---l--- IKR
EL-P too. If you only know him from RTJ, definitely check out his solo work
@@downwardisheavenward3006 and Company Flow
@@paulmcguigan7417 I actually don’t know if I know anything from them?
I think he is so caught up in fighting that the only thing that can finally stop him in his tracks is realizing that somebody else has to clean up his mess.
I was on about 5 grams of shrooms the first time I saw this, and “close your eyes and count to fuck” they’ve been 2 of my favorites since that day.
I love this one, a lot of songs RTJ do have a burning sort of anger to them but it frequently feels restrained a bit? And this is just them full on letting lose. Also love the touch of El-P and Killer Mike being in the video, reacting to their own bars with disgusted looks.

I have this song in a playlist for when I played Eve online.
First time I saw this video, I had to rewatch it like five times, the visuals are just great. As for further RTJ videos you really should check out Ooh-La-La ft Greg Nice & DJ Premier, Out of Sight ft. 2 Chainz, and Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fk) ft Zack de la Rocha (from RATM) all are great to watch.
I thought he had done Close Your Eyes since he was kinda describing it when he talked about previous RTJ videos he's seen.. but yeah, he NEEDS to do that one!! RTJ + Zack is such an awesome combination. Was great seeing them do it live together before RATM cancelled their tour.
Love this song and video. Glad you enjoyed it.
i love watching people listen to cool-a22 music for the first time. especially cool videos, like this one. I heard this when i was watching a show about two years ago, ShutEye was the name of the show...this song was the closing credit tune to one of the last episodes, and I had to look it up to see who did it. Loved it, still blast it in my car, sounds great with the bass turned all the way up!
No Save Point by Yankee and the Brave (Run the Jewels) - Beautiful video, great song.
Love RTJ
Yes! Yes! Yes! More RTJ and more DJ Shadow!
LOL!!! "I'll get dressed up like I'm Santa, take a picture with your kids"... The ultimate diss track.
Did you see the one where the kids are robbing the museum? I can't remember the song, but Two Chains was in it.
❤❤❤
This song was the first time I'd ever hear RTJ: Ozarks S1E3 end credits.
Immediately got me into the rest of their set.
This song is just rock-solid trash talk.
"I will fall off in your crib, take a sh!t," is the most disrespectful line I have ever heard.
Love this song.
I don’t love a lot of rap but I like these guys
Great song.
I don't listen or know anything else from DJ Shadow and only know a few other RTJ songs, this one is great.
First time hearing this had to buy it. Thx Loyd.
My daughter made CD's for me years ago and this was on a list . She called me and asked if i knew all of the words LMAO
'Leaders say and do some absolute baffling and utterly stupid shit, everyone else is afraid to say or do something against them cause of the fear of "getting choked". Even when they decide to take action, they still choose sides instead of stopping them. The lady in the last scene represents us, the common people. When things go south due to leader's bad decisions and actions, it's always the common people who suffer.'
Just my observation. RTJ has the ability to subtly showcase these kind of serious topics with a comedic perspective but nonetheless they are deep.
RTJ baby!!
I think RTJ videos are the visual equivalent of Aesop Rock's lyrics. Dense, but with significant thought put into them, and generally worth unpacking
This is the best thing. Ever.
First time i heard this i was like 👍 👌🏼 wtf like hitchhikers guide to the galaxy in song form just yes
I really like this song one of the songs on my playlist
one of the best music videos
Ooooooooooooooh LA LA (ah oui oui)
A favorite song
My boys EL and Mike hell yeah
I think this is about the two parties in the US fighting, and making a huge mess, and we’re left to clean up the mess.
Well, I am from Denmark, and back in the late 1990’s an American ok basketball player playing in Denmark visit the radio stadiostation I was a DJ at. He was in chock on what we could say on air😂, anywho I get why some might say it’s nasty.😊
Dope as hell
It's one of those songs that ain't a favorite, but I always down to listen to.
Yes! 👉🤛
sweet. best video ever
the symbolism isn't particularly layered. politicians trash the place, and then it's on the ordinary citizen (the maid in this case) to pick up the pieces.
YES MORE RTJ
My second favorite. 1st is Darling Don’t Cry.
This song aged well with the red and blue ties.
You are right, the symbolism is on point with the superpowers wrestling while the other people are like, "Dude, what the fuck?!" Because they are just trying to get by and do their thing.
im a year late in seeing this reaction, but dude, this shit was great, im subbing for this video
This song is fucking dope.
RTJ is so underrated
Shit is still so fucking epic 😂
Omg dear sir, your face when they started...
Dear Mr. L. Boyd, Sir,
I, too, adore RTJ.
If you have not already listened to and viewed the video for countdown to f*ck, please do yourself the favor; but even more than that, if you only ever listen to a single song by them in your entire lifetime, please let it be message to the firing squad.
This is one of the best songs that hip-hop and any other genre may have to offer.
It is an exceptional listening experience.
Good day, muchlove, suki
Love rtj. They go on hard
Gotta like the vid just cause of the shirt my guy. Rtj is ALWAYS sick tho! Listen to this ish on repeat
the best shock value music around comes from run the jewles
DJ Shadow is a freakin genius. Check out UNKLE particularly "When things Explode" or "Burn My Shadow".
love this video! thanks for the react! RTJ
Theres a few good youtube videos on here where like, they answer some questions about the song backstage on fallon? I forget but it was with DJ shadow and the boys and basicially the whole "Picture this I'm a bag of dicks" was kinda just what set the tone for the track and they were like "k we're gonna be goofy with it sorry Shadow" and El-P and Shadow apparently had some hilarious disagreements on the horns which completely make the track imo.
And then theres like a making of the video...video...somewhere around here where the producer and director of the video kinda just said "yo what if like...a political board meeting was just hiphop beef" and did his own thing. RTJ from what I understand just wanted to have some fun with it.
but for the most part, not really ment to be deep, kinda just a light hearted fun "man fuck 2016"
The way I read it is, that RTJ are saying that the suits up top "ruling the world" are no better than two rappers battling it out ~ it's basically just two people power-stancing and throwing sh*t at each other, letting their tempers (the over-the-top lyrics) get the better of them... and once the dust settles ~ guess who has to clear up their mess? All the rest of us regular Joes and Janes (the cleaning lady)... 👉🤛😎
Nobody speak, nobody get choked !! lol
I must, must, MUST reccomend Twiztid to you (horrorcore rap duo). Literally anything would be great to react to.
WTF did I just watch / listen to ? 🤔🤨😰😱💥
🔥🔥🔥🔥👉🏼🤛🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥
Have you reacted to Walking In The Snow by RTJ? DOPE song. The live adult swim version was amazing 👏
I JUST came across this song &am confused af too 😅 love me some Ice Cube though
Check out Blockbuster Night pt 1 by RTJ. That video is crazy.
“Nobody Speak” - Pulling Back the Curtain on Trumpist Politics. The song’s refrain reminds us of the contradictions of the political right’s incoherent demands and the perils of acquiescing to threats against speaking out or buying the notion of respectability defined from the top down. “You wanna hear a good joke? Nobody speak, nobody gets choked.” The “joke” here, of course, is that even capitulating to the silence Trump and his cronies demands of any would-be dissenters-and even skeptical reporters-is no guarantee of safety. In fact, the erasure that results from silence guarantees the opposite of safety. America, Americans, and the world are all choking on our current political discourse, where ignoring the incoming president’s absurd assertions allows him to define reality divorced from fact, but engaging with it tars all claims with the same sense of dubiety. Nothing-whether it be the promised safety of not speaking, or the expression of any hope that Trump might be a “successful” president, to his immediate impeachment-seems free of snowballing consequences leading to less freedom, more inequality, and the spread of violence at home and abroad. It is that eruption of violence resulting from the fallen veil of civilized discourse that the video makes visible. It casts just the kind of light Arendt wrote of in the epigraphic quotes above, and in the darkness of its absence anything is possible." D Trump said As to the UN things will be different after Jan 20 ". Peace out.
I've watched this before, as have you!
I highly recommend reacting to Stan Walker's ultralight beam cover he did with the levites. Trust me, good sir.
Check out Chase Me, by Danger Mouse featuring RTJ.
No my frand, I have never seen this before. I'm experiencing it for the first time with you.
Those two guys are fighting over bullshit, until the maintenance lady walks in. She's got more pressing matters to attend to, she doesn't have the time to throw hands over pointless insults, which instantly makes her the adult in the room. I am guessing that's why they stop, they realize how silly they are being.
You should do ohh la la if you haven’t heard it yet
Like .25 seconds in RTJ!!!!!!
Imagine this being the first thing you ever hear with run the jewels
cause man it was for me and i got hooked ON THE SPOT
"Hunter the hungry Is goin' eat" need to hunt that down. Be a good return to some previous content
that trump line
My husband turned me on to these guys with this doing. This here Goth Wifey ADORES RTJ!!!!!
MrLboyd, please check out "The Truth" by Handsome Boy Modelling Agency. Dont be put off by the band name 😂
The video was based on true events.
It's basically Russia vs America. Since 1960.
I know that l am late to the conversation but l would like to point out that this is Shadow. Feel free to abuse me online. However, if it's not here, it's not me. Use your brain.
Kudos to MrL though. Keep up the good work.
now imagine if they got Aesop rock on the scene
don't think i've ever heard this remix.
😂🎉😢😮😅😊😊😅😮😢🎉😂
