The reason for using a barrel type connector for charging is simply because it will not break as easily as a USB charging port. As such the Minirig deserves to be complimented for that.
The designer, Dave, thought it would be best as the barrel connection is quite robust and could deliver higher voltages (minirig 3 can handle up to 9v, sub 12v) than a micro usb connection which was typicaly used by other BT speakers at the time I think. The other reason was asthetic in that it looked better with the two 3.5mm aux input/output ports.

I'd love to see a vid explaining all the difficulties (not that you need to explain yourself) but to raise awareness of all the considerations surrounding such a project. I think it would be a popular video. I haven't seen all your videos lately so maybe you've already said something in those. The JBL here seems to be lacking some frequencies. The Minirig 3 sounds more airy and vocals more balanced. I heard a sony XB31 the same size as your little JBL & was very impressed especially when activating the "Live" feature within the app. When comparing to the JBL, the JBL sounded like it was playing from within a cardboard box & the bass on the sony...well for the size it was most impressive. Cheers - Karl
j bl did good job making treble and mid alitlle bit darker. may i ask how long do you keep listening to one speaker? i listen 8 hours usually per day on single speaker. so it's not hard for me to pickup charge4 over mini rig's treble and mid

I’d get the Minirig. I own a Charge 3 wich as we know also has a load of intermodulation distortion wich makes the sound unlistenable for me. My Sony Xb30 has none of this while having Oluvs eq setting and the Sony pushes more lower bass while having none of this intermodulation. The Pulse 3 has the same issue, the X2 is without a doubt the best Jbl speaker imo.

Hi; Listen to music in hi-fi quality and the lightest size. bass power is the most. which? minirig 3 or beoplay a1 ..? or which brand model do you recommend? thank you for your help.
Both my minirig 2's, after 1 year, became heavily distorted in bass, with strong rattling of the speaker. At first i thought it might be the loose grill, as it is not fully fixed, but it is the speaker itself distorting. Others have the same issue. The equalizer doesn't help, and Minirig says adding the sub woofer won't take some of the bass function from the minirig 2. If i know Minirig 3 has fixed this problem i will upgrade. Otherwise, how can i purchase from minirig again.

They overdid treble on minirig. Tinging is obvious as is presence boost, similar to flip 4. Maybe you can reduce trable further to make it more natural. On the other hand, so much sound in that little enclosure... Jbl sounds boxy compared.
It would be nice to hear the Minirig 3 against some other speakers, the Helsinki for instance.
