Defo a rudd...from shape, scales and colour....and the way it moved as it swam away.
One rod for me on a venue like that..
    Unfinished business..there..
Offerings to the French rudd gods may be rewarded...😊

4 inch hooklink is too short for them rudd to swallow the bait properly in my humble opinion. When I fish the method feeder I normally use minimum 5 inch hookllink regardless of the species I'm targeting. A lot of quality fish .Great fishing Dean and congrats on the rudd

Spectacular fish Deano. I've always known Rudd to have an upturned mouch for surface feeding. It did look to have that "moody" look to it.
I have caught Bream-Rudd hybrids, and they're lovely looking fish when small.
The Anal fin also gives things away if it's a hybrid.

Great video,, the river cherante ( probably spelt wrong ) , has some belting course fishing, had some good barbel , roach . Saw massive chub well over 6lb . Also seen some enormous crucians rolling in farm ponds to , i bet the potential is brilliant, loads of waters hardly fished !.

The Charente river (Dept 16 + 17) indeed has some excellent coarse fishing. Will be fishing there tomorrow morning. Recently had several Rudd over 2lb.

I wonder if you are just targeting rudd, maybe the feeder is to heavy and tears out the hook in their soft mouths and straight light lead ledgering and more spombing might help ? Or a dirty great pellet waggler float maybe. So refreshing to hear the term allrounder these days too, thanks for sharing your adventure , many thanks .

I caught two massive Rudd in France. Rudd for sure because the water contained no bream. One was caught on the pole whilst I was carp fishing, the other was caught on double “ glow in the dark” plastic maize intended for carp. I couldn’t believe my eyes when it came in, the size of a bream but with bright red fins. The water was full of Rudd at the time because the pike had been fished out for the pot by locals, the population was huge, mostly small but with a few older giants amongst them. That lake, Deux Pierre’s later had catfish put in which munched through them.
Both were over 4lb, immaculate, stunning, pushing British record Rudd size. I thought I had discovered the new monster Rudd Mecca of Europe.
There must be a number of other big carp waters where the fish grow big on beds of pellets and particles used to pull in the carp.
For sure France is an as yet under exploited venue for monster Rudd.
Another lake I fish there, again for carp, there are also perch and tench. The perch go over 4lb, but the tench are amazing with every one it seems into double figures, I had them to 14lb….and nobody targets them at all. In fact the carp anglers moan when they catch one, unbelievable I know.
Double pop up plastic maize accounted for them all, the enterprise stuff which looks yellow but is also glow in the dark.
I would go back to other venues and hunt for monster Tench and Rudd again. Been fishing France for 50 odd years now, mainly for carp. I would imagine there’s a number of carp anglers won’t mind telling you where these huge “ nuisance fish” can be targeted.
There’s amazing venues yet to be fully exploited. So many lakes, so little time 😂
    Good luck Deano

If you're ever not sure about a fish take some photos that clearly show the flanks for counting the scales along the lateral line and the fins/tail splayed out so you can count the rays, that way you can reference the specifics against identification charts. It's very hard to be completely sure by just taking a general look at the features as there can be a lot of similarities between species and a lot of differences caused by age/environment

Love rudd, I have had rudd up to 2lb on lures on canal xul fishing 👍

  • @MarkWintleFishing
    @MarkWintleFishing Před 19 dny

I have caught many thousands of rudd and NONE have been like that, BUT the lateral line scale count is about the right figure for a rudd - if it was a rudd x bream it would be much higher, and it doesn't look like a roach x rudd either. As others have said being able to clearly see the anal fin would help a lot. It actually looks like a rudd x chub, a rare possibility but not one I've ever come across (had roach x chub and bleak x chub).
One point about the term 'carassio'; it's the Italian word for crucian - in French it's 'carassin', but the fish that now get that label in both countries and what you are catching, and that have almost totally displaced crucians in much of mainland Europe are gibel carp so you might want to label them correctly. Sadly gibel carp have been found in the UK, not good news for crucians.

Really nice video, the fishing seems superb 👍👍
I got a question for Dean or the filming crew that were there in France, if someone would like to go fish there at Lac de Monampteuil, do you need a fishing permit and/or do you need a Lake ticket or not? And if you do need anything to fish there, where can one buy a ticket/permit?
Any information about the Venue and how fish there without restrictions would be really appreciated.
Thanks for the great Video and in advance for any information you guys can share.

Dean you are one of my favourite anglers, but that’s not a rudd, look at its mouth up close, it bottom jaw doesn’t protrude its top.
