Whats a phone you would like to see me teardown and assess?
Galaxy z flip
One Plus 8T
Samsung Galaxy A51 would be neat.
Mi 10 Ultra, the version with the back outlining the internals.
Any flipping or foldable phone
Glad to see this cleared up and that these phones seem very repairable.
Infact they made it more repairable by Modifying the Charging Port.
@@mokujin4076 this is fact
Samsung isn't stupid or greedy
@@ShinkuGouki Samsung also has a hand in much more markets than Apple. Repairability is a pro of the Android platform (typically) and they stand to make more money by playing to this market since they already have a core audience for their products that appreciates the repairability.

Just got my S20+ today, happy to see that Samsung still supports 3rd party repairs like this. When you pay for a phone, you should be able to use it and repair it however you see fit.
Ayee good choice. I have the same phone. The cameras are soo good 👍👍
Now if they could do the same with software only reason I stay with Apple I can afford to just stay in warranty
@@matt2m they extended software updates to 3 years which is already pretty good
@@julian5857 isn't that only for the note 20 and note 20 ultra?
I will NEVER buy anything iPhone 12 and up due to Apple killing 3rd party support, they are becoming worse and worse every day.

@@e39purist89 so what? May have been irrelevant but it doesn’t really matter
I do love these kinds of videos, no one else seems to consider repairability! Thank you hugh!
Samsung is miles ahead of apple at the moment. Just look at this flawless engineering. Very clean placement of the modules, no countless metal plates to guard cables. Very impressive.
I should point out that while some other channels do definitely consider reparability to an extent I've never seen a channel that goes so in depth in testing the reparability, most seem to concentrate on specs, if they mention reparability at all.
With screws the same length and head type it’s as thought the phone wasn’t engineered by psychopaths (Apple).
Exactly.
Not to defend Apple in any way because I absolutely hate that brand, but different types of screws are not necessarily linked to the design by the brand. Parts are manufactured and put together all over the world, and I dont think the different factories talk to each other about what screw size to choose. One factory uses a smaller one bc it fits better, and the next one might use bigger screws bc they are easier to take out and so on. So its possible that Apple didnt plan this mess, but I think they purposely didnt do anything against because they probably could have told each factory what screws to use.
In the end, Apple mightnot have designed it that way, but they definetly didnt do anything to prevent it.
And atleast the new Samsung's can be repaired by us samsung users or 3rd parties. Unlike apple
@@Chrispack93 B R U H
@@Chrispack93 not sure if it's done with phones but on some laptops i've seen a printout (on metal or plastic) what kind of screw should be there. If the screws get mixed up in the assembly process or are different length from the factory (beyond the tolerances that everyone uses) then that would prove that iphones aee all marketing and none quality.
Apple: 2 screws different heads
Samsung: 70 screws all same head
Apple : locking down all 20 screws to stop third party repair
Samsung : all 70 screws same, not locked, and buyable from anywhere
Samsung: Using more screws to make components coming loose inside the phone from vibration much less likely.
It's almost as if they engineered a phone to reduce the amount of e-waste it generates, unlike Apple.
Lol saving the environment by not including charging brick

Nice review, good to see that the Galaxy S series isn't paired down in any way!
Can you do the same assessment on the A51? The A51 seems to be a very good mid range phone and is very popular.
Omg!! Hugh gave you a heart
He should do the A71 as well
Im looking at the A series, its something very few people pay attention to but not everyone can spend $300+ on a phone.
S20 Ultra is paired down!
I think A51 has serialized the fingerprint scanner with the screen. The fingerprint scanner won't be working if you change the screen.
Geez I was always curious what was inside the S20. I got my answer here. I am glad you got the skills here Hugh. Always fun to see your success process. Nice work!

Yeah no they aren't
They put an inferior processor "exynos" in and sell it to certain other markets including Australia and the UK for the same price as the one with the better Snapdragon processor

Probably all of the above!

@@e39purist89 I said that already.
The fact that he didn't know about the temp sensor is worrying
Just an incompetent technician. Not sure what an Apple fanboy would get out of making up this lie since they aren't Apple themselves.

Really glad to see Samsung hasnt followed Apple's path of errors.

@User Things wear out. My S8 has never been dropped, but its a 4 year old phone that gets used every single day. I had to replace the battery. If I'd had a similar era iPhone I'd have been shafted.

I love your videos Hugh! You have taught me a lot!
Who needs Zack when we have this Aussie wallaby doing unboxings and proper teardowns.
We still need him for the scratch and bend test
@@shaheerburney398 no we don’t, Zack is not the be all and end all of teardowns, and this is what I don’t understand about the CZcams mobile phone community. It’s just a teardown which any of these big CZcamsrs can do from Hugh and ifixit, to MKBHD, Arun of MrWhoseTheBoss, EAP, TechNick, even Unbox Therapy and Linus Tech Tips could do it and cannibalise Zack’s channel and views.
Most of them have the kits and ability to get Mohs picks easily, most of them post videos of and clearly obtain new phones far earlier than Zack does, why haven’t I seen any of them do it?

@@shaheerburney398 ok, but that’s not the point I was making. I’m not belittling the content, but just presenting an observation that from what I’ve seen for the past few years on CZcams, Zack has this teardown video market all to himself and I’m surprised that nobody else has tried to do the same thing.
Usually on CZcams when there’s a genre of video that has the potential to gain millions of views and ad revenue, plenty of channels try to replicate said genres to get traffic and ad revenue to their own channels.
To those who brought this over the iPhone, cherish the headphones and charge like never before 😂😂😂

Executivebird yeah I like the iPhone because of the speed and optimization but Samsung is not bad either it’s just my preference
With nearly 3500 hours of on screen and 400 charging cycles the S20+ is my best phone to date. There is no discernable battery loss or screen dimming.
Robert Polkamp I’ve had my iPhone for 2 years and I’ve put heavy use and haven’t replaced a thing

What do you think of France’s new repairability score scheme
Hugh, glad to see you start working on new devices, it's nice bonus.
Personally I prefer seeing wrecked devices being turned new or functional.
One great tip for easily separating the glue while you are prying it with a pick is to put a drop or two of isopropyl alcohol on the part of a pick that is at the entrance of the phone and the alcohol will dissolve the glue almost instantly. Just don't pry it too hard or too quickly so that the LCD or the back cover doesn't crack.
At least we got a "free" charger with a "free" airphones with the s20
Unfortunately, now that Apple is doing it so will other companies. Sucks man.

As a Samsung Care tech I can promise you and rest assure you heating the back glass on your heat plate and reapplying the back glass and pressing the device will seal the device water tight. As there are times rework kits are not available this method has been used in multiple shops. Your backglass adhesive still looked completely intact.
This is coming from an Apple fan boy, I love how Samsung’s phones are built on the inside because their fun to work on
Plastic: you will get to know my price when your glass back panel breaks.

Just wondering what adhesive would recommend
@Sam Howarth most of the adhesive templates are useless but was wondering about the b7000
You can either use T7000 or B7000 if precut adhesives aren't available. Used it on my old S7 edge.
@@therealdaniboi thanks think ill try it i only fix them as hobbies it gives me something to do
As for your samsung repair video that tiny bit falls out of the sim release lol
Maybe one more thing you need to keep in mind when swapping these things: Often some of the most random components between a Snapdragon SoC Samsung and an Exynos SoC Samsung can be different! So be careful about the differences there.
Samsung is also known to use 2 different manufacturers for the camera modules for some models of their device - mixing those up will result in a Camera failed message!
For some models though, replacing the fingerprint sensor might require a factory reset due to software glitch.
Good video, note to your last comment about the A-series, I've replaced some and the biggest issue I had was with the plastic frame breaking easily. P.s any discount codes for heat plates?
Good to see other brands on your channel.👍🏼
Awesome find! Glad it isn't serialized as I initially thought. I've taken the video down as I obviously didn't test far enough. From what I've looked into, it appears to be an issue with EU phone parts and US phones. Definitely wasn't a connection issue, I've been doing this for enough time to check those first.
You're so bad at this lmao
Having the same screws, the company reduces manufacturing time, and costs.
love it.
Wow... Such professionalism is truly amazing
Love a video for the note 3 signal upgrade, problem solving! :)

If Andy Rubin had made the parts of the Essential PH-1 more modular like the S20 and other phones; it would make Mobile repair less of a hassle. Great video, Hugh 👌🏾
Looks like another liar has been caught. I've never understood why you'd lie when countering evidence is available to the masses on a store shelf.
The technician didn't lie. He's just bad at his job. Hugh Jeffreys explained how at the end of the video.
Actually In a comment above the guy mentioned it was because there was a difference between US and EU parts which makes sense since samsung puts shitty exynos processor in EU markets and snapdragon processor in US market
@@nicko9799 Except that that isn't why. Serialized parts and region do often link together. I don't remember the exact reason why every OEM keeps different serial codes for different places, but it doesn't have to do with they horrid 990.
@@nicko9799 But it's not Samsung's problem if you replace your Snapdragon with shtty Exynos or vice versa. It's like putting incompatible processor on your motherboard then complaining when your system fail to post.
When samsung lock components I will start buying another brand

After changing from Samsung to apple, my favourite change is the lightening link charger. Mainly because, with no centre piece to snap off it just makes more sense. My s10+ had charging issues because I was not gentle with it.
