  • People want to know is Koh Tao safe in 2024 to visit or travel. A quick search on CZcams will show you that there is a dark side attached to the popular Thai island known as Koh Tao. This is lead to it being labeled Death Island or Murder Island by some. It is always unfortunate when a traveller goes abroad on holiday but never comes home alive. Due to this stigma and related tragedies people are genuinely curious about their safety while on Koh Tao. I do my best to share my experience with safety on Koh Tao.

    There’s a rich psycho killer on the loose in there and everyone knows it especially the local but they will cover it.

    I was there last year and it was very dark in the night. The hotel lady said that the whole strip of land belongs to a single thai family that lives in the top of the hill. This gave me weird vibes and i decided to leave early.

      They run the place. Glad you left early. Always trust your gut. The number of unsolved murders-per capita-on this 8 square mile island…something is rotten and it ain’t in Denmark.

    I appreciate your take as I don't like to just believe the fear push that can happen, however, there are a lot of personal accounts. First, the deaths that occurred and then a news reporter that from Chiang Mai that was told she basically had to leave because she wrote a piece on the deaths. Then some reports of a Thai guy being extremely aggressive, following and hitting one farang and running after another one and throwing a bottle at him. Also, a guy that got extorted by mafia. Now did I see anything for actual real, no. What would be the purpose of these people telling these stories if they weren't true? Too many stories I think for it to be untrue. Still, I will wait and see what happens with this. Sounded like the deaths got swept under the carpet, so there seems to be corruption. I could be wrong, but I think I will stay clear for now.

      Ah yes I do remember acknowledging that. So as you know if you walk down streets in London of New York City you will hear similar stories of such horrors. Truly tragic for all those involved and their families. I personally felt safe walking around that area in the day time and at night.

      @@islandhoppertvhighlightsthe difference is, the island of Koh Tao is only like 8 sq miles. Big difference when comparing murder rates of New York City lol.
      Also, population. NYC has over 10 million residents.

    If you're scared don't go, those who have been there know how special the place is... 300 000 visitors per year, imagine how busy it would be if there was no bad press. I love Koh Tao, always will!

    I've been to Ko Tao in 2016 and it was awesome. Going back there in January! Just watch out on the steep hills on the scooters ;)

    This resort is gorgeous and quiet too....I would feel safe there. Motorbike, boating, swimming, etc. Same planet, different world. About the culture and respect. I found showing kindness and being genuinely interested in others cultures is very important in world travel. The beaches there and pool at the resort look so relaxing....I'm ready for the next tour.

    not just on youtube mate , its common knowledge that 30 ppl have been murdered there , even people found hanged in their rooms with hands tied behind their back and dismissed by local police as suicide? do some more research bud before jumping on here saying that place is safe

    • @islandhoppertvhighlights
      @islandhoppertvhighlights  Před měsícem +1

      No place is totally safe? Not one place on earth. Where are you from? If we check the crime statistics would we see some crime for the location you are at? People should always exercise caution in foreign countries of course. My point was 300,000 people visit the island every year. And if you look at the statistics many people come and go without incident. With the most dangerous thing people do on that island is wreck a moped scooter.

    Well guys I was on Tao few months ago. Hotel owner was “mafia” style and I could feel that wibe so it is not a place to get into a fight… I guess you have this in other places like Brasil etc.. But there were too many murderers here to speak like you speak and joke about it as to respect to 20 poor yang people that stayed on this island forewer as get into a fight with local mafia or some local crazy rapist . I got dengue fewer here to mantion. Sadly the Tao was the best place I saw in Thailand but ended not good for me, so many mosquitos…

  • @sebastianhorbushko8703

    To openly speak like you do and to claim this Island is completely safe is somewhat bias. 24 deaths in only a 10 year period on a small Island is no coincidence! Travel at your own peril but as always, show respect and stay within your limits.

    • @islandhoppertvhighlights
      @islandhoppertvhighlights  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Okay so I do agree that when traveling here as with any place you should exercise caution as you would in Bangkok or Phuket etc. now let’s say this how many people visit Koh Tao per year? 500,000 people according to google. So my point was hundreds of thousands of people come to Koh Tao every year without incident.

    This poor man hasn't got a clue.
    I could give him one sentence to say to anyone working in a bar or diving resort and he'd be lucky to leave the island alive.
    This poor guy is clueless.

      I’ve been here in Koh Tao for months. I’m from LA & NYC. I’ve literally been attacked by a group of 6 people for no reason there and got charged for defending myself.
      Don’t act entitled and you’ll likely be fine here. There’s always the off chance that you run into some bad folks at night but that’s Bangkok and a lot of places too.
      Otherwise it’s paradise and you’d never know without reading these outlandish CZcams comments.
      It’s not a common place thing but stuff does happen

    DANGEROUS?!?! REALLY?!?! Koh Tao is one of the most easy going, laid back places in Thailand. Any place can be dangerous if you act like an ASS...but you would have to work hard on that island to get into trouble!!!

      Typical tourist ignorance, you do know that there’s a Rich psychopath killer there on the loose? You look at someone wrong, you do something wrong thats it you’re dead.

  • @jasonw1569
    @jasonw1569 Před měsícem +1

    I think the issue is, and this is where he misses the point entirely, no other place in Thailand has had 24 high profile murdered tourists in 10 years followed by a clearly obvious coverup by local officials.
    Particularly since these murders are happening in such a small community of several thousand permanent residents and not in a big city like Bangkok with over 10.5 milliion people.
    Sure it's completely safe in as far as you can be murdered anywhere. The fact that 3-500000 tourists haven't been murdered Clinton-style, made to look like suicides with hands tied behind there backs, still doesn't detract from those that were.
    There's seven mafia families that run Koh Phangan and no word of murdered tourists happenings over there. It's just sloppy in a professional sense no matter how you look at it.
    In the same way shark attacks are extremely rare, far more rare than being hit by lightning; but it still sucks when it happens to you. Also I find it interesting that he was kinda talking in a hushed tone the whole time, when normally he's bit more gregarious in his other videos.

      I get the point in fact for years I had been avoiding Koh Tao stopping at Samui or Pha Ngan. So I came here to scope it out and actually felt relaxed the whole time while being mindful to not get too drunk or aggressive with locals. Does that make sense?
