Longtime customers, walkers bid farewell to Springfield’s Eastfield Mall

one of the longest running shopping malls in western Mass. is closing its doors and on Friday, people in the community decided to walk around for one final time

Sat on Santa’s lap in that mall.
Got haircuts. Food court. Dream Machine. Escalator play. Christmas shopping. Friendly’s. Orange Julius in front of McCrory’s, Glasses, Cinema, St Patty’s at Donovan’s, throwing coins in the fountain & making wishes. Bought an engagement ring, Pepperidge farms stand, Chess King, Casual Male, Steve & Barry’s, The record store that was up by Anderson Little I got my 1st suit, top coat and cashmere scarf. Photos downstairs at Sears. Walking around those concrete circles in front of Steiger’s, Holding both my parents hands as a small child, and holding both my children’s hands as an adult. Driving there with my friends as a teenager in our own cars feeling free.
Thom McAn, Radio Shack. Those little yipping toy puppies that would do a backflip in front of Kay Bee toys or the ball with the raccoon tail rolling around, or the penguins that would climb the stairs and slide back down. 😢Happy memories. Sad to say goodbye.
