    Your videos should be added to the ZL1 service manual! Great job! I guess for years ive been doing it wrong, but never had an issue. This is timely though as i am finally going to install mine tomorrow and get this car finished. Did you end up pulling prv out of the pan?

      I put the oil pan on yesterday and got the PRV plugged off. Been dealing with the a/c, alternator and the cables today. Thanks for the kind words, this has been a PITA for sure though.

      Whats going on with the cables/Alt?
      Your car is super clean btw.
      I need to plug mine also, prob this summer.
      What heat range plugs you run? 6 or 7 and what is your boost level with that cam?

    Had this installed when my motor was rebuilt about a month ago. My oil pressure stays about 50 now on my gauge compared to 30 when stock oil pump.

      What spring did you use for the pressure relief? Whhat was your pressure at redline?

      I installed a factory LS6 oil pump in my 98 z28 LS1 about 15+ years ago. Ported the inlet and outlet. Still have 58 psi on cold startup and 40 psi hot idle in park.

    Great video man I’ve never rebuilt a last I had a question do you need a timing chain guide installed behind that pump? I’m fixing to build one of these motors just trying to figure out all it’s little
    Nuances so I have a smooth build. Thanks for all your hard work and wisdom God bless .

      The pump can install before or after the chain guide. They don’t interfere with each other. Thanks for watching.

    Life will be a little easier for you once you start using Newton-meters. Why did you have to replace the pump, what's the issue with the original one?

    • @fasnuf
      @fasnuf  Před 2 lety

      Honestly I use both, but I know someone out there has used FT/lbs when IN/lbs was called for and stripped their bolts out. My audience is worldwide and most people probably prefer NM. I'm changing the pump because at my horsepower and torqu, I need more pressure and volume to keep from damaging my engine under extreme loads. I was barely seeing 50 psi at the most near redline.

    No blue loctite?

    • @fasnuf
      @fasnuf  Před 2 lety

      It didn’t have any on it and the Service manual doesn’t require it. It’s tight. Blue thread lock wouldn’t hurt.

      @Airman.. Před 2 lety

      @FasNuf Garage i think i have seen on the first time of oil pump bolts removal some traces of blue loctite, same goes to rocker bolts although service manual doesn't specify it 🤔

    What happens to the alignment of the crank gear when you pull out the three feeler gauges and then tighten the harmonic balancer up against it? how can it remain in the same place? I didn’t realize the crank your fit so loose is there a solution?

    • @fasnuf
      @fasnuf  Před 11 měsíci

      I'm not sure I'm following what you're asking. The crank gear for the timing chain? Never touched it and it never moved. If you're talking about the crank portion that the feeler gauges touch, that never moves either. Hope that answered your question.

      @@fasnuf it looks to me like the inner edge of the harmonic balancer hub when pressed on the crankshaft will contact the oil pump gear once you pull the feeler gauges out of that what’s to keep it centered other than the pressure of harmonic balancer

    I wonder why the (Manufacturer) of the pump. Say this is unnecessary? Its not a power level thing eather. Seems like if a guy/girl Wanted to go farther than Mellings Recommendation. You could simply poor oil on the gear before Following mellings instructions.

    • @fasnuf
      @fasnuf  Před 5 měsíci

      You should be priming the pump before starting the engine and it'll then be sitting in oil. The point of the alignment is to not have any wear occuring. Some like the idea, some think it's unnecessary. To each their own I guess. Thanks for watching.
