    Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) composed this poetic piece in 1902 as part of a cycle of 12 romances, shortly before his marriage. The text is by Glafira Adol'fovna Galina, a Russian poet, writer and essayist (1873-1942) who may have been born in the same year as Rachmaninoff.
