      and the death strike too. But i might found a niche usefulness for it . Stick on your home obj and target the home obj of your opponent if it is held by lone operative it doesn`t matter you can still kill lone operatives. As per rules written you do not nominate a target and anything 6" of marker get hit

    It might be interesting to see an All Artillery List battle report.
    3x Basilisks, Manticores, Medusas, Earthshakers, maybe even a Praetor, give all the infantry squads mortars, some Attachés, and a few Scout Sentinels for full on effectiveness. You'll have a force that can pick apart your opponent's army back to front and make it impossible to hold their home objectives or close the distance to your line.

    • @ColonelHoganStalag13
      @ColonelHoganStalag13 Před 3 měsíci +3

      And with some of these artillery being _regiment,_ then they can be brought back. That increases the headache for an opponent who has to play whack a mole and split up fire between the tougher targets like Basilisks that don't get to come back or the weaker targets like mortars or Earthshaker carriage guns that do get to come back.

    • @Rexir2

      The inherent problem with an all-arty list that none if your units wants to expose themselves, but they kinda need to in order to move onto objectives and complete secondaries.
      I've typed up a list that leans heavily into artillery with creed, straken, a 2-order platoon command squad, 40 catachans, 40 infantry squads, 2 cyclopses, 18 scout sentinels, 3 pairs of bombast field ordinance batteries and 3 basilisks; Mordian says it could be very competitive

      @@Rexir2Are you allowed to run 18 scout sentinels though? I thought it was a max of 3 units of 3 scouts sentinels (so 9) due to the so called rule of three. Or do you mean 9 armoured sentinels with the 9 scouts?

  • @mastergmoore
    @mastergmoore Před 3 měsíci +12

    The FOB is definitely a sleeper Mordian. It has the Regimental keyword. It can take infantry orders and come back with reinforcements. Imagine bringing a battery back on your opponents home objective behind with a platoon of scions deep striking. I’d definitely suggest taking 2 batteries. One to hold the back for IF and one for AT.

      So does the medusa though! Bringing back a medusa is hilarious. I think the point is though, that if we're losing artillery pieces and we'd rather have them back and not a 20 man Krieg blob to secure the mess in our deployment zone, then maybe we need to be worrying about other things. lmao

      Why would you target a basilisk or manticore with FoF when you can attach Creed to an Infantry Squad with a mortar and target your own squad with said mortar? 48" of range should be more than enough in most cases to attack anything (attack doesn't even need to hit, you just need to resolve your attacks) and then your basilisks and manticores will get an extra pip of AP on that enemy unit.

    Would love to see a data sheet ability for heavy weapon squads, or even an order, called “dig in.” Movement goes to 0, but they get a 5+ invuln. That would still be vulnerable to any concentrated fire, even small arms, but would be protected from incidental fire. A single split fire bolter wouldn’t do it

      You don't need anything bar field ordnance tbf. If you have ursella creed and scout sentinels you can get them down to hitting on 2+ with sustained and lethal hits, and blast. Hitting on 2's and all 6's counting as auto wound you can do a lot of damage. I run 2 squads with 4 guns and haven't had an issue. I find people get scared of basilisks cause of the movement penalty so they rush that and the basilisk die easily. I don't have that focus fire issue with my ordnance guns

    I always struggle to want more than 1 indirect unit. I’ve run 3 Earthshakers, and they do well enough but never really do anything exceptional. 1 unit lets you hit sneaky units or backfield objectives, but more than that seems unnecessary. I may be very wrong. I kinda think Creed, a mortar squad, and 2 FOBs with bombasts could be good for killing marines. Creed uses FOF on the mortar and orders take aim on the bombasts, then use bombasts to target marine type units with AP2 damage 2 shots wounding in 3’s. Scout sentinel in there and could be hitting on 3’s retooling 1’s. Just seems like a large point sink. 415 points.

    • @DaLonelySheperd
      @DaLonelySheperd Před 3 měsíci +1

      let me present you with this: having a strong indirect fire core is the purpose of our army.
      it gives you more turns of firing, it gives you an ability to reach parts of the board in late game, etc.
      taking 4 Artillery units is the minimum for a 3k army imo, and a goldilocks' amount for 2k

    When I use artillery. It will be a basilisk, a manticore, and 2 scout scentinals. If I have extra points to throw at the artillery it will be a field gun or 4. I fight a lot of MeQ's. Wounding on 4 or 5 is no good. If you are fighting a T3 army the mortars will do better for you than a field gun. A regular mortar will make the guardians, or avengers arch threw the air just fine. Orcs not so much, but Ive had a grot get a good 40-50 feet up into the air
    I miss the days of having to guess the range of a mortar shot. Salvo barrages and whatnot. Can you still field a mole mortar?, or a thudd gun?

  • @operator9858
    @operator9858 Před 2 měsíci

    certainly interesting but you could do a whole nother segment on just how you use them in lists. like how if you are trying to include orders for medusa's its easy enough to find an officer that can provide 1 or 2 orders but trying to do groups of 3 means you either have to take a 2nd officer or you have to run leon and if you are going to take leon you might as well take manticore platforms that only he can give orders and save 100 points over 3 manticores even with the added cost of including leon who now gives you enough extra cp to give you expert bombardiers every turn.
    heck mortars? 3 teams of mortars are more efficient then 2 teams with orders altho for one team of infantry or carriage based artillery you can always give a command squad grand strat meaning you can likely get orders for only 15 as opposed to 45 for a castellen etc.
    basilisk on the other hand you might as well just take them as tracked units as its basically the equivalent of having the carriage with an officer included for only 25 points more and as mentioned its more mobile and tougher to boot.
    personally im wanting to try 2 medusa carriages and castellan with grand strat and then 2 basilisks.

  • @Mt-zr5bf

    I Like to build command blobs with infantry Squad, Platoon command squad and a Hero and put them in the rear and give the command squad and the Platon mortars, so you have practicaly a mortar heavy weapon Squad for free and it makes that the rear guard command can participate in the shooting phase.
    And if you have an opponent who wants to play with legends (like Marines and their beloved Leviathan or deredeo dreadnoughts) i think the Armageddon Medusa is the best Artillery, so much punch for so cheap points, for basicly indirict fire lascanons.

    The biggest problem of all indirect weapons in 40k is, that they have the risk for causing unfun uninteractive games. "I shoot this with that now" without movements, risk or counterplay involved can be very meh. Doesn't have to be, but it happenend to me (on both sides of the barrel).
    For guard I would wish for worse artillery without. But better artillery with a spotter. That would open up a lot of play around positioning and movement of the spotters (again for both sides)

    I think Heavy weapon squad should be able to attach to infantry squads;
    -Cover fire would protect against charges
    -Would increase survivality in a blob of 10-20
    -Why Command squad have to be attached and not being alone? ....Makes sense ... because its purpose it to be enforcing infantry,.

      My key point it's about mixing the abilities plus gear :
      Cadia stands(+1order)- Shock troops- Covering fire.
      That mix has the tools to go straight to objectives dealing with any type of foe(infantry , vehicle etc) just in case of being counter attacked , they could respond with a buffed overwatch.
