  • The super versatile UMX Conscendo has quickly become one of my favourite small planes. Amazingly capable , BUT - Be careful, it might just be a little too fast for novice flyers. When you start to become comfortable with the 3s speed you just find that it is very easy to lose orientation with this little bird.
'Jam the sticks' and this things becomes fast and furious which is an absolute blast but on more than one occasion i found myself 'guessing' orientation which is something that will get you out of a panic situation provided you have enough experience to keep a cool head.
I know some of you will say that you cant go wrong by just hitting the 'safe select' switch as well as the distinctive strips on the underside of the plane and i agree that they will definately help in most situations but if you are a novice pilot and chose to purchase this great plane, my simple advice to -
    (1) Build your speed/manouvering skills super slowly
    (2) Start with 2 s option but make your you maintain a proper c of g. or the plane will be tail heavy
    (3) Get really comfortable with finding the 'safe select/stabilise' button without having to look for it.
    (4) If things seem to get abit out of hand, try to stay calm, reduce throttle to 40% to slow things down and try to keep a visual memory of the planes orientation - ie if she was flying in abig large arc to the left, she is probably still on that trajectory for the next few moments.
    (5) Related to the last point - lock you eyes on the part of the sky that you were flying in- dont panic and go looking at your radio - this will make it much harder to relocate your last flying spot .
    (6) Given that the plane is so small, maybe consider Hi Vis paint or adhesive on the top or bottom to help with orientation.
    Happy Flying

I think it's a great first plane or trainer that is very versatile (gliding to sport flying). This little plane in safe mode Flys worlds better than any trainer plane made 10 to 20 years ago. It basically Flys itself in safe mode. I would say if your a beginner then I would suggest the dx6 or higher programmable radio. So you can temper the throws and expo if needed or lessen them, as well as add the flapperons or spoiler ons. And with that story on 2s and once your comfortable flying out of sage then maybe try a 3s.

What does Throws and expo s mean and what do they do? I am new to the hobby and just bought this plane

    • @rcpilots1291

@@Jeroenvdb88 throw is how far the servos move, the more ‘throw’ the more severe the reaction of that particular servo, “expo” is the amount of elasticity/smoothness to your input. High expo makes stick inputs more gentle . 😎

I can testify to the fact that you need to keep it close. Lost mine on a very windy day when I could not figure out orientation, even in Safe mode. Flew away and never found. Another pilot lost a UMX Timber same way a few minutes later.

Ah crikey, that’s the worst outcome when they fly out of range, I’ve lost more than one plane just like that, things happen so fast with these small little planes, that’s why I put high viz tape of one side to help with orientation- Best of luck next time 👍

    It's an awesome beginner plane.
Beginners, keep it in full safe.
If you can't control yourself on the throttle, set the transmitter to only go a max of 70%, add it to a switch if you can.
Beginners should also not fly on a windy day like this.
That's a good tip to check CG, especially when using different size batteries. But really CG should always be checked after every battery change.

It's a glider, for heaven's sakes! Or, more precisely, a self-launch motor glider. I don't think it's intended for zooming around the sky and cutting whifferdils at full throttle. If that is your game, get a different plane, one that is more suited to that kind of flying.

You CAN fly on 2s, you know. Also, a beginner, a windy day, and a UMX on 3s is an accident waiting to happen.

Yes! It flies amazing so as long as you have any kind of self-control you don't have to go super fast. It is a very well behaved aircraft.
