The problem is that if you’re an actor in the U.S who starts taking drugs, the public feels sympathy for you and hope for recovery as you enter rehab - but if it happens to an actor in Korea, the public vilifies you with constant hate until you feel like you can’t live anymore. Not saying drugs aren’t bad, but in Korea they treat the use of it like they murdered someone when they’re really hurting themselves.
I've been living in Korea for 5 years. Korea is a developed country but mental health support is so lacking. Seach Park Bom. Moreover, Korean law is still behind. For example, some anti depressant medicine are still considered illegal drugs in Korea.
Their society is unforgiving. I hope if this happens again to anyone, they should choose to move to another country instead of ending their life. Don't feel trap and no way out. There is always a way out. The media also have blood on their hands as well. They hounded him to no end.
Sadly, some people defaming him for being a cheater. No matter how much you explain, its his wife's business, they still insist and acted as if they are the one being cheated. 🙄
I loved this man's acting. He was beautiful! He was so natural & believable. I'm so angry. I'm angry at all the people & institutions who did this to him! Those who earned money from his acting & endorsements threw him away the moment it was implied he made a mistake. You are cruel & unconscionable for this! Nobody is perfect. Nobody. And people are too precious to give up on!! There are few who can't be rehabilitated. The media who badgered him & inflated the accusations. You don't care how much you hurt others. I hope you choke on your money & guilt for pushing him. Shame on all of you!!!
I’m a scouser and I did not know this man at all, but I was stunned at what was LEGITIMATELY ALLOWED to happen to this fine man. So what he wasn’t perfect, at least this human being doesn’t have somebody else blood on his hands like these people ( who incidentally made fortunes off of him) it’s tragic and yet the people who are supposed to care don’t give two shites . Profit over people
@leahquispe4569 You people sure are cold-hearted. As if any of you live perfect lives and never make mistakes. I'm not sure what the truth is and what exactly happened, but I do know that it is none of our business and Koreans especially need to work on their judgemental bullying culture. It's disturbing.

my mister helped a lot of people, including me in one of the darkest periods in my life. coffee prince was also one of the first korean dramas i ever watched. his performance in that drama and others were one of a kind. he will surely be missed by many. RIP LEE SUN-KYUN ;(
Same. I am 32yo grown ass man, venezuelan, straight. I just catched that kdrama in Netflix saw that it was high scored in metacritic and appeared in many high tier tops of kdrama series and decided to give it a go! Didn't disappoint. I was in one of the lowest point in my life. Probably the worst moment ever, I think. Just recently my partner of 9 years and I broke up, I was alone, living in a shitty single bedroom, broke as fuck, no friends, no relatives in a foreign country. Both of the main characters suffered from depression, isolation, breakheart, trauma. So I felt like a connection with them. And his character, the Mister, was betrayed. Although mine wasn't the same, it felt somewhat relatable. His role in Parasite was incredible too. He had some many roles to give to us, so much life, and so many hugs, kisses, words of advice and love to give to his beloved children and paramour. And all for greed and envy. Society is fucked.
He was such an amazing actor! What a disgrace is police and media in South Korea! Shame on everyone who drive this talented man to suicide! Rest in peace Lee Sun Kyun. You will be remembered forever! 😢💔🕊️
The should have dropped the case, if the first was negative and even the second.... why the need to keep hounding him... you're right it's unbelievable, such a great actor
Usually high profile conviction made by prosecutors and police would result in a quicker promotion or as they say a Golden Ticket. Not saying for Korea alone but generally in most countries.

Let’s not forget that his death was caused by BLACKMAILED and let’s give a spotlight to this “ BLACKMAIL “ and bring justice to him , this ajhuma that she is blackmailing, she needs to be held accountable for this , she needs to be charged with blackmailing, committing murder and intentionally killing the victims indirectly
It's not murder, just blackmailing, selling drugs and maybe sex. It looks like this woman gave big names to the police for a lighter sentence. The investigaton was biased from the beginning. I know, when BTS was mentioned, that it's fake. I don't say that they are saints, but they have top security and conditioned to behave well, because one's fault could harm the others.
The news literally had me in shock! I am still in disbelief. I loved this actor. He was so talented! Loved him in Coffee Prince, Pasta, Parasite and my all time favourite My Mister. Can't believe he's no more. Authorities, netizens all killed him.
I'm sad and it's a tragedy. The media hounded him and left him no peace. For me, he will always be a superstar in my heart and he made himself immortal with the Oscar-winning film PARASITE. I loved him in "Coffee Prince" and he will always remain a Korean top actor. Rest in peace. May his soul find the peace he never found in life. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
He was amazing in all of his movies and dramas. But to me, his masterpiece is truly "MY MISTER". This K-drama is LSK's own personal favourite. Love love love "My Mister" and LSK. 😢😢
It's not the media or the police. The 7M is the issue. His company should have protected him after all that they have earned from him and negotiated this amount down or delayed payments.
I just want to say as a Canadian observing all of this for the last several weeks in the press right up till today when he committed suicide he was in the forefront of the press. It's shocking how the Korean press and Korean netizens hound their celebrities to the point of suicide. There is no question that Korea now stands way above other countries in rates of these social problems. We used to say it was Japan but Korea has outpaced every other country in the civilized world when it comes to these kinds of problems. It wasn't until I became interested in BTS and listened to their lyrics and researched the background of the history of the times they were written during as well as read other Korean philosophers' works that I became aware of the magnitude of the problem. While it's true that some did have depression (ex.Moonbin) many others didn't and I believe this actor did not have such a history. The outrageous treatment of what in many civilized countries is considered minor or negligible infraction (esp given the exhaustive negative drug tests) is truly a manifestation of persisting deep problems in a society still governed by corrupt chaebols and governments resulting in tragedies such as the Itaewon and the MV Sewol ferry disasters. None of the people responsible for these was treated as harshly as for ex this actor. The way SKorea loves having its celebrities as part of the show of having reached the "sophistication" and level of importance of the "west" is the most blatantly superficial choice a society could possibly strive for. They are put on pedestals, idolized only to be torn down brutally at the slightest misperception of not confirming to the fickle public's ideal of the moment.

And ... nobody knows the facts about a celebrity ... a human ... his financialm professional and emotional issues. All Humans feel the same. But One soul is the poorest and strong, other soul is the richest and weak. Dont blame a country by your opinion if you are not in their shoes,
I’m still in disbelief, truly heartbreaking. SK, please stop putting people up on pedestals they didn’t ask to be put on in the first place, then when they show you they’re human too you make them feel like they’re worthless. Regardless of what he did or did not do, he was a beautiful human being that had the right to make mistakes, learn from them and better himself, and people took that away from him just because he was in the public eye. SK, you lost an incredible talent who was obviously proud of sharing his culture through his art. And to his family who lost a loved one, a husband, a father, a friend… I pray for peace during this difficult time. Please, stop beating up people when they’re at their lowest instead stand by them and reach a helping hand. The thought that such a beloved person around the world must have felt absolutely abandoned and alone in his last moments is heartbreaking. Remember we all make mistakes the only difference is that ours are not broadcasted to the whole world. Please show grace to all people…

Drugs were not the only problem for him. Some people were hurt by his infidelity. He was the husband and father of a family, and also caused unforgettable sadness to the family members left behind by the sad choice of suicide. I'm sorry, but I don't sympathize with him. As I said, Korean society is strict about the moral issues of these celebrities and other public figures. I don't know if there is anything wrong with this. In Korea, for example, even a talented athlete, if he or she is found to have bullied children at school in the past, will be severely criticized socially and cannot be selected for the national team. In severe cases, he or she may have to retire from professional life. Unlike Korea, on the other hand, in many countries, including the U.S., people value talent more than moral issues. I don't know what is right.

This is utterly heartbreaking. He was such a wonderfully talented actor. He was also a well renowned family man with a stellar reputation. I can only imagine the amount of pain he was in to make such a decision, as well as not wanting to bring shame on his family. People online have been like vultures picking at him with their negative comments without knowing the truth which probably wore him down on top of the weight of the allegations and financial burden on his family. His wife is an actress and he was probably worried about this affecting her career, as well as his two boys possibly being treated badly in school due to the publicity. He may have done something wrong, or as he said he was set up by bad people who probably saw they could financially gain by taking advantage of a well known actor. We will never know. Obviously he was in great pain and the billions of won he was fined was overwhelming, and didn't see a way out of it. I wonder how the negative commenters would have felt if they were in the same situation. The same people who dragged him online with negative comments that surely had an affect on his mental health are the same ones shaming him now about being selfish for wanting to end it all. They can't have it both ways. What culpability do they have in his decision to end it? We all make mistakes, and obviously he did, but shaming NEVER makes a situation better.
What a great loss. To the advertisers and production companies that dropped them I hope they receive similar treatment they gave him. Peace and love to the family.

My Mister is my most favorite KDrama. I loved it so much that I've watched it 3 times now. I really admired him as an actor. It's just really sad how celebrities are treated this way in South Korea. When the fact is that these celebrities are one of the biggest reason why South Korea is being looked up to globally. All it takes is just some random sick person to accuse them of bullying or drug use or whatever. It doesn't matter if they're innocent or not. KNetizens, the media and authorities will already judge and condemn them even without substantial evidence. Even if they're not yet proven guilty. It's like this country and it's people are so obsessed with punishing celebrities. They can't even wait until these celebrities are actually proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
What a sad sad terrible tragedy! 😢 It's so sad.. he had to take his own life.. Wish he had some good support during his time of trouble.Unfortunately, he didn't get any. Both drug tests negative. After 3 rounds of questioning not a shred of evidence was produced by the police. Yet he is immediately condemned by society, all of his projects dropped, no way to make money to pay the penalties, no public support from his industry during the process. But, now miraculously after he's gone the blackmailer has been arrested. The ease at which the public abandoned, shunned and ridiculed him without evidence is brutal and stunning. This is tragic and I pray that he and those closest to him will find some peace.🌼🙏

In a culture deeply rooted in preserving one's dignity (saving face), his only resolution was to sacrifice his own to safeguard those in his proximity because it was deemed preferable this way. It's a poignant reflection, underscoring the need for Asian culture to evolve beyond superficial appearances. As an Asian myself, this remains a prevalent issue, irrespective of geographical location, as the community dictates your moral high ground.
I recently re-watched My Mister for the umpteenth time not aware that Lee Sun-Kyun has passed. I'm devasted by this news. Pretty common in Korea for famous people to be heavily criticized and shamed if they do something against the norm or are victims in a crime. How about out of control authorities, the press and toxic bullies on the internet take at least SOME responsibility for Lee Sun-kyun's death? Considering his negative drug tests......and the fact that anything else he may or may not have done was for him and his wife to work out privately.....WHY was he treated so harshly? Why was he interrogated to the point of absolute physical and mental exhaustion? Why was this man HOUNDED day and night, without relief, until he felt there was no other option but to make the ultimately devastating choice he made??? I can't even imagine how horrified and distraught people who **actually** cared about him, rather than those who are just paying lip service, must feel right now knowing he was practically driven to this sad end.

Agree.
I agree .
Move to a country whose people do not judge you but sympathize and help you .
This is not depression alone. This is the toxic media, social pressure and entertainment industry sensitivity tied to cancel culture.
I’m a scouser and I did not know
this man at all, but I was stunned at what was LEGITIMATELY ALLOWED to happen to this fine man. So what he wasn’t perfect, at least this human being doesn’t have somebody else blood on his hands like these people ( who incidentally made fortunes off of him) it’s tragic and yet the people who are supposed to care don’t give two shites . Profit over people
Muy cierto,qué mala imagen tiene la sociedad Coreana ...
He is a Grown Adult who made some terrible choices and they had consequences.....
@leahquispe4569 You people sure are cold-hearted. As if any of you live perfect lives and never make mistakes. I'm not sure what the truth is and what exactly happened, but I do know that it is none of our business and Koreans especially need to work on their judgemental bullying culture. It's disturbing.
Totally agree with you! Shame on you, korean society
A real tragedy. It's so sad he believed this was the best thing to do. I sincerely send my condolences to his family and close friends, especially to his children. He will be missed and remembered. I hope you have found your peace, Lee 🤍 and I hope your loved ones can find theirs too. I send my prayers in hopes that his family can find strength during the difficult times ahead. My thoughts are with all who are mourning. 🤍
Just so sad

Fiquei muito triste.
Imaginando a pressão psicológica, que tristeza, até quando!?
my mister helped a lot of people, including me in one of the darkest periods in my life. coffee prince was also one of the first korean dramas i ever watched. his performance in that drama and others were one of a kind. he will surely be missed by many.
😭😭😭
He was such an amazing actor! What a disgrace is police and media in South Korea! Shame on everyone who drive this talented man to suicide! Rest in peace Lee Sun Kyun. You will be remembered forever! 😢💔🕊️
i will forever miss him. my daughter love him so much
Why they kept pursuing him even after he tested negative for drugs is beyond me.
The should have dropped the case, if the first was negative and even the second.... why the need to keep hounding him... you're right it's unbelievable, such a great actor
Usually high profile conviction made by prosecutors and police would result in a quicker promotion or as they say a Golden Ticket. Not saying for Korea alone but generally in most countries.
korean police is the worst. they ignore civilian cases and focus on high profile incidents like this to stir drama.
SK politics create celebrity scandals to divert attention away from the corruption of the person in power, in this case, the First Lady is supposed to be under investigation for corruption and fraud of various sorts.
They're corrupt. And its election season and PM is in trouble so this helped distract gullible people with gossip
Who's she?
@@nayanakv8629the same person that tried to drag BigBang G Dragon but failed
It's not murder, just blackmailing, selling drugs and maybe sex. It looks like this woman gave big names to the police for a lighter sentence. The investigaton was biased from the beginning. I know, when BTS was mentioned, that it's fake. I don't say that they are saints, but they have top security and conditioned to behave well, because one's fault could harm the others.
I heard on news that the case is closed after his death 😢😢😢😢
So, who is she? What's her name? It's better to let the whole world know the name of the true culprit and not hide them from public.
The news literally had me in shock! I am still in disbelief. I loved this actor. He was so talented! Loved him in Coffee Prince, Pasta, Parasite and my all time favourite My Mister. Can't believe he's no more. Authorities, netizens all killed him.
Heartbreaking. He was a national treasure for Korea. One of the most talented actors I’ve ever seen on screen. Condolences to his family and friends.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@pepsi2022 i totally understand aware of South Korea and Indian celebrities like Sushant singh rajput important better system bring investigation justice for Lee sun kyun.

Please show grace to all people…
I couldn't have put it better myself. We (humans) need to be kinder to each other.
Well said. There is no perfect person and the SK society should offer it's citizens a pathway for redemption/forgiveness
No one is above the law in south korea, not even the president. Do not blame the entire country but the individuals who break the law.
@@loelds4817 Ok, so as no one is above the law, the result is that you crucify everyone even when there's no proof? Even before the person is judged and found guilty? Even when the test come negative? What kind of logic and moral standard is this? So, in SK the law is "everybody is guitly until they prove innocence"? Because the correct saying is "everybody is innocent until they're proved guilty" and the onus of proof is responsability of the accuser.

SK politics create celebrity scandals to divert attention away from the corruption of the person in power, in this case, the First Lady is supposed to be under investigation for corruption and fraud of various sorts.

Both drug tests negative. After 3 rounds of questioning not a shred of evidence was produced by the police. Yet he is immediately condemned by society, all of his projects dropped, no way to make money to pay the penalties, no public support from his industry during the process. In a culture deeply rooted in preserving one's dignity (saving face), his only resolution was to sacrifice his own to safeguard those in his proximity because it was deemed preferable this way. It's a poignant reflection, underscoring the need for Asian culture to evolve beyond superficial appearances. REALLY???

Drug test was negative let the man go tf 🙄 whoever that bar hostess was hope she knows karma’s a btch cuz she indirectly have his blood on her hand
@@myheartbelongstokimnamjoon7540 that cunning lady should be held accountable, m so angry abt her
Cyber bullying should be punished by the law.
@@ridita5221 this is not cyber bullying, he was blackmailed, it’s a blackmail case
rest in peace lee sunkyun. one of the best actors in korea. i was obsessed with his voice hahah i loved it so much. what happened to him was so wrong and i feel so empty since the news yesterday. i enjoyed his dramas a lot. the last few months must've been unbearable for him to commit such an act. hoping there's a little bit of peace now. praying for Jeon Hyejin and kids...
My Mister 😢😢😢 u were My Hero !! I loved this show! I lived on it! I wa going through a sad time and that show kept my mind off it! And other works too. Such a handsome and talented actor he was! This is crazy! I suffer from depression too and to see he commuted su!c!de hurts. Like we hold on through people like him and then we learn he had it worse than us and couldn't hold on anymore. So sad I won't see more of him in other films/shows! I can't believe it!
Korea ! will anyone be held criminally responsible for this tragedy and blackmail ? Someone destroyed the life of an outstanding actor - I'm furious !!! I send my deepest condolences to His family and His friends - I grieve with you 😭😭😭😭💔💔
So sad. My condolences to his wife and 2 sons. 🙏🏽
Rest in Peace 😔 Thank you for sharing your talent with us. This is so sad.
I’m still speechless…
RIP Ahjussi 💔
May God comfort his family and friends.
after this im really proud of Kwon Jiyong for staying strong through these year
Yoo Ah In too. He was criticised more due to his substance use allegations being true due to positive test results but still he is holding out pretty well.
@@anjanabose2448 people in Korea should reflect on whats going on around them. Its easy for them to point finger on people ... Just like what happend to Sulli and Hara it must be so tiring and depressing living there.
They don't, they are a frustrated society latching on any piece of meat offered on a plate for them to devour. @@Afraa_Mahven And like many governments today (including mine, I'm French) the priority is definitely not people's well being. Almost like they are planning on alienating us all, people are frustrated and frustration leads to violence.
You never know what might happen in the future.
Probably a big snowball effect. None of his acquaintances can be associated with him due to risk of losing / getting penalties in their own contracts. So, probably felt pretty isolated.
Horrible
RIP He must've been feeling so lost and disheartened. May his family be given strength and compensation for the agony they have had to endure for the past months prior to and years after his demise
We are going to miss him. Really sad to lose such a great actor and person. My heart goes to the family and friends in this horrible moment for them. 🖤🖤
Condolences to he's family's children and he's wife close friends R.I.P. Noone will harm you anymore you're in a happy place and in peace you will be always remembered by your family's, children friends and the one close to your heart your wife 😢😢
Loved his moves ,peace at last ,death is like sleep conscious of nothing ,awaiting the new system Jehovah and his Kindom to come 🙏❤️
❤❤❤ one of my favorite actor. I'm in shock that he had no other way out than to take the route he did.
Am văzut aproape toate serialele și filmele în care a jucat. O sa le revăd mereu ! D-zeu sa te aiba aproape și sa - ți dea liniștea sufletului tău de mare artist!
I really really fans of his acting, his voice, and really excited everytime his new drama came out. .
So sad, he left so soon. He was one of my favorite Korean actors. May you find peace in the after life.
Que ese era el "único camino"...no Querido, no lo era. Tu vida valía mucho, mucho más. Los que te queríamos éramos más. Qué dolor! No puedo imaginar cuánto debió haber sufrido 💔
Still can't believe it... Praying for His happiness in His next life... Sending Love and Support for His Family and Friends... 🤍🕊🫂
I still can't believe it! Rest in peace, Lee Sun-kyun.😥🙏
