Its 2017 and I'm thinking about buying one because I love the look of this tiny thing.

Me too!
It's 2018 and I just bought one :)
Its 2019 and am still using mine. :)
To be fair, I filmed this five years ago when HD camcorders weren't readily available!
There's an explanation in my Dp1 review at cameralabs . com.
Thanks! If you haven't already seen them, please do check out the full reviews which go with the videos at cameralabs . com!
Cheers! This is just a brief over-view though - be sure to check out the full reviews at cameralabs . com!
I'd recommend reading the full review at cameralabs . com.
Have you read my full review at cameralabs . com? There's more details there. But I don't think we should be making excuses for products in this day and age, nor should we have to find workarounds. Sure you can shoot a moving subject if you pre-focus the camera, but what if the subject moves beyond that point? You're stuck. Ultimately this is an $800 camera with some serious performance issues and I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't point them out.
Hi Hardnor, glad you saw the site - I have reviewed the Fuji F30 though back in November 2006 and still use it as a reference. You can find it in the reviews section at cameralabs . com. In fact I used it as the comparison against the Panasonic FX500 in its review if you check the results pages. PS - the FX500 is not my flagship - it was Panasonic's flagship compact when launched, but that's now the LX3.
Hi, I'm afraid I won't be reviewing the SD14 now as it's getting on. Sorry!
Hmm, it works fine over here - maybe try again later as it's only been uploaded in the past couple of hours...
the DP 1 is like a back to the past camera that resembles the film camera a lot!!!
Clikc the link to the right of the video to go to my fullr eview - updated pricing's there.
Nice shirt Gordon. You're a Legend...
Thank you your video helped me acquire critical focus. I has having a hard time manual focusing. Thanks Gordon!!
Glad to help! Especially from a video that's almost ten years old!
As always, this is one of the best reviews on a rather 'special' compact camera.
Mr. Laing, may i ask if you will be reviewing the Sigma SD14 with the same Foveon X3 sensor as the Sigma DP1?
I'm a newbie at SLRs and digital photography but and I'm pretty interested with the Foveon sensors. Some sites would say that it can match 14MP CMOS or CCD sensors in terms of image quality (especially color resolution) though the individual sensor for the Foveon X3 is only about 4.7MP.
Thanks!
Enjoy my Sigma dp1 in 2021
Thanks for another great review! $700 seems WAY too expensive for what it offers. You can buy BOTH a D40 and a reasonable compact for that much! I think each have their own uses- perhaps it's too soon to try to combine the best of both worlds.
I agree, it can look plasticky, but it is in fact mostly made of metal and pretty robust...
Easy - Ricoh doesn't send them in to test.
Great review as always Gordon. The camera looks very plasticky and cheaply made in the video. Is that accurate? It seems that for $800 they could have used higher quality materials.
the panasonic lumix fx500 is the (your) flagship compact camera? Have you ever seen fuji finepix f20/f30/f31fd images? :-)
sorry ignore my comment - i ve seen on your web site, you ve tested the f30 yet :) - so sad that not one manufactor produces 6 megapixel on 1/1/7" anymore
oh, I didn't know this camera is already 5 years old :O
I'm not doing it.
sigma DP2S IS AWESOME
interesting, that you post this video only in 360p while you're making a review of a camera having 46 MP :D
i waaant it. this camera or a leica D-lux 3.
yes, I thought it was the SIGMA DP1 Merrill. but though ;)

Kool
@malayneum
14 MP / 3 ;)
This camera is weird....
lol
I own a lot of camera's and a lot of lenses. About result, well the Sigma DP Merrills deliver the most beautiful result. The detail is not from this world. I own the 1, 2 and 3 and they not my camera's for everyday. I always make my photo's with Merrills with 100 iso. But O brother, the reuslt can be so good....
