    Little fun fact, how Savage had killed Adi, was an idea Ray park had suggested to George. How Adi died, was how Maul would have killed Qui-Gon, but George thought the scene was too gruesome......"savage" you could say. Glad to see the idea wasn't completely forgotten.

      andrew roncallo I didn't know that, but it's awesome! I also appreciate the way many great Ideas from Legends have been brought back to Canon, like Rahm Kota as Kanan Jarrus or the scenario of a fight between the old Obi-Wan and Maul on Tatooine from "Old Wounds" for the new Rebels-Season ^^

    • @andrewroncallo1336
      @andrewroncallo1336 Před 7 lety +20

      I'm honestly hoping they make the Obi-Wan and Maul fight different from legends. I'm sorry, but for me, it feels like they've invested much in this character, and in turn I have as well. We've seen him struggle, and fight, and hope for a future he can exist in. But every time he comes close, he falls, and hard at that. I'm hoping when Maul and Obi-Wan meet again, that it is more or something other then just the last fight Maul will ever know.I know it's a lot to hope for, but I'm hoping Maul finally get's the message, and realizes there is more to his life then the suffering that both he and his victims have endured.

    • @dubbingcollapse9966
      @dubbingcollapse9966 Před 7 lety +5

      I'm sorry, but his life is just too poisioned through darkness, hate and pain from his birth on as he could ever Change his mind. It would be very tragic if he would really Change his mind, but get immediately shot by Uncle Owen like in "Old Wounds".

      DependableExpendable To be fair, they never actually showed the scene. It was implied that he had done it, but never showed him doing so. Plus, if they had gone with the scene, their would be blood and gore, because Maul would have ripped Qui-Gon's torso apart with his horns. It's not like a light saber that simply burns and cauterize's the wound. And before you bring up original trilogy, they only ever cut off arms, in no scene had they slashed a person to pieces.

    My favourite part of this scene is the end of the duel. Maul genuinely cared about Savage; I heard it in his voice just after Savage got his arm sliced off. Maul may like to think of Savage as his apprentice but first and foremost, he is his brother and I think Maul's affection for Savage is the closest thing to love he's capable of feeling. I'm glad they brought Maul back because they made him a three dimensional character, unlike in The Phantom Menace where he was just there to kill Qui-Gon and look cool whilst doing it. He succeeded at doing both but in the movie, he didn't have much of a character. Poor Adi Gallia. However I do like that Savage made use of his horns. Normally a Zabrak's horns are just there to make them look cool but here they're actually used as a weapon.

      +DarthWill3 What I find annoying about how people intepretate this duel is that they say Obi-Wan could easily take on both Darth Maul and Savage Opress, I've seen it on Reddit threads, Comic Vine threads, CZcams comments etc. Let me analyse how that duel was written step by step, mostly about Darth Maul and Obi-Wan until Savage Opress got involved.
      Firstly, Maul wasn't in the mood for a fight because he was busy with his ''plans'', When Obi-Wan and Adi Gala arrived, Savage said ''The Jedi brother. They found us.'', Maul responded ''No it's too soon, my plan isn't finished yet. Too soon''. The fact that Obi-Wan and Adi Gala arrived which interrupted Maul's plans, Maul was frustrated because it was an uncomfortable time to fight. And when Maul and Savage reached Obi-Wan and Adi Gala, Maul fought Obi-Wan with an offensive strategy while Obi-Wan fought while Obi-Wan with a defensive strategy, Maul wanted to get rid of Obi-Wan as soon as possible because he didn't want his plans to be ruined, when Obi-Wan and Adi Gala jumped off the cliff which was where the duel was taking place, Maul and Savage followed them, it first cuts to Savage fighting Adi Gala, and when it cuts to Maul fighting Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan waved his arms basically saying ''Come at me'' and Maul lunges at Obi-Wan and misses, which is a clear indication that Maul was trying to get rid of Obi-Wan as soon as possible, and what further proves this point is when Obi-Wan jumps on a crashed ship and Maul jumps on it as well and says ''Now... I have plans Kenobi. And you will not stand in my way this time!'', that quote indicates that Maul was just trying to get rid of Obi-Wan because he had ''plans''. And even though Maul was just lunging at Obi-Wan and wasn't using a proper strategy other than just using an offensive strategy, they were both evenly matched, Obi-Wan managed to kick Maul but his kick had no effect on Maul whatsoever. Maul wasn't even fighting properly, he was just lunging at Obi-Wan and it was a stalemate. And one last point I want to bring up, Maul moves aster than Obi-Wan. When Obi-Wan witnessed Savage killing Adi Gala, he screamed ''NO!!'' and kicked Savage in the face with the intention of killing Savage out of anger
      (Savage couldn't react fast enough to dodge Obi-Wan's kick). Even though Obi-Wan was closer to Savage than Maul was, Maul reached Savage in time before Obi-Wan could even deliver the finishing blow despite being further away.
      Now here's my second point regarding Obi-Wan taking on both Maul and Savage. Firstly, Obi-Wan could barely take them on and was overwhelmed very quickly, he managed to temporarily get away because he was saved by the Pirates and used the Force to grab Adi Gala's Light Saber and ran off with the pirates while Maul and Savage eventually caught up with them in a very cramped and narrow area. The area that Obi-Wan fought Maul and Savage was cramped and narrow, and don't forget that Obi-Wan had 2 Light Sabers, and in that narrow area Obi-Wan kicked Maul away soon after the fight started again so that he could focus on Savage because he was trying the separate them, and when Maul quickly came back Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan kicked Savage multiple times because he wanted to focus on Maul but his kicks didn't work (except the last one), so Obi-Wan tried to give them both the best he had in terms of duelling skills which is why you constantly see Obi-Wan jumping around, doing flips in the air and throwing kicks because he was desperate to best them both. And when Obi-Wan finally managed to throw a kick on Savage that worked (because he already did it multiple times before in the same part of Savage's leg) in the cramped narrow area (you need to remember that the area they were fighting in disadvantaged Maul and Savage that allowed Obi-Wan to hold them off), Maul used the Force to pick up Obi-Wan and hold him like a rag doll, and don't use the excuse that Obi-Wan was caught off guard and wasn't trying to resist Maul's Force grab because if you look closely at that moment, Obi-Wan wasn't caught off guard and he was facing Maul with clearly indicates that Obi-Wan was going to focus on Maul, Obi-Wan couldn't resist Maul's Force grab and was thrown at the side, Maul and Savage brought out their Light Sabers and Obi-Wan activated his dual Light Sabers and locked blades with Maul and Savage, Obi-Wan kicked Savage's leg and broke it and cut his arm off, Maul screamed ''SAVAGE!!'' which shows that he genuinely cared about him, Obi-Wan attempted to strike at Maul but Maul used a powerful Force push on Obi-Wan that sent him towards the end of the tunnel and collapsed it.
      Now that I've explained how unfair this duel was and that the odds were against Maul and Savage, Maul still won by Force pushing Obi-Wan towards the end of the tunnel. This Rant debunks the so called evidence some people use that I've seen on the Internet, especially in Versus threads, that Obi-Wan was stronger than Maul and ''was able to outmatch both Maul and Savage''. And what's ironic about this is that they didn't pay any proper attention to the duel itself of why it wasn't fair, and even when it was unfair and the odds were against Maul, Maul won and Obi-Wan lost.

    • @DarthWill3
      @DarthWill3 Před 8 lety +23

      Maul's still got it, that's for sure. He was able to use the Force to bring Obi-Wan against the wall, cornering him. Clever strategy.

    • @YousufKhanPR
      @YousufKhanPR Před 8 lety +9

      DarthWill3 Maul was pissed and just wanted to get rid of Obi-Wan so he did that just to put him down, Maul had plans anyway and was frustrated so he lunged at Obi-Wan most of the time but they were still evenly matched even though Maul wasn't fighting properly. If Maul wasn't frustrated, Maul would be more defensive, captious and act smarter.

    • @starwarsfan238753
      @starwarsfan238753 Před 8 lety +7

      +DarthWill3 People do understand that he wasn't just kicking him for the shits right? he was weakening his knee and did it multiple times, obi-wan may have ran and brought them to a narrow area but he also showed alot of strategy in his fight/ divide and conquer by pushing savage away he gave himself enough room to go back and forth between the two all the while slowly weakening savage's leg so he could use it in his advantage. Maul was fast indeed but being in close quarters obi-wan out matched both of them and had the fight went on I think obi-wan would have won but he most likely would have killed savage and maul would thus fight much harder but I think obi-wan would have grind'ed it out.

At 1:54 he could easily had gone for a killing blow on Kenobi but it'd have mean Obi-Wan would have killed Savage but instead he forgoes that to make absolutely sure Savage stayed alive. Its a little detail that could go unnoticed with the fast pace of the fight but it is a great piece of character development for Maul (willing to save his brother over revenge) and reaffirms the two brothers' care for each other.

    I really love the way Savage was portrayed throughout the show. He was an absolute beast in head to head combat, but it was clear that he was inexperienced. He'd go all out early in fights, and his brute strength would let him win outright. However, he used up too much energy and would burn out. The longer the fight went, the slower he'd go. He didn't know how to defend from counter-attacks, just relying on the idea that if he attacked fast enough his opponents would never have a chance to retaliate. It's strength without discipline, and against masters of defense like Kenobi it just doesn't work.

    Obi Wan is just my favorite character in the history of anything, he's always so calm and calculated, even in fights like this you can see the resemblance between himself here and himself 20 years later aged, and who hasn't faught a lightsaber duel in 20 years, always with a trick up his sleeve whether it's just buying Luke time in episode 4 or just toying with the enemy waiting for them to make a mistake.

    Obiwan's seems to have switch to form 3 (soresu) down from form 4 (ataru) which he used during their first encounter in TPM.... Soresu being the most defensive of the 7 lightsaber forms allowed him to beat Maul and his apprentice.... later he would use this same variant in ROTS to survive dooku on their second encounter and counter General Grevious', both using form 2 (makashi) and ultimately survive Anakins deadly form 5 (djem so) during their faithful duel on mustafar...

    • @RedElm747

      +Mark Ezra Burlat I thought Grievous used form V

    • @markezraburlat5785
      @markezraburlat5785 Před 8 lety +3

      RedElm747 well he was under Dooku's tutelage and Dooku does use Form 2 (Makashi).. Also Grevious cannot use Form 5 since he isn't force sensitive... Form 5 Djem So combines both physical strength and the usage of the force to increase speed and attack force... Yes he has a lot of physical strength but lacks the force to perform form 5.. Grevious uses Jar'Kai, the art of wielding multiple lightsabers at once.

    • @RedElm747
      @RedElm747 Před 8 lety +2

      Mark Ezra Burlat I think Dooku probably knew all the lightsaber forms to a high degree even if he preferred form II. Plus, using that logic shouldn't Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Anakin use form II too? And also when you see Grievous fight in the movies or the cartoons it seems nothing like how Dooku fights. As for the lack of the force I don't know but I think Grievous could certainly make up for it with his cybernetics for at least the strength bit. Maybe Grievous uses some other aggressive form... I don't know much about the lightsaber forms besides those two and form III for Obi-wan I can't even name any.

    • @markezraburlat5785
      @markezraburlat5785 Před 8 lety

      RedElm747 well yes, being a master Dooku had an acceptable knowledge of the other lightsaber forms... During his time he was one of the best swordsman in the Jedi order... Well Grevious makes up for his lack of force sensitivity with his cybernetics, but his style is still quite rugged... You should check out the Star Wars wiki if ya wanna know all 7 lightsaber forms...

    • @anthonybellino6467
      @anthonybellino6467 Před 7 lety +1

      Mark Ezra Burlat he actually new all 7 forms but by this guess I would assume he would use form 6 the most since it had all the forms mix into it (except form 7) and qui gon used form 4 and obi wan (while under qui gon) used form 4 and so did Anakin (during episode 2) but they all saw weaknesses in each other's form qui gon used more strength in a personal form 4 style (which form 2 lacked) and obi wan saw a weakness in form 4 defense when he fought maul and Anakin lost his arm to dooku so he changed his style of form to do better against dooku and Ashoka never like form 5

      He can barely take them on with two Light Sabers and it was in a really narrow space and in the end when Obi-Wan cut off Savage's arm, it was just Maul and Obi-Wan left to fight, Obi-Wan tried to strike Maul but Maul Force pushed him away.

      "Took them both" he barely helf his own during 10 seconds, having the upper hand only against Savage and doing his best to evade conflict woth Maul, then Maul low-diffed hin with that force push. Maul already beat him, so no, Obi-Wan could win against Savage at best. Besides, Savage already beat Kenobi before, so this little example shows nothing in concrete.
