In an effort to strengthen their marriage, Teddy and Tammy Lynn entertained the idea of having a child. After trying various methods to no avail, they decide to adopt. However, Teddy discovers that the government does not consider him a real person, but merely a piece of property, so not only is he unable to adopt, but he also loses all of his civil rights as a human being. He not only cannot adopt a child, but also loses all of his civil rights as a "person".
