    Thank you. I'll watch this video again to install correctly.

    I purchased the same pump and im planning to do cam install to my 2015 caprice v8 6.0L (L77 Engine), Do you recommend deleting the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pan?
    My engine is stock bottom end, stock clearance just a dod delete and cam kit swap.

      @whiplashtv2022  Před 11 měsíci

      Probably the best 2 options are to either shim the spring so that it will be harder for it to relieve or delete it.

    I'm rebuilding a 5.3. Basically stock specs with aftermarket upgrades to handle nitrous. The only part I'm stuck on is the oil pump. A lot of mixed information out there. I looked at the M295hv but not sure if it's needed because no plans to increase bearing clearances. Any thoughts?

    • @whiplashtv2022
      @whiplashtv2022  Před 2 lety +1

      A huge detail is whether or not your stock spec 5.3 is a DOD motor or non DOD. I would run the Melling 10296 as seen in this video with the standard spring that comes installed if it were me. If your motor has displacement on demand then you have to have the extra volume because of how it works.

      @@whiplashtv2022 My bad for not saying it is non DOD (gen 3). Makes sense to use the pump in this video. The volume is fine and I have the option to increase pressure if needed. I'm checking out your other videos. Lots of great info. Subscribed and thank you!! 👍

    I have an 07 5.3L LY5 in a 07 Sierra. It's got 115K on it. Already changed my O ring and am still at 25 PSI hot idle. maybe 38/39 while cruising. Info I get is that it's fine but I want to bump the pressure up a bit more. My DOD is disabled via tune. Plus I am going ot install the OIL port blocker for the VLOM passage. Would the 10296 be the choice of pump for my needs?

      This pump will work for you. With DOD you have to have a high volume pump as a minimum requirement. A high pressure oil pump is not necessarily a requirement. If you are having oil pressure issues….have you tried replacing the oil pickup tube o ring?

Oil pressure when cold is 40 but doesn't more with rpm (when cold i can drive down the road and no matter what rpm is stays at 40 psi) untill it warms up. Once warmed up it idles 20-30 and moved with rpm as it should. Im gonna replace the o ring and the oil pump because its got 260 thousand on it. Figured it can't hurt. I am not sure what springs the 355 pump is all supposed to come with. I don’t see why the installed spring would not be sufficient. I am running the installed spring on the 10296 and have plenty of oil pressure. I also deleted the piston squirters and the factory oil cooler as well.

    • @whiplashtv2022
      @whiplashtv2022  Před rokem

      You do according to Mellings instructions. If you simply put the pump on and tighten it then gravity will have it sitting a little lower than it should and could cause premature wear and damage.

    • @taylorsrus9543
      @taylorsrus9543 Před 2 lety +1

      The 355 hvhp is a superior pump. This is like the stock LSA pump. These you will often see oil pressure in the teens on hot days in traffic. His logic is sound but a bit misleading as you usually run more bearing clearance so it's not apples to apples. Also will depend on what oil you want to run. As with all things, it depends on your whole combination.
