Never really looked at or wanted Citi until the custom cash card came out.
Interesting.
I got the City SIMPLICITY AND THE CITI COSTCO. Now i an interested in both the CITY DOUBLE CASH BACK AND THE CITI CUSTOM CASH.
@@JoseFernandez-wu8pj If you are not going the AA route for Citi double cash then a PC from simplicity card to the Double Cash is a perfect move. Citi has a 4th card that charges up the premier by 10% and something to consider
Would say citi is worth looking at over chase
Iâm over the chase rule
5/24 got approve for citi double cash might do citi trifecta
And then thereâs me who doesnât travel.
Introducing the Nofecta. Team cash back, no annual fees
Amen!!!
The "Nofecta" made me chuckle.
Team cash back here as well!
@crypto dev yeah agreed, I recommend anyone whoâs not sure between cash back and travel to get chase cards.
me too all that travel stuff doesn't matter to me. give me straight cash back
Iâve watched a lot of your videos but this is the best in my opinion. Great topic, a lot of detail, but still a very tight video and not overly long. Perfect.
Wow, I didn't even think about the Citi Custom Cash opening up the possibility of a full trifecta with Citi. This video is INCREDIBLY well done, thank you for the info!
Thanks Ben for referencing my comment on the previous video about getting an AA card then downgrading to the Double Cash!
For both set ups, I still would favor the Chase due to a few very important factors:
- Chase has a load of travel protections as well as primary CDW, whereas Citi removed them back in 2019.
- Sapphire Reserve's $300 travel credit & $60 DoorDash credit knocks the effective annual fee down to $190, while the $250 travel credit on the Prestige drops its effective annual fee down to $245.
- Based on TPG's points evaluation, UR points are valued at 2 cents per point while TY points are 1.7 cents.
- Sign up bonus on both the Preferred & Reserve are higher than the Premier & Prestige, respectively.
The citi set up with the Premier is probably the best value for points over the long term but not having hotel or domestic airline transfer partners holds them back
One thing to consider with regard to signup bonuses... Citi lets you churn the bonus on the Premier or Prestige after 24 months. Chase makes you wait 48 months. So if the Citi Premier stays at 60k bonus vs the 100k bonus on the CSP which likely won't last, you come out ahead with the Premier because you can get it twice as often.
Thank you! As a beginner I will be doing the chase trifecta .. currently have CSP and CFF .. I just need the CUF
CFU*
An even better setup is the Chase Trifecta with the Citi Custom Cash. You can have your cake and eat it too
Don't forget the Discover It card as well.
@@mikebarnes2294 already have it, I still need the citi custom cash, I will apply for it after I hit the CSP signup bonus.
@@pedro4670 did you get hacked?
I'm not a fan of Citi. I have average 740 score and 4% utilization and cards among other brands from 5 to 10k and I applied for the citi card to transfer a balance for 0% 18 months. And they approved me for $500 lol. I was like what am I supposed to do with that?
Citi sucks
@A E yep. It won't effect my credit either way, even if I never activated it. Just sucks I used a hard inquiry for nothing.
Amex for high *limits đ„°
- ya thats a shitty CL, but at least you can request a CL online with no hp every 6mths. i think they started me at $1800 and i got it up to $6700.
Slap in the face!! Shredded it!!
CSR CC gives you PP lounges and other perks you will have a hard time quantifying the value of. Citi is bare bones.
This is heating up! I think Iâll do a citi trifecta since I already have the double cash
Yikes
I just went into a chase today and applied for the ink unlimited (approved đ„ł) and I also recently updated my sapphire preferred to the reserve! The agent I spoke to said âitâs a good thing, I recently heard theyâre talking about no longer offering the $300 travel credit to anyone applying (after a potential announcement)â⊠but those already with the card will be grandfathered in. Maybe just a rumor, but heard it from a chase branch
I do like the double cash card - but I never use it. I moved all my daily spending (minus 5% cards) to my 2% Fidelity card. It feeds my mutual fund investing on cruise control.
I use the Fidelity card as well. After having it for almost a year, they offered me 3% on everything for 2 months
Citi ending many of the protection benefits (secondary car rental insurance, warranty extension) on the Double Cash and many of their non branded cards has ended much of my use for the Double Cash card. So as attractive as the Custom Cash is, I rather use other cards instead (Fidelity, Freedom Flex, Costco Visa, etc.) for cash back.
I believe it is like you said. Chase is better for hotels and Citi for Mideastern and Asian Airlines. Chase is better if you can get the personal Chase Trifecta and then add on an Ink Business card.
What about the AMEX trifecta?! đ
Me personally I would love the Chase trifecta but the 5/24 rule limits me out plus there's a lot of other cards I want so I would do Citi Double Cash, Chase Freedom Flex, and AMEX Platinum. Yeah the points are worth more with the Reserve or Preferred but me personally I just don't like being limited like that and i'm gonna do what I wanna do so if I ever go beyond 5/24 after that it is what it is.
that what I said...
Can we get a video comparing the chase trifecta to the capital one trifecta since capital one kinda gave their cards a stimulus package đŠ
now that would be a good one , Hopefully He "ll do one soon .
CSR Trifecta + Custom Cash for groceries.
Did anyone else know the Hyatt card is currently 5X on spend until the end of June?
It seems like the only reason to get the Freedom Unlimited is to pair it with a Sapphire, otherwise you can do better with any of the 2% cards available.
Well considering I'm 4/24 and chase have me the cold shoulder denying me a freedom flex this morning I'll say Citi.
Thatâs awful!! Chase is unbelievable!!
I have to wait another 2 weeks before my 30days (just picked up the CSP) is up before applying for the Flex.
When I went in person to the citi branch it was 1000 spend and $300 cash back. Vs the 750 & 200 cash back
Great vid...thanks for the tip on getting the 'double cash bonus'...Cheers
Can I use cards from multiple issuers, then transfer to the same partner (Virgin for example), and then combine those through the partner?
Can you do a updated versiĂłn of this video with the new chase credit cards
what are the new chase card???? Can you list them the new chase cards for those of who don't about them . thx u
CSP has 3x on dinning not 2x.
Ok if we are being smart, check the date on this video (June 21 2021) now check the date that the 3x on dining was added to the preferred: August 16th 2021 đ€Ż
@@TheCreditShifu no offense intended. Love the content. I am new to the credit card game. [waving white flag]
@@mannymac82 hehe. I just love leaving smart ass replies. Welcome! đ
citi trifecta is a better points earner, but chase just has better travel benefits/protection and travel partners
Get 6 Citi Custom Cashes Via PCs and enjoy 5% on everything
if you are young student chase might make more sens to you but in general for me i personally like Citi must better because chase doesn't cover much about grocery stores compare to other in my experience
avid cardholders have 3 trifectas - Chase, Citi, AMEX
Chase for the intro bonuses.
Chase overall, but citi is a better long term earning setup imo esp after the introduction of the custom cash (except no travel protection etc). Honestly, i had planned to pc one of my rewards+ to double cash after next premier app, but I'm thinking I'll forgo the dc in favor of the cc. With the 10% back from rewards+, that's 5.5 typs per dollar!
Eventually Iâll learn this lingo
Premier is sounding tempting with that grocery and gas 3% when i cant get one of them for 5%. Chase really needs to get it together with their sapphire rewards. I'm sure its quite common for a person to possess the account but never actually use the card
I was all set up with the CSR trifecta. Then they raise their fee and COVID. Iâm changing to a max cash back set up.
Both trifectas has it own benefit. Master card world elite has some benefits and visa signature has it own benefits. Primary insurance when renting on chase. Citi has phone insurance. It will depend I have both. More than 30 cards
Chase hards pulls for credit limit increase meanwhile Citi credit limit increase is a soft pull
Wanted to point out that if you transfer your 1.5% to the preferred. its worth 1.875 Cents per dollar spent. Not really 1.875 points per dollar spent.
Is having a city double cash and citi custom cash(for gas) and Amex gold a good setup? It seems to cover everything
Give me the Chase Trifecta all day over the Citi.
So I just got the Chase Sapphire Preferred card to go with my Chase Freedom Flex and Unlimited cards. I also have the Citi Double Cash and Custom Cash cards. Does it make since to get the Premier? Im asking because they both have several mutual transfer partners.
I havenât seen you mention is Costcoâs citi credit card.
Chase freedom unlimited is now discounted to new applicants. So there now might by a hybrid trifecta for the expensive one
Discounted?
@@MrHakubi I know thatâs confusing đ
Chase wins for the travel partners and travel protections and benefits, but Citi wins on accumulating points. If Citi would improve their travel partners and add travel protections and benefits, it would overtake Chase as the clear winner.
Great comparison
He did my idea from last video đ€©
You the man
I love hyatt too much makes chase an easy choice
Yeah I agree on that, you can get so much value out of Hyatt
You did not talk about the stuff you get with the expensive cards like travel credit etc
Does chase lower their annual fee for the Chase Sapphire Reserve cc for their private clients?
Just taking the dive into this world after getting a custom cash card.. đ€Ż
Did Citi pay you to promote them. I am chase user have all the three cards and love getting all the bonus points.
Did you watch all the way through and hear the conclusion?
How about the Citi Simplicity card?
Nice theory on Citi product change. They won't change Double Cash to Custom Cash. Maybe later? Update: Just called again, never.
Well done here, especially the graphics.
Shifu, I have a friend who has 800+ Credit score and he has both the freedom and freedom unlimited, can he apply for the Amex Plat?
Chase reserve trifecta and both non fee citi cards is a great combo lol
Citi made me wait a year before changing cards.
Does the Citi Custom Cash card allow for 5% cash back at Walmart and/or Target?
No
@@pedro4670 What do I do with that?
It wouldnât count for groceries?
@Creditshifu If your grandfathered in for the old Freedom card are you able to apply for the Freedom Flex?
You can upgrade without applying for a new card. The only catch is if your credit limit is less than 5k, you can only upgrade to chase freedom flex and you would have to apply for chase freedom unlimited. If your credit limit is 5k then you can upgrade to either without any issue and without any credit inquiries. I literally just upgraded 5 minutes ago lol and asked all these questions. Hope this helps.
@@KaleemKhan-pd8sv okay thanks but I was trying to use both as part of the chase trifecta
@@Dnice-lc1uf just apply for one and upgrade to the other. Thatâs what my plan is
ive learned so fking much from this channel in like 2-3 years its ridiculous lol ! im an AMEX Fan boi though ahahaha and capital one
6:47 Most us drug stores serve more as convivence stores, especially in rural or inner city areas in the us. They are kinda like dollar general with pharmacies, an a majority of people have HSA accounts/ insurance or a few different combos. I believe perscriptions are their own catagory to comply with us anti-kickback laws for federal plans, but not sure.
Can family members transfer points with citi?
Thanks great video. Really interesting to see these companies complete. Got to love capitalism. :)
Citi for the win if you want to do some yolo trips
Can you do a Citi Cashback Trifecta with Citi Double Cash + Citi Custom Cash + Citi Rewards+ ?
The Rewards+ gives you 10% points back. Can you transfer points from the other cards to the Rewards+ and get a 10% boost on all three cards?
With Citi you have to call them to merge your Thank You points accounts into one. Then all your points get the benefits of all your cards. So you can transfer your double cash rewards to points and get 10% back on redemptions thanks to the Rewards+
@@mrdisco99 That's what I wanted to know. Thank you.
Still in chase jail đ© (over 5/24 rule) so I canât even look at Chase products or even smell them but the new Citi trifecta might finally remove these handcuffs for me & finally see the world again on my magic carpet.
Weird when I called chase about my chase cc they said they donât have a 5/24 rule.
@@ncmor3678 they don't admit any underwriting rules publicly, but they are as good as confirmed.
Chase trifecta is a travel trifecta for the preferred 3% dining becomes 3.75% dining and 4.5% dining on reserved, also 1.5% cashback from unlimited becomes 2.25% if you have the reserve, need to strongly consider that
So on the cheap trifecta citi has the same percentages while chase becomes:
1.85% non category
6.25% category
1.85% groceries
1.85% gas
3.75% dining
1.85% air travel
1.85% hotels
6.25% travel through portal!
1.85% drugstore
The 2% on everything is really good but it depends on what your highest spending is, if its dining you might be wise to consider it
Edit: and if you know you will travel
That's only if you do all your redemptions through the travel portal. If you transfer to airlines you get better value.
i say get all of them one (chase, citi, amex), get all the points, downgrade if you need to and rinse and repeat. i will say my favorite so far is the amex plat. right now that 10x bonus on gas and groceries is fiyah.
hey Ahmed you perferring to the everyday Blue cash rite not the platuim card ???
@@Anthonyjones-pq4ff after yr 1 the plat is still great if you travel. I have the blue and the gold and they get more use than the plat. I also have the chase sapphire reserve and will be getting a handful of chase cards since I am finally out of chase 5/24 jail.
@@ahmedagbabiaka I feel
You on that getting outta jail .
Iâm in the same boat that 5/24 sucks
Chase wins hands down. And I say this even though I have no Chase cards and have 3 Citi cards (TYP, Costco Visa and as authorized user of Custom Cash).
When you offer a TRAVEL card with NO travel protections, that alone should disqualify you from being a contender for any kind of trifecta or whatever.
Uh-oh! We have a chase fan in here. LOL!
