Hey everyone
Burto & I are going to drop some mid week episodes here and there if people are interested, little how to/DIY videos. Let me know your thoughts on this one, more or less info and any topics/jobs you want us to do in the future.
Thank you!
Yeah and do swivel hubs next
Uni joints
Fixing death wobble - The cause and various ways to fix
@josfamily yeah so many old wives tales like removing the shims etc.
Its more likely the controll arm bushes. All depends on the bushings weather on not you use the cambered ones etc.
May as well do the control arm bushes while your at it and not on a hoist they are a prick lol i used a ratchet strap to bring it back into position.
just like this are perfect. im always about more info the better. simple general maintenance once are great. all the way to diff locker installs and more advanced videos
Top Tip: Use an old egg carton to lay your parts out, easy to pick up and move out the way especially with other people walking about and around the work area. I've using egg cartons for over 40 years when pulling and cleaning carbs on motorbikes. I start at top left of whatever I'm pulling apart and go around from there, good if different sized fasteners etc. Cheers Gaz
Cheers for the tip mate!
That's a top idea, love it as a concept.
I always have a couple of the egg cartons in the kit to keep the crap/dirt/etc out of parts in a on the go fix as well in normal maintenance, cheers@@ianweal3081
Im a 68 year old mechanic and i live in a horror movie watching younger mechanics with no idea ( literally ). It is so refreshing to see a young person with both knowledge and care in what they are doing.
Love this style of video. No fancy edits and what not. Learning heaps too. Burto is a wealth of knowledge
Glad you enjoyed it!
Since Burton has joined the Chanel it’s gotten even better. Videos like this are awesome. Camping and some mechanical tips on the one Chanel. Yes please. Keep it up
Best wheel bearing tutorial on youtube that I've watched. Very detailed. Thanks boy's
Great video guys, think new DIY mid week videos fantastic idea. Very helpful to many I would say. Loving your work boys you’re a great team.
Awesome! Thank you!
you should do a Q&A with Burto about Burto.
Nice work boys. I've helped a few young blokes out cause they didn't know and weren't sure how, there apparently hasn't been a good detailed YT ep. Good to see you guys showing how it's really done.
awesome vid Burto, great rundown on bearing replacement💪
Thanks! 👍
Great stuff boys👍
I also throw the inner race in the freezer for half an hour, it then drops into the hub nice an easy with barely a tap...
That was awesome detail. Well done. Looking forward to doing mine with confidence now.
Cheers mate!
Handy vid guys thanks
Cool Ep guys.
Good job, thanks for sharing.
Well done great in depth vid on doing wheel bearings.
Cheers mate
Nice one! More of those please
17:00 when you go to install new cups and you don’t have a driver kit take your old cup, quick slice with an angle grinder and you have a perfectly sized driver. Get real fancy and weld a handle on it if you’re keen!
Bloody awesome video by the way lads!
That was great! I do know how to do all of this but I can see how this would help somebody out. Only thing extra I would have liked to see would have been Burto cleaning his greasy prints off the rotor disc.
Cheers mate!
Finally a real mechanic does what I do when I take bits off my car…clean it!!!
Nice vid
Great stuff Burto. I don't own a pootrol but lets face it most vehicles are very similar and the methods are all the pretty much the same. Keep them coming guys.
Thanks mate
Berto quality tuition 👍👍
Awesome work. Luv the mid-week tutorial you both make a great team. Not sure if it is worth some VLOGs on your typical break downs - going through the fault-finding process is always going to help.
Cheers mate!
Great tutorial!
Thank you!
Fark yeah ! Tuesday arvo special!
Good video and great tutorial. The midweek stuff sounds good.
You should have the invoice today mate for all the advertising in this episode 😉
@@TylerThompson90 sounds fair, I’ll check the spam folder 😂😂.
The patrol is very similar to other vehicles as well.
I know my d22 is very similar. If not the same.
Anyways good to see a mid week video lads keep up the good work 👍🏽
Being somebody that knows nothing about mechanics that was really interesting cheers burdo and you TT 👍🏻🏴
Burto
Excellent
Just checking you got inner seal direction right - on my car and as I've been led to believe the double rubber lip and thin metal edge will be facing bearing. And the bigger single rubber lip and wider metal edge is facing the swivel hub. Great vid btw - thankyou! Just need this clarification.
years ago with my boat trailer i would always "pre grease/pack" a set of bearings the vacuum seal them. Kept the pre greased bearings with the boat with a tub of extra grease...... im now doing the same with the 79. Vacuum sealed, pre greased bearing" and a small tub of extra grease.... saves a lot of dirty work roadside.
Yeah definitely a good idea!
Old bearing races, cut through with a grinder then become smaller diameter, which when flipped over make a fantastic drift to drive in new races.
Shoulda called this Ep
BIRTO'S BEARING BASH
Top shelf ..👍
Another thing to check is your panhard bolts, my Patrol had the 60km wobbles for months until clicked and checked the panhard, the washer just had a tiny bit of play. One turn of the socket and it was fixed!!
Yeah good tip mate!
Good Video thanks. I would like to see a brake bleeding video if possible..
Great episode guys Tyler you should run a competition win Burto for a week I could use him in my shed just lock him in feed him beer and peanuts through the window 😁 cheers legends ☺️
Just a query to Burto.
Regarding the locking ring and 2 screws.
I thought if the holes were misaligned by about half a hole you just pulled lock ring back off, rotate 180° on splines and that moved the alignment a half a hole basically.
Certain that's how I've done it in the past.
Aside from that great content, viewers obviously loved it according to comments.
Regards, Wealie.
My 100 series bearings are massive like that, I didn’t realize till a year later most rigs have tiny wheel bearings compared.
I always forget to buy new spindle needle bearings when i change a cv every 3 years.
Have you tried using the upgraded heavy duty inner hub seals instead of the oem ones?
They do a way way better job of keeping water out. The oem seals are flimsy as hell.
Nice
Tip for putting in races, put them in a freezer first and heat the hub up with a heat gun, less brute force required.
Cheers for the tip mate
28:20 In 55 years of doing brake jobs I've never used loktite on any brake system bolts. Never had one come loose. Bloody Patrols are good in so many ways, I just wish they came with bigger front wheel bearings - they are too small and too close together in the hubs, and they let water in far too easily. My Patrol got it's first new bearings at 18,000k, the factory must have been on an accountant's penny pinching exercise, because there was almost no grease in them. The two diffs and transfer case had almost no oil in them - couldn't reach the oil with my long skinny finger..... Have done them twice more since, 30,000k each time with my grease quantity. Need to check them again now after another Simpson crossing with lots of mud and High Country river crossings.
Im laughing because 2 weeks ago i just did all this on my GQ, including replacing the drivers side stub axle because the bearing welded itself to it and i damaged the stub trying to get the bearing off. Sadly i had to wait for the stub to arrive so all my parts got put into the garage and it was a fun jigsaw working it out on reinstall.
For the races, i used the old one and just knocked it back out with a little tap. I will get a bearing kit for next time though.
Gq and gu are slightly different just in the locking nut and washer setup
My GQ is a 91 and has the early style locknut set up... and it sucks balls trying to get the right tension on the bearings, if they are too tight they tend to get warm...
Yeah okay definitely doesn't sound as good
Excellent vid man 👍.
What about the rear ones are they the same/similar?. Or is there a press needed?
Yeah very different on the rear ones on the Patrol mate, need a special tool/press but also rarely need to be serviced/changed. Will often last the lifetime of the vehicle
@@TylerThompson90
Oh cool man 👍. I’ve got 400K on my 04 GU coily ute since i bought it brand new & always wondered about them? Front ones I’ve replaced 2-3times. Thanks for ya response mate, grouse information 👍👍
hey champ you mentioned the company one stop 4x4 shop in syd tho i can only see one in maitland???
Yeah they moved to Maitland a few months back mate
More vid drops, even some DIY service drops........absolutely.
Your trucks looks sick 🤙
I've known for a while now that i need a suspension replacement / upgrade upgrade.
Was told today the gearbox needs to come out.
I'm about to cry......🙈
Have a good one 🕶🤙👍
👌
Why do you have a flange on the end of your knob...
So your hand doesn't slip off
Why NOT use marine grease?
I have a gq with a gu locking kit which I do recommend to everyone who doesn't .
Also isn't there ment to be an egg ring after the gearset?
It's all in there if you didn't watch the whole thing
@@Nick-sd7um yeah I ended up seeing it I just done mine a slightly different way
I thought you completely rebuilt these axles and now you have rooted wheel bearings
Wheel bearings need regular replacement and maintenance when running big tyres, wide off set and doing lots of 4wding/mud/water etc. To get 12 months out of them is pretty good
Hammer choker
Father Xmas?
33:02 Burto long hair 33:34 Burto hair cut on the sides 34:29 hair back again 🤔Hmm
why not use burtos expertise to help the diy guys n gals out there. no matter the make or the age of the vehicle.
Judging Nick's haircut, this is a warehoused VLOG - nothing wrong with that. Nevertheless, it was very informative. Thank you.
