    That waiting time the driver mentioned is called "deadhead" time. It's a major factor in planning transit routes and systems. Planners have to minimize deadheading to maximize the revenue generating time. With EVs, the drivers/bosses/investors still lose money while deadheading, but the operation of the car doesn't harm the environment. With a fossil taxi or bus, you contribute the majority of the GHG harm during operations with no passengers. Bus garage location and dispatch centers for taxis are key -- and charging stations for EV taxis. The systems need them as close as possible to the locations where they can operate/make money. Delay, inefficient routing, all of it wastes money. I'm a transportation reporter and I find EVs fascinating!

    Excellent vidéo again Bjorn! Very interesting to have a taxi driver's insight (this guy is particularly nice and interesting). I'm a model 3 first day reservation holder in France, but I was disappointed by the super long wait and restriction of choices and my test drive was sadly underwhelming! It was a performance M3 and I found the ride uncomfortable. While I'm sure the non-performance will be better, and the addition of the tow hook is very nice, the e-niro sounds like a great family car for the price.

      Teslas are too "connected to the road" for us normal people; only the racing jockeys like that horse-piloting feeling, and they are always asking for "more road feeling! more road feeling!" when most of us would rather do without the constant concussions and brain damage caused by all of that "road feeling". Also, in the same vein, Teslas like to give you a lot of "road sound", unlike many of us sane humans who would rather not feel like we're driving a motorcycle when we've just come out of a sublimely quiet luxury fossil-based vehicle. The Tesla jockeys even go so far as to measure sound wrong: they find an empty smooth track and drive slow on it, which is totally missing the point. The point is that in a Mercedes you won't hear the motorcycle next to you, the bus next to you, the truck next to you, and the tires and wind noise, and the electric motor, nearly as much as you would in a Tesla. (Yes, Mercedes engines are quieter than Tesla motors in the cab.) The racing jockeys love that loud sound; most of us do not. The people driving the decisions are idiots.

    Hmm, My not quite 1 month old Kona, which has the same drive chain as the Nero, has what I would describe as a "Cogging" noise, very slight but you can hear it. I was under the impression that cogging at very low rpm, was typical for permanent magnet synchronous motors. It is only there when power is applied at very low RPM. At high RPM under acceleration there is the very pleasant "Turbo Like" inverter whine very low level. I am not sure if the cogging noise wasn't there when I fist got the car as I was suffering what I call ICE deafness. I couldn't hear the VESS! Now I can hear the VESS loud and clear if the sound system is off. The liberal application of ACDC will drown out any noise hehehehehe....

    • @NRG1985
      @NRG1985 Před 5 lety

      Cogging is specifically when the electrical machine is not powered. The PMs in the rotor tends to allign along the positions with minimum "magnetic resistance", leading to a so called cogging torque. This can be experienced for example turning by hand the motor wheel of an e-bike.When the electrical machine is powered, then the torque is however pulsating due two contributions: the previous cogging torque plus the interaction between the stator and the rotor magnetic field. And globally this is specifically called torque ripple. As the speed increses, the rotor inertia acts as a filter, therefore the impact of this torque ripple is practically reduced.The significant contribution of the noise produced by an electrical machine, with this characteristic "electric" whine, is actually coming not from this oscillating torque, but from the vibration of the stator (which behaves like a speaker) due to "pulsating" magnetic forces. In a simple way, the rotor and stator would stick together like when you place a magnet close to an iron board.Actually the noise topic in electrical machine is of particular interest.It is right that an EV is, in principle, way less noisy than an ICE vehicle, in terms of intensity (volume). What changes is actually the quality of the noise: the EV produces normally an high frequency noise which, for long rides, can be however disturbing.

    I just dropped a relative to airport and I was able to fit two large suitcases in back of model 3. There was space in Front boot for cabin baggage. Backpack ,neck pillow and knick-knacks went in the extra rear boot space ( where Stepney tyre goes ) below the cover.

    Still it could be worse - owners of Kia Sportsge 1995-1998. Had servicing periods of 6,000mi/9,600km or every 6mths. That must have been a wallets killer.
