    We have the router with annex, we've had ours 3 years, been camping most weekends in all seasons, the only issue with ours is the aluminum floor has actually torn, apart from that it still performs as new, and we keep a double -5 sleeping bag and 2 pillows,
    I agree with you very good for $700

    I have had 1 for 2 years. In the first year, it got a LOT of use from Brisbane to Blue Mountains to Vic High Country to Tassie and back, plus trips from Brisbane to Flinders Ranges and back as well as various other smaller trip to Fraser Island. About 2 months out of warranty, a strap broke that holds the fly on. They replaced it without any issue at all. I haven't used this replacement much yet due to covid19 erc. But its still great. I have no issue closing mine with bedding and 2 pillows. I have never had to get on the roof to force it closed. I did have to get a 50 dollar ladder extension as I have a 4 inch lift and 35's. For the money, I reckon they are great.

    • @Campingdownunder
      @Campingdownunder  Před 3 lety

      I contacted them well before my warranty was up but as soon as I mentioned how often I use it they flat out refused to honour the warranty. You are covered until your warranty ends regardless of how much use the product gets. I had loved kings gear & their warranty process right up to that point. I feel very let down. As for sitting on the rooftop tent if I don't we struggle to pull the straps tight enough. It's vastly improved though since I recently installed the darche straps

      @@Campingdownunder I can only comment on my own experiences. I have fitted out a few cars and bought a lot from them. With warranty claims, I have dealt with them at their stores and I couldn't complain. I was once sent a faulty item I purchased online, they sent a replacement the next day. Your warranty actually doesn't expire at 12 months, the Australian Consumer Law says it has to be free of manufacturing faults for a reasonable period of time regardless of the time limit given by brands and it also takes into account the price paid. I am sure if you went in to a store and showed them the issues you are having, they would look after you. That's been my experience.

    • @Campingdownunder
      @Campingdownunder  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks mate 👍 I live in the country unfortunately so no where near a store. I have to lodge online claims each time. I'd claimed 2 or 3 things in the past online and there were no questions asked. It was so simple. That's why it shocked me how I was treated when it came to a more expensive item. Their excuse was that I use it too much & that's why it's wear and tear. But warranty doesn't state how much a product can be used just the period which I was still within

    My theory on why 4wds prices are jumping is because they essentially work on Buy bulk (real bulk) and less and less people are Buying from them as well as they've stopped drop shipping so they don't have the Buying power they used to over in China, as well as they have payed to up there quality control (only slightly but still) and I think they've been fined 2-3 times so all these costs will have to be passed on to the Buyers even if it isn't justified just my 2c

If I had my time again I’d get the dune roof top tent, only a few hundred dollars more, but looks better and easy to set up.

      It's all relative!
      Using it pretty much every weekend as you say for 2 years, say 80 to 90 trips is conservatively 6 to 9 years worth of camping for the average couple/family. Mothering this rtt a little.
      To me that's pretty good value!

    You covered everything from the floor to the straps. The zips do break over time and the covers tend to tear. As to folding out the tent⛺️ it took me years to figure out and I've thought of doing a video for CZcams of how to make the floor level. When opening the rooftop tent you use the ladder 🪜 to do so. Once the tent is opened lift the ladder back up until the first click. Then grabbing each side click it into the slot as it levels it out. Then drop the ladder down again and the floor becomes level. I like this review as you said it like it is. You buy cheap expect cheap but if you buy something more expensive look for reviews of problems that come with them.

    Another great review. I have the same tent and find it ok for what I need. With it not sitting flat I pop a
    Ratchet strap on it and pull it flat, not ideal but seems to work. It’s the age old saying you get what you pay for, lucky I only paid $500 with the roof rack. What tape did you use on the ladder. Thanks for taking the time to review things.

    I own one of these as well mate and you and I have both learned that these are the drawbacks of not spending a little bit more. Personally, if you’re reading this and are deciding about this tent these are a really great financial solution if you have kids that can sleep in the top and then you can sleep down the bottom on a queen mattress in the annex. For me and my partner (with no kids) just kicking around and camping it doesn’t feel like it’s been the right investment. I will note that for me that cracking you’re hearing on your floor is only on the side that isn’t supported by the roof racks. Is that the same for you? Great videos mate keep it up.

Rather than blowing the inbuilt fuse it sends a high current straight to the dimmer switch which gets very hot then catches on fire. Check the ends every time before you use them & you'll be fine. I bought my Adventure Kings Tourer RTT in Nov 2019 slept in there for a few nights when I was moving from job to job until COVID started and I was stuck in SA and I was lucky to find a job for 1 year. End of May my travel mate and I started traveling again and since then the tent just started to fall apart. I lost zwei nuts at the hinges, the floor (what you mentioned) is cracked and I don't feel safe too. The mozzies always find a way in unless I put blankets in the corner and wrap it around the hinge. The zipper is not very smooth anymore and and and... I was a poor backpacker and I payed so much for it because I thought this will be nice for my travel but no!

    I have been considering a rooftop tent and as I do not go camping a lot and will be on my own this would probably suit me however the design flaws you outlined are interesting and require consideration. The floor that sags is simply to large an area to be self supporting and needs to be constructed of a thicker piece of marine ply. It is not adequately supported and the ladder is just not robust enough to do the job. If I were to purchase one, these are the modifications I would have to make just based on your review.
    1. A piece of 14mm marine ply would need to be substituted for the current offering. This will still need to be supported to prevent flexing by cross bars of box section aluminium tubing.
    2. two robust supporting legs on the corners where the guy ropes are.
    3. The ladder in my opinion is just not robust enough to support the floor let alone the weight of two adults. I would never drill a hole in the rails as this will create a weak point. The middle section of the ladder is a potential weak point with an unacceptable amount of flex. The side rails of the ladder need to be longer to mitigate this.
    5. The hinge points connecting the ladder to the extended floor are also another potential fail point and need to be more heavy duty. The last thing you want is a ladder fail resulting in an injury and/or damage to your vehicle.
    4. Marine grade clips, buckles and straps should be fitted.
    With all of the potential modifications that need doing the price of near $ 900 is way above value for money. As for having to get onto the roof to put the cover on a small folding ladder will need to be used as this will always be an issue. The zips can be lubricated by rubbing a carpenters pencil on the zip ( never use sprays as they attract dirt and moisture. ) The light issue can be solved by camping in a shaded spot if possible. At the end of the day it is a budget tent and unfortunately you get what you pay for but it has the potential to be a lot better.

On a budget I'd rather get outdoors earlier. You can always sell your cheaper accessories when your ready to upgrade. It's not like you are throwing money away as you still get those extra memories of being outdoors that you wouldn't have had if you stayed home & you still get some money back when you upgrade. You get what you pay for.. spend the money and get something quality. “Buy once cry once”

      I've since upgraded to the 23zero rooftop tent and absolutely love it 😀 not everyone can afford to upgrade to a better quality one straight away. A lot of people have actually had good experiences with the kings rooftop tent. Not many people use it as much as I do. It's fine if money isn't a factor but for someone on a budget it's better to buy what you can afford rather than staying at home saving & missing out on time outdoors. You can always upgrade accessories when you can afford it. The important thing is getting out there asap and enjoying what our country has to offer 👍

    Why can't you just change the floor out.
    18mm marine ply and a handful of stainless bolts.

    • @Campingdownunder
      @Campingdownunder  Před 3 lety +1

      The floor is the entire structure of it. Everything is attached to it. It would be incredibly hard

      Screw in a false floor on top of the sus floor?
      6 or 9mm thick ply still should be able to close it if others are able to close it with bedding and pillows.

      @@stevecrowe176 .
      I bought a second hand one that had never actually been used.
      And I know what the other blokes saying now.
      The floors pretty much the structure of the hole thing.
      I think two pieces of 9 mil ply work work fine .
      I was very surprised by the amount of room in these.
      When a way for 5 days the first week we had it.
      Slept the Mrs me and little one.
      Cosy but easily doable.
      Way better than us all in a swag on the ground.
      Makes the Mrs feel safer being off the ground.
      Which is a selling point boys lol.

    everyone knows most of Kings stuff is crap, why do you think its so cheap? Old saying you get what you pay! I saved and got Quality 23zero Swags . Yeah they are about 4 x times the price but are Quality and will last years instead of months. Cheaper in Long run

  • @HLsab
    @HLsab Před 3 lety +1

    Don’t know what you were expecting ?
    Buy cheap shit and expect it to perform like one 4 times the price , it’s a reality check for you .
    As far as not backing you with a warranty , they have been doing that for years now , have you read problems people have with warranty issues ?
