@@ayoungentomologist7163 I saw a CZcamsr with Pet Velvet Ants. They are quite adorable but I think the fact that they can not be captive bred makes it unlikely that i would consider them a good pet to keep.

Had a bull ant (Inchman) in my kitchen a couple weeks ago. I treated him well. He feasted upon sugar and ham. I put him in a bowl of dirt and leaves and covered his throne with cling film. I wished him goodnight as I put him outside. In the morning I discovered he had escaped..

Quick story: I've lived in Australia for 8 years when I was 4-12 and one time, when I was 8 me and my family were taking family photos in Simpson's gap (I lived in Alice Springs) and I was stung by three bull ants at once, two below my right thumb, and one jumped up to the back of my head and stung me there. my hair stopped one bull ants sting, and the other kind of pushed one away so it half-stung me. but the one that pushed one away got a direct sting and I was just in pain for the rest of the photoshoot, honestly, just another normal day in the land down under.
T_T i think i wouldnt enter australia without a whole body protection suit and even then i wouldn't feel safe :/ maybe if i added a flamethrower or sth.

Its been known for centuries now.
Im Aussie and have been bitten by bull ants a few times, although I always knew them as jumping jacks. They do hurt but not as bad as this hyped them up to, the worst thing is if one bites you and you squish it the rest of the nest will swarm out of the nest and literally chase you its really annoying if you were planning on doing anything in the vicinity lol.

Same thing, hurt but meh, when three of them going to town on your knee biting AND stinging as you notice the ten more crawling out of the rotten log you rested on while hiking, THATS when ya panic haha
I only lost them (ran for bit down the hill, caught breath and just caught up right away) when jumped in a nearby stream, thankfully water removes scent mark

I found an ant colony at my friends house, they were nesting under some bricks, I lifted the bricks, my sister and my friend backed away but I stayed trying to find the queen without knowing that the ants swarmed my legs all the way up to my arms, that’s when they stung me, very painful, I couldn’t move my finger joints for like 20mins

Army ants are amazing. In east Africa, i saw a column of these ants crossing a dirt trail. The mass of seemingly thousands of the ant population scurried in a crowded narrow central column, but which was flanked on both sides by a single column of stationary ants posing outward with their large open mandibles, as if they were guarding the central column. i could get very close and watch this collective behavior as they didn't to like jumping, even if they could.
I thought you were gonna talk about some type of bacteria, but that is still horrifying
Imagine this, Schmidt gets stung for science, but then as a scientist should follow the scientific process which directs that you have at least 3 experiment runs to create an average, so Schmidt, assuming he followed the process, was stung by each insect at least 3 times.

"Blue bottles ants" are the wingless wasps (they're pretty to look at) and "bull ants" and "jack jumpers" are different species of ant.

While Australia's wildlife has a nasty reputation, often deserved, our almost complete lack of large predators means it's one of the few places where, if you take care to stay warm (and steer clear of the bull ant nests) it's perfectly safe to lay down in the middle of the wilderness and go to sleep.
The nearest thing we have to a large predator is the dingo, and while attacks have happened, they are usually against small children. In most cases attacks have been on Fraser Island where tourists have habituated them to human contact.
@@Just_Elika Saltwater crocodiles as well, but in both cases their habitat is a tiny, tiny part of mainland Australia.

You think today Australia is bad, for the ancestors of the Aborigines when they came here 65000 years ago they also had to deal with the likes of Meglania (a giant lizard related to the Komodo Dragon), Quinkana (a land croc the size of modern day Salties), Wonambi (a large very primitive constrictor snake), Thylacoleo (the marsupial lion) and other massive and strange beasties. Infact most of the modern day australian wildlife are merely the small and medium size citers who dwelled in the shadow of these long gone giants
