That's cool to hear. I'm not terrified of snakes, but this part was exceptionally well animated. The snake looks almost lifelike in its movements at times, so I can only imagine what it must feel like to someone like you who fears these creatures. For me, another creature I thought was exceptionally well animated and grossed me the hell out were the giant spiders in Castlevania Lords Of Shadow.
I bet the devs are super proud of this snake.

It's implyied in the game that after the Sakura Dragon arrived in Japan he basically overshadow every other deity, one of them possibly being the Great Snakes. Killing it felt like a truly horrific deed, almost as an heresy not to the snake but to the world itself. I didn't felt proud at all.

There's actually 2 of them. Remember the old lady that asks for rice says there are 2 fruits of the serpent, one fresh and one dried up thus the Fresh Serpent Viscera and Dried Serpent Viscera. Only one is killable though, the one where you stab it in the head and gives you the Fresh Serpent Viscera. The other one locks you inside a house when you get the Dried Serpent Viscera.
glad someone mentions it. the way the video is cut makes it appear as one snake, but as someone who got the Fresh Viscera first I can attest: the one in the cave is a second snake.

Can attest to the same thing. After killing the first snake through jumping down from the ledge accessed from Senpou Temple, I went to this cave and found a snake which was a) alive! and b) shows no signs of being previously blinded. There are two snakes and I am still trying to figure out if the second one is killable.

I think the Serpent you encounter in Ashina Outskirts and Sunken Valley Bridge is different from the one in the Cave Shrine. The one in the Cave Shrine stays alive even after you kill the one at the bridge.
