  • Big thanks to @Technomadic for the loan of his Waldorf Iridium - the desktop incarnation of the larger Waldorf Quantum. We're pairing that with the Soma Cosmos Drifting Memory Station - (just reviewed) but it has a new Firmware - currently Beta, which adds a more traditional Looping option. This will be available as some point in the near future, but we thought we'd use it.
    WAV File available via our Patreon Page

    The Arturia Keystep 37 is plugged into the Iridium USB host port (no MIDI cables needed), the Iridium then goes directly into the Cosmos and out to the recording.
    The Iridium is certainly a lovely piece of hardware with a ton of features and synthesis options - sadly we didn't have time to go into that, but the hardware is really lovely.

    Absolutelly killer treat. Its sad Nick has to borrow these from a fellow musicians. Would be great companies would really understand the value of Sonic State audience. Beautiful Nick, my respect to your dedication and artistry. You do know your craft for sure … and thats why we are here :-) Great to be part of this group.

      Nick has sold me on most of the synths I have gotten over the last few years. I always wait for the sonicstate review on stuff I am interested in, the definitive synth reviews for me.

    If you think the Iridium is a beautifully designed and engineered bit of kit, you'll be stunned by the physical presence of the Quantum!

    • @X22GJP
      @X22GJP Před 2 lety

      Ummm, iridium pretty much is a quantum. It also offers 16 voices instead of 8. Sure it drops the analogue filters, but makes up for it in other ways.

    • @jimharris6389
      @jimharris6389 Před 2 lety

      Yes I know the specs are very similar. I meant it's physical beauty and presence, which Nick goes on about a lot at the beginning. If you're impressed by the feel/design of the Iridium you'll be be blown away by the Quantum. Was what I meant.

    As usual, a great treat from Nick. In my experience with the Iridium, you don’t need something like the Cosmos to add those effects, the Iridium has some fantastic inbuilt effects that can do all that, and more including modulation of many effect params. New Iridium OS with MPE and more, will take it to a new level.

    Finally they get an option that makes it a real looper . I want one now . They need more of these firmware updates so performers / loopers can consider it a viable option instead of a quirky novelty . A tempo sync “everything” in multiple intervals mode is certainly something I want to see in future firmware . 👽
