    02:09 This is the best short explanation of cast vs forged that I’ve heard. Doesn’t get all technical, but it is the basic gist. If needing to explain again, explain like this. I’m a mechanical engineer, and I approve your message. 03:28 But should immediately follow with this. And I don’t approve of the sushi.

    Excellent video! I wish I had been aware of you guys when I bought my first set of aftermarket wheels for my 2004 CrownVic LX. Fortunately I didn’t go wild the first time around and stuck reasonably close to factory. I went from factory 16x7 w. 45 offset to 17x7.5 w. 42 offset. I went from 225/60R16 Michelin to 235/55R17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ (love these tires). I kept my factory wheels for my winter tires (I live in Canada).
    Note, too, that I also upgraded my front stabilizer bar as well as added a good rear bar. I did that before adding the dual exhaust.
    But now after four years I want to upgrade for a better look. I’ve narrowed the choice down to two candidates. The first is an 18x8 with 40 offset (Fast FC04 in Gloss Silver) which would mean getting new 235/18R50R18 Michelins. The second choice is a 17x8 with 35 offset (XXR 555 in Chromium Black) wherein I’d get to keep my existing tires that have very low mileage. The 18in. wheel is the more optimum fit and the 17in. wheel would poke out a bit more, about 5mm. or 3/16 in. The 17in. wheel would also cost less because I wouldn’t have to buy new tires.

      When I do the wheel upgrade I’ll do that. I’m hoping to do the upgrade when I take my winter tires off in the next few weeks (depending on the weather). Other than the wheels the car looks stock except for the Stainless Works dual exhaust and the chromed honeycomb style police grille (gives it a touch of muscle car vibe on the front). The car is in excellent condition with only 120,000 kms. (about 74,000 miles) on it.

    My weakness when picking out wheels & tires are wheel sizes
    & tire sizes. When I ask for help on Instagram or in FB groups people here in Maryland who mostly follow me on Instagram are not every helpful instead of helping they like to bash or make fun. I tend to get more help from people in Cali or FL the most. The only FB groups I can find sadly are here in Maryland or the DMV in general (DC. Maryland & Virginia). Or groups with dudes who act like females they're not helpful however I found an only female car enthusiast group the amount of help is far more helpful compared to males also less childish & bashing & name-calling. Forged wheels still are made from a blank that was made via casting. A cast blank. -- and machining out metal to basically cutout the shape of the wheel is not actually forging. Actual forged wheels uses about 2 million lb/inch press to literally force the blank into its shape. --however, most makers just buy the blanks that they use. And, the blanks are still typically gravity cast blanks. - so let’s keep it real and honest FI. Real forged wheels are ridiculously expensive, but some are affordable. Reality is that most ppl will never need the capacity of a forged wheel anyway. - Thus, comes in rotary forged.

    • @FitmentIndustries

      I’d say look up the vehicle you’re looking to run, and see what wheels they’re running! Can also use our gallery to get a good idea if anyone is running big brakes on your model car. 👏🏾 take a look! -Edgar

    Hi,
    Nice job with these educational videos!
    I would like to know when the scrub radius could affect the car's handling or could cause parts wear? Every day I'm seeing lots of cool wheels that mostly are sticking outside the fenders or just a little outside the usual fitment (the one the car's manufacturer recommends), which makes the car look very cool... but isn't that affecting the car's behavior?
    It would be nice if you'll be making a video about this with some visual/real examples.
    Thanks!

    • @FitmentIndustries
      @FitmentIndustries  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the support! Usually with a little bit of poke, everything would wear evenly as long as you have a proper aligment. Driveability it doesnt really affect much at all, as long as you have all the specs correct for your setup, it's all fine! I've been through all the setups in my time - poke, flush, mexiflush, never an issue. 🙂 Hope this answers some of your questions! -Edgar

    Looking to change my 5Zigen Alloys for my 95 Honda Prelude. I'm finding 4x114.3 a very difficult fit for alloy wheels. I find alot of designs I like but they don't come in that PCD size.
    Thought about XXR527 on a 16x8.25 but the ET looks like it's 108mm. As OEM wheels are ET +55 I reckon they would only fit with Aftermarket Coilovers. How much scrub radius can be acceptable for it seriously affected handling?
