- Once upon a time, we here at Joblo launched a new series aimed at digging into what happened to celebrities that were once on the A-list only to see their star power diminish over the years. Our goal was to shine a light on the people that make us say “I haven’t seen them in a while, I wonder WTF happened to them?” But a lot can happen in three years, one second you are the subject of the pilot episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity and the next you are an Academy Award Winning actor such as the case with Brendan Fraser!
But as always we must begin at the beginning and for us that beginning began on September 19, 2019 when we posted our very first WTF Happened to This Celebrity video. We wanted to start off with a bang, focusing on a celebrity that seemed to be universally loved but had fallen out of the limelight in recent years, and there was no one more perfect than Brendan Fraser for our pilot episode. But when launching into the research for Fraser, I wasn’t expecting the darkness his personal life had endured that took a toll on his professional life. By the end of the video, I wanted nothing more than for Fraser to have the comeback he so deserved. So as we start looking back at some of our previous WTFers, its time we ask the age old question: WTF happened to Brendan Fraser... you know, since the last time we asked WTF Happened to Brendan Fraser! Part Two!

I don't know if I'm getting soft as I get older but watching his speeches and seeing his sincerity gets me chocked up and I'm glad he's getting the recognition he deserves
Being a strong quiet type I don't get emotional that often. This recap brought a tear to my eye. Specially the ending.
I was about 5 y.o. when George of the Jungle came to cinemas - I watched it in total awe.
Couple of years later Mummy, Dudley, Bedazzeled, Scrubs episodes.. the star power was blinding. As the years went on more and more movies came out. Saw Encino man on VHS for the first time. Binged George of the Jungle on VHS over and over..
He is a true hero of the 90s. I'm truly glad thing are picking up for him again.

It's good that they Revisited their first celebrity spotlight, Brendan Fraser. He finally got the comeback he deserves.
No one deserved a comeback more than Brendan Fraser - he definitely earned his Oscar.

Brendan's Oscar was well deserved. His performance reminded me quite a bit of Ernest Borginine's fantastic Oscar-winning performance in Marty (1955). In fact, Marty and The Whale would make a great double feature. Very moving and emotional character studies.

I'd love to see a Movie starring Brendan and Keanu together - not only for the Movie itself which will be absolute awesome - rather for the behind the scenes footage. The both most nicest and lovable guys in Hollywood working together MUSST be nothing less than heartwarming to see.
That is literally the most wholesome Hollywood situation ever. And I am 💯 % behind this idea.👍

As a Canadian/American who has been a performer and works in the entertainment industry, Brendan has long been a role model for me. My sister and I wore out our VHS copy of Ensino Man that a friend recorded from TV. The beginning was missing from the recording and it had commercials, but we loved that movie and Link.

I was so happy to see this, and just to see Brendan in the spotlight again, he’s been acting as long as I’ve been watching movies and I’ve just always enjoyed him.

2. A bit part in "Brothers" and he'll most likely wind up on the cutting room floor in the Scorsese movie. Batgirl was cancelled, along wit Doom Patrol, and he hasn't had any offers since the Oscars. Not a bit surprised.

He and Afton are on (surprisingly) good terms. She's been entirely too kind to him. They co-host events for Abilis, the autism charity and she loaned him her makeup artist (for ballroom), as an escort for awards season.

I think it's funny (but not surprising), that Brendan's fans can only think of 2 people I could be, when there are so many other possibilities.

Apparently after his Oscar win, Fraser hasn't been employed for more movies following his Oscar win because he's very picky with his roles. That's good for him, just pick a great script and director carefully to prove himself the best rather than just searching for a paycheck to do a generic script that doesn't deserve his talent
He's also no longer a spring chicken and after all the damage he's already done to his body over the years, doing his own stunts, and gaining a lot of weight for Whale. It's not looking like he has there aren't many prospective roles he can do.

He only got The Whale because no one else wanted it. Brendan has been uninsurable (due to his drinking, cocaine use and unstable Bipolar history) for anything but bit parts, voiceovers and low budget foreign c*** since 2009. Aronofsky had to get a completion guarantee just to cast him. He had a watcher and only worked for a month. Just because he was willing to deal with Brendan, doesn't mean anyone else is.
Yeah, they should've waited like 3 more years to do that second video on him

My best friend would tell you about my love for Brendan when I first seen him in Encino Man..LOVE! Anything he was in I went to see. LOVE HIM! In comedies or dramas he always gives his best… he is a gem and I’m sooo happy he’s back where he belongs getting the love and praise he deserves. ❤❤❤❤

I loved the Whale. My favorite movie that I saw this year, so far, and I doubt that will change.
The first movie in the Dark Universe was actually supposed to be "Dracula Untold" but it didn't do well at the box office, so they dropped that idea and tried again years later with The Mummy (with Tom Cruise)
We loved ALL the BF Mummy movies, Bedazzled, even En Cino Man. Go, Brendon! Good on ya! Oh, and he was great in Crash too!

Past tense. It's cancelled. Mr. Bighead wasn't content being the voice of a robot and occasionally being onscreen (shudder), he wanted top billing, a large raise and a producer credit. Warner Bros. laughed. A lot like the judges laughed when he tried to get them to lower the alimony. That's Brendan, a big joke.
I remember watching Encino Man and thinking who is this guy with Mikey from the Goonies. Then the next movie I remember watching with him was With Honor's with Joe Pesci. That movie made me cry, and I was a tween ager then. Then The Mummy came out and I absolutely fell in love with his work. I went back and started watching anything with him in it. He is always good even in the bad one's, here's looking at you Furry Vengeance!!! He really seems to be just a really nice guy. I have never met him, but I would really like to just say thank you Brendan Fraser for using your gifts to move and influence people like myself. ps my favorite role he has brought to life is in Bedazzled, peace and love y'all 🤟

I would! Considering his name was mud at Universal even before he started blaming those movies for "destroying" his body. He knows they'll never green light anything with him again. They learned their lesson in 2008. Warner Bros. learned theirs with Batgirl. He isn't insurable for anything but bit parts, voiceovers and low budget foreign c**p due to his unstable Bipolar history, drinking and cocaine use.

You really have to work on your spoiler alerts! You can't spoil the ending of a movie and THEN add spoiler alert. The Whale is a rather new movie and not everybody has seen it yet. It's not like Star Wars and the "Luke, I'm your father" moment.
I miss him as the voice actor from the games I play one is Spartan Buck from the halo series and the other character he voiced was Cayde-6 from the Destiny series
I actually enjoyed the new mummy. It was pretty solid, and jake johnsons "american werewolf in london" type character was great.
Talking of Fraser in dramas.. With Honors seem to be a forgotten film.. I haven't seen in since I was a teenager, but even before I hit "emotional maturity" I cried my fucking eyes out at the end.
3:48 not to take away credit from Brendan Fraser, but his Mummy movies worked because the stories were better (with the exception of #3) than Tom Cruise's Mummy. heck, even #3 was better than The Mummy (2017).

The one time I saw Brendan Fraser was outside of a hotel in Dublin, Ireland.
He was hopping into a car driven by Colin Farrell. This was probably 10 - 15 years ago.

Brendan was offered $12.5m for the sequel. He turned it down because they wanted him to get back in shape and he wanted to wear a fatsuit and make fun of George letting himself go. Ironic isn't it?
