    I’ve been really struggling with picking a major for college and this video was a HUGE help!!! Anthropology is the only thing that really feels right, but i wasn’t sure about the practicality of it. This video was reassuring :))) . It’s nice to know that I can study something that interests me and still be stable financially.

    Thanks for making anthropology visible to people inside and outside the profession. Hopefully there will be other video stories among the anthropology associations in non-English speaking countries, too, since the task of making anthropology visible and present in current events and discussion is not a task limited to English speakers! The production values are not Hollywood or over-produced commercial paced and amplified. But then, somebody has to put the focus on the lives and experiences of the featured speakers. I look forward to more vignettes from the pool of satisfying job experiences among people who think and see our times through the wide-angle, macro, and time-lapse lens of anthropology.

      Will you be so kind as to reccommend books on anthrolopoly for beginners? I'm considering graduate studies but not sure what exactly I'm interested in. Anthropology, psychology, linguistics, storytelling, research - those are some of the things I'm interested in. Thank you!

    All I have to say is that I wish the audio was mixed and recorded better. I had to watch this for a gen ed. The speakers and everything were great but the audio kept switching sides in my headphones depending on the speaker. They can turn a one sided stereo recording into a mono recording for those and fix the video to have it sound centered again nbd. Otherwise, it was good to watch. I like making documentaries and would love to make one about anthropologists sometime!

    I have a degree in funeral service/mortuary science and am pursuing a degree in biological anthropology starting next semester. The forensic anthropology segment was extremely helpful and sounds like something I’d love to do.
    So, speaking of which, does anyone know if there are any mortuary archaeology fields or specialties? Archaeology has been a passion of mine for years, and is another thing I’ve been looking into career-wise.

    Something that’s not really touched on in this video that is my moms major concern in me wanting to enter this area. What’re the statistics on finding anthropology jobs with just an Bchelors degree as opposed to needing a masters or PhD?

    • @AlmaAmbitious
      @AlmaAmbitious Před 3 lety +5

      Hey! I'm a bit late so this may not even be a question you have anymore (and I'm also making an assumption here that you're American so forgive me if I'm wrong). For jobs I've been interested in my worry was that I'll def need a Masters as well but in the states they can be so expensive. My recommendation is if you are getting a masters in anthropology to do it abroad because it is so much cheaper often times for the same quality of education if not better.

    The pre-k issue goes beyond brain development. Kids who are in stable homes and go to pre-k are affected negatively. Kids in unstable home s who go to pre-k tend to fare better. This is a mistake of focusing on only one factor.

    This video uses propaganda tactics and misuses data to sell Anthropology to prospective majors and the public. If you want to do Anthropology there are lots of majors that Anthropologists claim to be just like but these other degrees are much better sciences to practice, and likely more useful degrees for earning. look into Archeology, Psychometrics, and Behavioral Economics for a more scientifically rigorous degree, or various History degrees for more academic and education oriented degrees.
