    Hi, I am glad you found the kitchen spatula idea useful. As for the mystery strut, we found that it should clip to the centre of the door frame using the 'C' clip end and bracing against the hard shell with the closed end. Any video we have seen, as well as the setup in the Kings store, leave this item out, as it blocks access to the sky opening. I believe it to be largely redundant, but perhaps in a very strong wind it could offer extra strength. Who knows right?😉
    Happy camping, to you and yout family. My wife and I are starting a road trip tomorrow from Sydney to Port Douglas over 4 days so we will not bother with the annexe tent but thank you for the guidance.👍👍👍

      Thanks mate. The spatula came in very handy and yeah, I agree with you insights on the mystery strut. Seems like the tent is functional enough without it.
      Wow, you're going on a long trip. Sounds exciting! Safe travels and enjoy camping!

    Hi with the spatula idea we use bungie cord rope and feed it through the eyelets in the side windows first go through the side window eyelet at the front of the car and then thread it in the eyelet at the back window ps where you put the spring poles and as you close the top pull on the bungie rope to pull in the canvas which pulls the sides into the middle of the roof top tent works great on bigger cars also we leave the floor attached to the annex and fold it all together and as for the pegs we dont use them we use coach bolts and a cordless drill. hope this helps.....

    • @4theroad
      @4theroad  Před 8 měsíci

      Thanks. I actually tried the bungee cord before. I also attached a carabiner on both ends so its easy to hook onto the eyelets. But I think I used a weak bungee cord thats why it didn't work. I'll try it again. Also thanks for the tip on leaving the floor attached to the annex. That's a great idea!

    Great video, I bought one and had no idea what the hell you used the extra pole for. I see someone has commented on that so thank you. Just one thing with roof racks and cross bars. For example, if your roof rack solution has a product load rating of 100 kg, your roof box has a load rating of 90 kg and your vehicle's roof has been rated by the manufacturer as being able to hold up to 80 kg, then the maximum you can have up top is 80 kg. As I said most vehicles, for example, most 4WDs can handle up to 100kg, with a few exceptions rated at 150kg. Very few reach a capacity as high as 200kg, such as the 200 series Landcruiser.

    • @4theroad
      @4theroad  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks! Had the same issue with the mystery pole. Thanks to @nathanjessup8409 for sharing what it was for. With regards to roof load limit, I totally agree with you. We have to check the dynamic and static roof load limits before buying RTT or any other aftermarket roof attachments. The car user manual should have that information. If it's not there then the other options is to check the manufacturer website or online forums.

    Can you open the moonroof with the annex attached to the tent?

    • @4theroad

      Hi. No you can't open it with the annex tent attached. You have to unzip the annex connection to the RTT then pull back the upper ply so you can open the moonroof

    I would like to know how they go in the rain 🌧

    • @4theroad
      @4theroad  Před 7 měsíci

      It was very good in the rain. We had 2 camping trips that had a decent amount of rain and there was no leaks inside the tent. There was a small leak coming from the zip that connects the RTT and annex tent but that was my fault. I didn't secure the flap cover for the zip.

    @4theroad sir my cross bars is factory standard and does not have rubber infills. Does the tent come with foam or rubber padding against the roof rack?

    • @4theroad
      @4theroad  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi. No it didn't come with rubber paddings. If you have OEM crossbars, may I suggest that you ask the store for more setup suggestions before buying the RTT. Some OEM crossbars might not be strong enough to carry the weight.

    • @jpunzalanful
      @jpunzalanful Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@4theroad thanks! Sad to hear there is no rubber paddings added, I have ordered infill replacement and may do a diy foam padding. If I may ask, what weight limit does your crossbar and roof have?

      @4theroad  Před 9 měsíci

      @@jpunzalanful @jpunzalanful Awesome! Did you buy it online or from the store? Ask them to assist you loading it on your roof. Its quite heavy. Me and a mate of mine struggled to lift it up to the roof of my car. Lucky we didnt injure our backs. And you got a much taller car! . I would suggest you ask the store to assist you to avoid injury.

    Does anyone noticed lots of noise/trepidation after set up the tent on the top of the car? Thanks.

    • @4theroad
      @4theroad  Před měsícem +1

      Hi mate. When driving, there is more wind noise, like whistling sound coming from the crossbars and tent. That's about it. We didn't feel any movement or vibration. If you feel vibration or unusual noise, there might be some loose points on your siderail, crossbar or tent mounting brackets. If you can't find any fault but still feel unease, have it checked by an expert to be safe. Hope this helps

      @nathanjessup8409 Před 7 měsíci +1

      Oh , it's warm alright😉 We have just spent 36 straight nights in the RTT. Travelling from Sydney to Port Douglas over 4 days, then two weeks in Cooktown where we had heat, rain (18mm overnight) and high winds. Then back to Port Douglas for more heat and heavy rain. The tent managed all without any I'll effects. We use a Kings rechargeable fan which lasts overnight on one charge. Incidentally, when it has rained, give the overhang above the ladder a tap to get rid of water droplets. If not, they run straight down you neck😮😂

      @@nathanjessup8409 Oh wow! Awesome trip you guys had. You have really put the RTT to the test! and it's good to hear that it managed thru all that rain and high winds! I need to get myself a rechargeable fan too. We're getting into the warmer months now so it's right time to get one.
