I'm just being a little bit. Facetious devil's advocate but if this town had never seen a crossdresser and it was to them inconceivable that John would wear a wig from how they knew him, it probably didn't even cross their mind. They probably just thought that they looked very, very similar and we're trying to figure out like who the hell the woman was just because of this ever. So slight group psychosis of expected reality and how they see the world that possibility of him in a wig just didn't cross their minds
