Thanks for sharing this. I was thinking about getting one of the new bullet journals, but I had reservations about the heavier paper. I'm a fan of the paper in the original A5 hardcover notebooks. I love how it feels to write on that paper with my fine nib fountain pens and it does a good job of displaying the interesting qualities of my ink.

Thank you Azizah. You saved me the time and $$$ from not buying this version. I am a die hard fan of the original 80gm A5 Hardcover Lined Notebooks though and will be staying with that.

120g, a lot of weight. Could you please include some fine and xf nibs while writing next time! Thank you. 😊

I'm not a fountain pen user but I appreciate your honest assessment of fountain pens used on the 120g LT1917 paper. I use ballpoint pens and mildliner pens. I love LT 1917 A5 journals. Ghosting on the 80gsm paper didn't bother me so much, but I wanted to see less ghosting on pages. We're only into the first week of 2022, so only time will tell if I like this thicker paper better than the thinner paper.

Thank you Azizah. You just saved me from buying this notebook. I was looking for a notebook with more pages, and this one was a consideration.

Looking for my next journal, so probably not this one. I found Leuchtturm 1917 80gsm did well for shading and sheen. It does ghost some with darker and wetter inks. A few did bleed through, but not much feathering I found. Ok with pencil too, not so smooth that pencil gets no “grip” on the page. Currently in a Rhodia with 90gsm paper. It is smoother than the Leuchtturm. Shades a bit more than the Leuchtturm and less ghosting and bleeding. A bit smoother paper and pencil is ok, but maybe a bit better on the 1917. One thing I found is some of my pens don’t play well with the smoother paper and the coating Rhodia uses. I get lots of hard starts with some and have to really work to get the ink flowing. Might be the pen or ink, but don’t recall this happening as often with the 1917. Not sure which to go to for next book. I do have some Travelers notebooks on hand, but haven’t decided if I want to go away from A5 size just yet. Need to decide soon as have about 30 pages left. I will see what choices I can come up with. I did like that copper embossing. I think that would look great on the blue Rhodia I have right now. Might also pick up your pink ink. Nice shade, seems almost a red, but just love how it looks in those bottles.

Thank you very much for your review! I am a big fan of Leuchtturm notebooks for all its other properties than displaying ink colors and properties and I had big hopes for the 120g/m^2 notebooks to be able to hold some calligraphy and ink splashing without bleed through and with nice colors, shading and sheen. But I will go for something else now.
A while back, Leuchtturm was having a poll on their instagram feed about, which writing instrument people use in their notebooks. Fountain pens weren't even given as an option. I replied to them with a comment anyway and they then tried to convince me to use something else (which I of course wouldn't).

Thank you for making this, I was considering getting this notebook for fountain pen use, but unlikely I will get it now!

Too bad, because I was hoping this would be FP friendly, but thanks for taking the hit on this one!

What you're testing there is not if it's fountain pen friendly but rather if it's resistant to extensive abuse by ink gushing monsters ;-)

oh wow this is so disappointing to see; I've had my eye on the dotgrid for the last few weeks but I'm glad I dawdled on it because that performance is abysmal for something that'd set me back $38 aud, I'll defs be passing on this for something more (fun)fountain pen friendly.
great video, very helpful, many thanks 💚

Thanks, Azizah-good straight talk, as always. I often feel a wee bit crazy, wondering at those countless favorable reviews of Leuchtturm paper by fountain-folk. I chucked my one Leuchtturm B6+ notebook after less than a page of medium nib writing. Like you, I wanted to love it, but it was just unlovable.
