      Hey mate I hit a single wire earth return with a scissor lift my boss was operating. I took 19,000 volts three times over 11 seconds. I lost both my legs n now I’m getting ready to race dirtbikes on prosthetic legs

      If I could I would spend my life learning a new craft trade every 5 years. I am an electrician, but I spend most my free time making projects because I am curious about learning other skills... a couple of decades ago being a Jack of All Trades wasn't considered being a person with a lack of focus! LOL

    Major respect to the guys that do this work for real. This job is no joke! As guy said, you can only get it wrong once! You don't often see them, but, whenever I do, I tip my hat to them because without them doing their job, we'd all be back in the dark ages, unable to do ours (or much else!).

    My dad was a linesman for South Wales electricity board,(Trydan dy cymru) back in the day... I was always in awe of him ,as he climbed those poles and fixed those lines ....Thankyou all

    This is a fascinating insight to the grid, beyond seeing the pylons and substations etc from a distance never get to see how it hangs together.

    This is literally my dream job, I'm currently a telecoms engineer and I always look at the pilons and I'm like I'd love to be working on them. It makes the telegraph poles look like a kids playground.

    My old friends father was a linesman, I'm sure he worked for Manweb/Norweb. Not sure if that was part of the national grid, but sadly he fell from a pileon and died.

      The national grit take the power from the power stations and distribute it to the regional electricity companies. Manweb is an abbreviation of Merseyside and north Wales electricity board, norweb is north western electricity board.
      The regional boards have had many fatalities over the years with people falling from height. Unless the accident your talking about happened 30+ years ago then there’s a good chance I will know of your friends father and what happened and why.
      It’s a dangerous job but if all the modern rules and procedures where followed then there’s a good chance your friends dad would still be here today.

      I worked for eskom before they started to collapse.from 1983 till 2008 Not all the linesman in the world will save south Africa. Becauce your corrupt cANCer. South africa recieved 1.5 trillion to improve the electrical infrastructure to move away from fossil fuel

      @@stoepie1015 in 2008 they were talking about sweating assets then , meaning we do maintenance or not . we used to be one of the world leaders in electrical suppling and exporting and now load shedding three time per day every day . I was there in December in small town . there was only three days we did not have load shedding Christmas day boxing day and new years day . they received the money in October last year

      Just be careful. I hit a single wire earth return carrying 19kva. Took it 3 times hell it hurt a lot.. I lost both legs a lot of skin n fried my internal organs. I had 25 surgeries and bled out in 3 of em. Be aware of the dangers because when it does go wrong, it goes really wrong..
      the bangs are so bloody loud mate and the heat is just mental! I felt like I was on fire for months after. Four years later I’m about to enter my first dirtbike race and on the way to buying my own farm. Have a good one mate.

    Has an exlineman 40 years ( wood pole the odd smaller tower ) from Lincolnshire close to Guys home. For him to climb a tower and not hang on with at least one hand is very impressive. Most hold on at the begining and it takes a while to let go.

    I’m currently a Brit in Australia working with on Merc fire trucks that patrol the out back tackling wild fires.
    You say Mercedes to someone and instantly think wealthy show off status.
    The one I’m working on atm doesn’t have remote central locking 2017 g wagon! Seats are mounted on actual springs.
    It says to me practical and reliable for the job !

    Brilliant program but someone fed you duff gen on speed electricity flows. It’s about one metre per second. The electrons that immediately flow when you turn on power we’re already in your house wiring just like turning on a tap the water that immediately flows out was already in the house pipe not travelling from reservoir instantly.

    Interesting about HVO, Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil as a replacement for diesel, 90% less c02 emissions So why ban the sale of new diesel cars, just sell them as HVO cars and why the push for electric vehicles as an alternative to diesel. Seems an awful lot of diesel cars could use HVO if there were the filling stations.

    A guy I know fell off.
    He fell and bashed his abdomen on the lines below before hitting the ground.
    He survived, just , but never ate or drank properly again due to the injuries.

      Incorrect. Network craftspeople have qualifications in Electrical Power Engineering and must throughly understand and apply these principles in multiple aspects of work.

      @@joesutherland225 It’s an engineering qualification, I didn’t say it was a degree. That said many of the craftspeople I work with have achieved degree level qualifications in electrical and mechanical engineering and are just as capable with a spanner in their hands as they are designing circuits and substations.
      They are engineers, not just tradesmen.

      Yup I agree some go from trades qualification to engineering qualifications have found those ones to be the best at designing stuff that doesn't need tweaking on install others without the hands on background need 10 plus years before they get anywhere near to built as designed

      @@djturbine7565 um I take exception to just tradesmen as I explained most university trained engineers design projects and you get the prints on the job and immediately find stuff that just does not fit as designed then I call the engineer to the job and explain how it's actually be designed only once did an engineer not agree and stamp the change so not just a tradesman a Profesional a peer of anybody involved on a project I'm on as are all the rest of us

      Well it depends how you charge it and discharge it... If you treat the batteries "correctly" they can last much longer, but then your electric car get half the reach and it complicates the electric car useage a lot.

    Please Guy, don't become a mouthpiece of the scumbags, we could have saved a whole series of program by just heading straight to the accountancy offices of Shell, BP, EDF etc etc to understand why we had the price rises, greed, and you know that already.       Yes here in Norway the power companies used to be owned by the people and government, now it is all privatized and we have 10 double to 30 double the price to pay to these currupt bandits that sell all the power to Germany ... We the people paid to create the power companies trough our taxes, then our currupt bandits calle "politicians" sold it all and now the power companies is bleeding us dry with high prices of what we did pay for and owned until it was sold for pennies...
