Basic alignment of the 4-3 defense when they play 7 men in the box. You can read discussions of this and more at the chalk talk board at giantsfans.net
I only use the term "nose" when I have defensive tackle lined up over the center, for example the 3-4, or 4-3 over. the base 4-3 they're just the weak side and strong side Defensive Tackle.
The strong is in reference to where the strong side of their offensive line is... i.e. if their tight end is lined up to OUR left, then they would be in "strong left" and the Sam/Strong backer would line up on OUR left (or the linebacker already in that position would take on the "strong role"). Doesn't necessarily mean that the Sam LB is any stronger than the Will.
Im not sure if its just us but my teams Sam goes maybe a yard to the left of right of the far left or right lineman and a yard or two of the line of scrimmage is their any big differense in the effectiveness of this defense versus what he shows here? (I am sam so I was just wondering)
it makes sense to have you Sam on the weak side, it's backwards, because there's less support on the weak side, your better OLB will play weak side and have more responsibility..
Thanks for this. I a Brit learning football and this helps me understand the basics!
Thank coach
