    hah you got that right. I remember in a documentary Keith says that Charlie hated the fame and that he wouldn't care if nobody knew the stones, as long as he could make music, that's a true musician, not like a lot of the commercial crap we get nowadays.

    Down to earth, no nonsense, sensible interview featuring common sense replies and a tongue-in-cheek humorous slant from Bill. Very restrained, in both attitude and lifestyle. Compare that to the shameless love of celebrity status exhibited by a lot of performers in the public eye. Belies the media-projected image of the Rolling Stones.

      @@mikeivey8169 I first got to see them in 1989 and on the Steel Wheels tour I didn't get why everyone was saying they were so old even then. Mick and Keith were 46, Charlie 48, Ron only 42, I thought they kicked ass at that show and the many times I've seen them since. Now bands play all the time into their 50s, 60s and 70s and it's no big deal.

    • @christopherpatefield6150
      @christopherpatefield6150 Před rokem +1

      @@Skycladatdusk78 The culture has changed. Pop/rock stars of the 1950s and 60's were closer to teenagers in age and were expected to pack it in or become light entertainers (if they could) in their 20's as their audience grew up and were expected to listen to crooners, jazz or classical music etc. The concept of adults listening to teenage music was not a thing back then. There was a big generation gap. However since the 70's audiences have stayed with their favourite bands as they aged together and are not embarrassed about listening to music made originally for teens and 20's.

      Actually I know that he was messing with the hard stuff by this time because Jerry Garcia used to talk privately to his peers about how Charlie always had better gear than Keef around this time. He used to rely on The Stones and Pete Townshend to keep him stocked up in the "Persian Brown" and the pure coke that he could easily convert to freebase in order to be able to tour overseas in Europe etc. without risking the WD's. This routine began around '74 and continued till about the mid to late 80's when they all started to lie to each about sobering up and things got much more clandestine and hush-hush.

    About Margo saying Charlie's so normal. Everyone of them are "normal". Those crazy TV, shows... interviews and etc... scenes are "marketing" of the business. Could a rock and roll band with 5 priests exist? Would they call attention to their art? Surely, no. They could make the greatest music, but any of them wouldn't be recognized by the audience as a Rolling Stone life style. that's my point.
