- After my trip from Luník IX which is a borough in the city of Košice, Slovakia, known to be a ghetto and Gypsy slum, I decided to tour Košice and take a look at the surroundings. This town is really vibrant and busy with a lot of options and places to enjoy in the town square such as bars and restaurants but during the time I was there and traveling around I constantly kept coming across beggars and people in desperate situations in need of money more than any other city in Europe that I have visited.

To people who plan to visit. Don’t worry, you aren’t getting swarmed by beggars the moment you come out of the station. He’s holding a camera, that’s why he’s getting their attention. This doesn’t really happen that much otherwise.

Omg, these comments, guys, I have lived in Košice for 7 years. City is nice, historical and clean full of nice and kind people. It doesn't means that you have seen some wierd people in few minutes of some video that whole city is full of wierdoes or gypsies You will see the same wierd people when you will go outside of Main Train Station in Prague , it means that Prague is dirty or is full of these kind of people? NO. Please do not judge whole city according few minutes of some video on the internet...🤦♂

I don't wanna be rude, but the thing is, seeing a black guy with a camera in my city makes those beggars come out of their dens and they feel the opportunity to get some money or food, if you are local, they aren't gonna approach you that much, mostly it happens on the main bus stops in the downtown nearby Aupark, but other than that, the city is vibrant and more chill than Bratislava.
Most of the older and not so well educated Slovak people will treat people of your race like an attraction and I believe that's why you were approached by so many of those people.
I don't know on which day the video was filmed, but there are a lot of them compared to normal days I experience, anyway, I hope you liked Košice to some extent and enjoyed your stay

They also flock to me when I’m at the station or city centre because they feel as if they’re more connected to me because of my colour but I don’t entertain them for 1 second.
They can see any type of nationality, they'll keep tryin' for begging. No matter what place you stayin' at. That's not just about train station and a centre of city as well..
@@jakubjakub3388 ofc they'll try, but you have to admit that foreign people will be approached more times because some of the beggars know that Slovaks wont give them anything and those tourists see them as unfortunate people that have a hard life, even though they chose to live that way

12:55 This man was in a talent show called "'Československo má talent", that's why he has a sticker there just to remember the moment I guess, he is very humble and kind. Also I like how you say "dobrý den" to everyone😂 It's very uncommon here or at least that's what I think 😅 Lastly I would recommend to avoid gypsies or so because they will only try to take money from you and some can be dangerous as well, sure if they want food and water you can buy them but I wouldn't give them money 😅
Finally, I would recommend to check out Prešov and Bardejov as well, Bardejov is in UNESCO ❤

the rails in the city center 10:20 , tram used to go there but because of instability of infrastructure and potentional damage to national heritage St. Elisabeth Cathedral (church), tram line was cancelled.
This is what everybody says but actually it is not true. Or maybe that was what communists were saying back when they removed trams out of Hlavna. The real reason was that they planned reconstruction of the Cathedral and the scaffolding would stick into the tram track - just remember that it was almost a running gag, that everytime you go to the city the scaffolding is still there, just moved a couple of meters further. They were working on that for 20 years.
Also when the tramline was constructed on Kuzmanyho, the tramline on Hlavna kind of lost it's purpose.

@@MiroMiroMiroMiroMiro áno, keď dom celý opravovali aby sa dostal do takej peknej podoby, ako je dnes, a nebola to ľahká práca, keďže sa zmenil režim a peniaze neboli, ale teraz tam už nič také nie je, opravovala sa Urbanova veža teraz a aj ta je už pekná a lešenie je okolo fontány tento rok, elektricky spôsobovali hrozne otrasy a som rada, že už na hlavnej nie sú, iba občas historické, tak máme najkrajšiu pešiu zónu v strednej Európe z toho, čo som mala možnosť vidieť, je tam aj história, aj parky, aj reštaurácie, v ktorých sa najete za normálne ceny v podstate, cez obed sú plné ľudí využívajúcich menu, a nie skoro vsetky také, do ktorých radšej nesadnete, lebo sú tam ceny na osklbanie turistov zo "západu"
I posted on another of your videos just now you should visit Kosice then I see this - you were there same time as us a week ago! I’ve been going over there regularly for the past 24 years….the place has so much cultural heritage and the big town events are just amazing (the marathon, Kosice day which is actually a week of events and partying)

Its such a shame so many people aproached you asking for money.. my experience is that they dont even bother being nice to locals just ask them.. best reaction you can have is just convince them you have nothing to give, i usually say "nemám nič, prepáč" or "mám iba na karte" (i only have money on my card.)

Yes mate, trams used to run through the city centre until at some point in the 80s or so, from what I remember. Definitely remember them running up and down the Hlavna ulica when I was a kid.
10:26 - Those tracks were used by light rail line till about 1986 or so, when trams and cars were redirected from central street to surrounding wider area. It is unknown exactly why traffic was removed but official reasoning was that vehicles created vibrations that damaged the central cathedral. Tracks were used later for horse tramway, but that was cancelled as well few years ago. Currently they are not used for anything.

Hopefully you are safe man. Your first escape from Lunik IX had quite a lot of luck and a brave taxi driver involved. If you returned to that place ... well, in Czech there is a saying: "Komu není rady, tomu není pomoci...".
I have noticed that in this city some few beggars asked for money but you didn't want to portray them.
We stayed there for 3 days it’s a great place, the trains are. Poprad is excellent for trains to the Tatra mountains and a good hub to stsy

35 + years ago trams , public transports were runing in city center, remember tram stop front of the cathedral , because of quakes they wont allow trams in city center,

10:19 Used to be a tram track that was built there originaly as the first tram track in 1914. It was still functioning during communism but it's purpouse was then replaced by trams going on parallel streets to the main street in order to get rid of traffic on pedestrain area. The tracks are left there since they are a historic legacy and sometimes they put there an old tram for show.

They deserve nothing. In 95% of the cases they are choosing these lifestyles or learning it. They are not homeless, but rather than working they are getting by with begging and by state welfare. If we would stop giving them free stuff they would change, but until then this is enough for them to be happy

Košice is best either in the warm summer months or Christmas festive seasons. So it's absolutely worth staying there in August
